Hey man, you continue to kill it with your uploads. As a Bears fan that lives in Seattle and follows both teams, I love that you cover both these o lines. The sky is falling in Chicago though, 670 The Score and other Bears youtube coverage is calling for Chris Morgan to be fired, Nate Davis cut, and a lot of questions on Caleb/Flus/Waldron moving forward. From the all-22 and your breakdown, I agree that there is still time to adjust and fix these issues. Caleb actually made some plays to get out of the pressure to make the o line look better but then he throws two picks 😅. I like his escape-ability from that aspect but with time, I'm hoping his decision making improves and his talent shines. I was 100% there with you too, I love Rome but I was hoping we would trade back in the draft and try to get Zach Frazier for a long term future at Center to pair with Caleb. I liked his game vs PSU last year and since then he was on my radar for the Bears and Hawks. I'm interested to see who you like coming out of college this year to be a starting center in the NFL potentially (look into my guy Nick Dawkins at PSU, his dad was "Chocolate Thunder" Darryl Dawkins in the NBA, he's the reason the NBA adopted break-away rims) (Also, I know he snapped/fumbled vs WVU week 1 but that was because WVU's DB double clapped which was PSU's cadence to snap the ball, should have been a penalty on WVU but the refs didn't call it). Thank you! All that said, how much does Ryan Bates improve the O line if you switch him in at Center? Looks, as of right now, like he's eligible to return from IR week 6 vs Jags in London but they have a Bye the next week, I can see him sitting/recovering until week 8 (Oct 27) vs Washingoton edit: accidently said Zak Zinter instead of Frazier but I would not have minded him as a pick either.
Chicago fans have had it. Watching that game is like stepping off the worst rollercoaster ride with the worst hangover and puking all over the place in front of the whole country. No fun. But Houston is a damn good team, which is an even further indictment of our coaching staff and front office. When Lovie Smith gifted us the first pick in the draft a couple years ago, both teams were in a similar trajectory. Houston took off like a rocket with CJ Stroud. The question is this: does Chicago reach inertia and crash and burn with this strategy or do they track the route the Texans are on? I must believe we are on the right track.
Don't Forget the center getting absolutely pancaked in the Red Zone against Tennessee. That play probably costed the Bears a TD. Caleb had the ball deflected and was clearly throwing it to a wide open K. Allen in the end zone. I personally can't recall seeing a Center get run over in that way by a defender.
I expect Poles to focus on the O-line in next year's draft. The Defense is great. The Offensive skill positions are good. The O-line is the only real problem now. Even there, the Bears have some good starters. The Center is the biggest problem.
and we need a legit 3 down RB and let swift be a 3rd down back. i'd love to go 3tech in R1, RB in r2, Center in R2 and OG in R3. Sign a slot WR if keenan leaves/cant stay healthy.
Caleb is going to have the same problems Fields did. Difference is Fields learned to throw on the run and had good connection with Moore last season . Caleb does not have as much Escapability, he is getting hit to much
Scheme and coaching, our center last year Lucas Patrick was just named the highest graded offensive linemen from week 2. The bears refuse to get with the times and have an offensive minded head coach who can fix talent issues with scheme. There’s a reason Matt lafluer has run laps around us for years, he’s a top 5 play caller and offensive schemer in the nfl. That’s why they had the youngest team in the nfl last year, and dominated in the second half once love learned the system
It is kinda hard to get excited when you know your rookie QB will be on IR by week 5 if he takes another game or two beating like this one. All the TB fans are gonna get their wish and will watch their QB get murdered too by the lack of o line protection.
Just like with Justin Fields, Caleb Williams has to be perfect in order to win games due to the offensive line and coaching. Every QB in the NFL misses passes missing a throw means nothing but since he has to be perfect and make every throw, it means everything with Chicago Bears SMH.
Just like fields, prophetic words. It takes a once in a generation talent like mahomes to succeed rookie year, and that's with an otherwise solid team. Williams is no Mahomes. Like fields, should be given a year or two to sit and get up to speed. Like your neighbors to the north...
@@tylerlee9422 Montgomery was basically always good at making the first tackler miss, wherever he ran into him on the field. Like really, really good at making the first guy miss. He would fairly often turn what should have been a three yard loss into a two yard gain. Go ask any real Lions fan and they tell you, Montgomery very rarely gets brought down by the first guy. Even behind the line of scrimmage. I figure he'd be able to squeeze a little extra yardage out of some of those runs and Bears get better down and distance options.
For 1 he is a top 5 blocking back in the league. We now have 2 guys that don't block at rb. Monty has only been awsome since he left even with Gibbs taking touches.
@@chrissparks6380 The only thing he doesn't have is top end speed. Literally that's it. Everything else in a RB "skill set" he is either good, or great at. I wish QB would throw him more passes. I've been a Bears fan for over 30 years now and Montgomery was easily the best player they let go in that time span. I mean unless someone else is slipping my mind, letting Montgomery go was their biggest loss since I've been a fan.

People before the season: Caleb is coming into the best situation for a number 1 overall pick ever. People after two games: man this guy has no chance.
Can we agree that fields wasn’t the issue maybe it’s a bunch of other things that they are going to blame one guy for. Give it a couple years and Caleb will be in the same spot
The fact that there are so many basic mistakes points to the coaching staff not preparing the mental side of the Bears players and the locker room not doing the same. Do the Bears players prepare themselves mentally? The results speak volumes.
Should've drafted a center after Caleb's pick! Or traded down for draft collateral and maybe it would've shook up the draft board and Penix Jr. Might've fallen farther than 9? And we still have draft capital for offensive linemen! That center is by far the lamest the Bears had since the 60's! The center in the QB of the O Line!
It's funny because in all my mock drafts I had the Bears drafting a center with most of the time it being Jackson Powers Johnson. And now after not even addressing the position we're in this mess.
I actually want to see what is going on in the run blocking scheme, that's more troubling than the pass game. A rookie really needs help to stay ahead of the chains and right now the run blocking is so bad we can't get a good 5yd run
I get Caleb taking some responsibility for the Bears play but what about Shane Waldren? Running empty sets when we can't block a single 5 man rush. It's insane! It's not just center either. Our gaurd play hasn't been good either.
The '24 Bears are no threat to run the ball. The '22 and '23 Bears were #1 and #2 in the NFL in rushing yards. Defenses had to account for Fields, their RBs and the physical mentality they had. Defenses don't fear this Bears running game whatsoever so they can attack the Line on their way to Caleb. If they don't establish a running game soon this season will be lost quickly and another QB will be damaged goods before he can develop.
@@Rico-uv5ew Last year's line was B. Jones, T. Jenkins, Whitehair/Patrick, Davis/Whitehair and Wright. They nearly led the NFL in rushing yards. It's 4/5 the same group that you say doesn't exist now. Something changed.
No QB in football will be a great pocket passer if they don’t have a O-Line to protect him and give him time to make the throws. Caleb has some learning to do but, when he’s having to make the throw as fast as possible in order to avoid the collapse pocket mistakes are bound to happen and lack of timing. Also the play calling has not been good, it’s just screen passes or short 5 yard passes, I understand also that when your o-line isn’t performing well you have to run plays that get the ball out quick to avoid the sacks. They will need to improve the O-line or Caleb is gonna get demolished during the season, defenses are gonna blitz every time seeing this.
Another thing I noticed was the how the bears would either lose a yard or gain nothing on 1st down. When Chicago continued to fail on first down it makes it harder to convert 2nd or 3rd and long. If the 1st down goes for 3, then 2nd goes for 2, it makes it easier to convert a 3rd and 5 compared to 3rd and 9-12 which happened way too often.
As a Bears fan for about 40 years now it’s just hard to watch. We are just so starved for great Qb play. I hope Caleb can get this turned around and develop into a good player.
Irony here is we may need velus to take pressure off this O-line, he can just literally run around the defense even if they all get beat it wont matter with his speed, he's either gonna shoot the gap or get to the edge most times.
Offensive line needs to play together during OTAs, training camp and preseason. Our offensive linemen (Nate Davis and Teven Jenkins) are on the sidelines stretching and taking care of their injuries. The Center spot, most important to call protections esp for stunts, was up for grab between Shelton and Bates with Bates being out due to injury. Overall, tackles played well (not easy to defend Hunter) but our interior needs to hold up and not bull rushed into the QB. Caleb made some mistakes but he was harassed on every play. No expectation for running game unless we had a mauler signed up in FA.
Getting the QB rushed every frickin pass play reflects on GM Poles ! He got Shelton & Bates to plug the Center position. Bates is hurt & Sheldon can't play worth SHEET ! Amazing a former O Lineman can't figure out the most important position on the O Line ! 3 years running & he is clueless as can be ! The number one asset is QB Williams but he treats the Defensive Line like the most important players on the team. Watching the Packers lose Jordan Love & just rush the football down the Colts throats ! The Bears OC Waldron had better get his head out of his lowest orifice ! The O Line coach Chris Morgan gets no passes either. Great to have players with character but I want players with an edge to their game. Same O Line play as with OC Getsy.
@the football scout What is your opinion on the run game coordinator/offensive line coach Chris Morgan? I hear some people saying he is garbage. The Bears obviously think highly of him because he is the only offensive coach that they kept from last year and put under Waldren. They even promoted him from offensive line coach to run game coordinator.
I applaud Williams for trying to stay in pocket and a lot of plays he had no avenue to make a break and scramble but if he would take note from fields in way and scramble more it will help keep defenders honest and in turn give more open targets for receivers. He doesn’t even have time to go through progressions to decide to run or not so I get it
the thing about this line, the texan rush 5 more often then they usually do. that means there were very few double teams. guys needed to win at the line one on one. cause the interior was getting destroyed caleb could not step up his throws and make those passes that kills blitz. When the texan rush just 4, Caleb passing look great. I think he started with like 9 for 11 at the beginning till the blitz started to wear the line down. This is now on tape and teams that the bears play in the future are more likely to blitz till the bears discover how to make them honest. it does not help that they have no running game. with a weak center perhaps they should go for a max protection and try some roll out plays bootlegs and so froth with a tight end to chip a the line and sending just two receivers out.
Houstons Oline was the most injured in the whole NFL last year and this year the first game was the first time they all played together, they didn't even all play together in the pre-season this year. Against the Bears the Texans were missing their starting center. Also the Texans were missing Christian Harris and Deneco Autry on defense, it could have been worse for the Bears offense had they been playing.
As a Texans fan, it felt like in the first half the game wasn't as close as the score indicated. I was very surprised with coach Ryans went for a field goal on 4th and inches after Diggs laid his body out and they lost the time out. Score a touch down on the following series of downs and the score would have reflected more what the game felt like. Give the Bears credit. They hung around and hung around - and the Texans let them with all the inopportune penalties and untimely fumble. That said, a game which should have never been within reach was - and Williams will learn from each start and get better. C.J. really is unique, and you could see that even after his second start last year. As you said, that's not the norm, but we could see it and when he pulled a win out of his A$* in Tampa Bay, he began to cement the feeling that anything was possible. If I was a Bear's fan, I would feel a bit encouraged with the improvements. Your defence and secondary kept the Texans from getting a lot more points. We will see how good both the Texans and Minnesota are this coming week.
I remember the video you pulled out on Darnell right versus Anderson. In college and Darnell actually played pretty well. Now they’re both in the pros and Darnell look like trash against him.
if a Qb is pressured before the first receiver on the route tree does not even make his initial move.. obviously, the second read is not on the table.. only option is the checkoff to a RB.. but if that RB is in pass pro cuz the O line is an open gate.. no QB can live in that space.
Caleb still missed wide open targets. He did this in preseason and in both games. No matter how good or bad the line is, there were no excuses to miss easy throws. That is the main reason I turned on Fields. Missing open recievers is a big problem.
It's the same thing every year in Chicago. We fix things but never fix the "O" line. Brady, Mahomes, whoever would look pretty mediocre behind that line. If I'm the Bears opponent I blitz a lot.
Still excited for the bears. I think that Caleb still played way better than week 1, obviously 2 turnovers not good but it’s his 2nd week starting. If you are a bears fan and expected Super Bowl champions year 1 you gotta slow the role a little. Let the guy develop, and hopefully the line can improve. These guys can be studs. The center is the weakest position on the line for sure. Wright, Jenkins, jones, and Davis are studs. Also, Texans defense is a super solid pass rush and good secondary. The fact that we are able to keep the game close isn’t bad. I’m still very optimistic.
Chicago should know to use 12 personal all game Double TE, because they are weak at WR. That would have gave them a huge advantage. But again Shane Waldron didn't use his big tight ends again.
it's very simple looking at alot of these pressures on caleb, the offensive personnel were outmatched by the defensive one. On many of these plays, the defense brings 5 guys on a blitz, with the bears only extra man being travis homer... no TE, no double TE sets, no full back, nothing but travis homer... Who lets 5 o lineman in the NFL try and block 5 rushers without running a screen or a quick pass? 0 threat of the run also allows for the d lineman to get penetration. I mean we can call out people by name who didn't do their job on sunday, missed assignments, got physically manhandled, all of which happen in the NFL on a weekly basis to GOOD players on GOOD TEAMS. What needs to change is the gameplan, not to your players strengths, but to their weaknesses.
The fact that the Caleb Williams has 5-6 guys coming on him every play. Just coming right on his face, coming from everywhere. Bears gotta figure it out
I ll start in the middle.... Zach Frazier over Brisker (2nd).... possibly culda changed the entire offensive line if drafted. They also coulda picked up a LG last season.talking about 3rd n 4th round guys here.😊 Poles fixes have slightly improved but have failed on the O Line.😊
Thing is Caleb won't be able to develop if his oline keeps blocking the way they did vs Houston. And Ryan Bates was brought in to be the center instead of Turnstile Shelton but was out due to injury this game. Add to that the fact that they use Bates in place of Nate Davis for all the times Davis is not available and yep, the Center position remains a trash fire. The Bears really should have hired Pep Hamilton as OC instead of Waldron
Williams is seriously slippery and has great balance in the pocket. He could have easily been sacked 10+ times. I think he'll be fine in due time. His accuracy issues may be tied to his awful protection. Clean that up and I bet it improves too.
You can see the receiver routes are all 15-20 years downfield in a lot of these plays Slow the blitz by getting the ball Out quick on short slant routes Get the run game going on the perimeter Do so more pa roll outs OC is not calling the right plays given our weaknesses
5:40 i can’t agree with you here. by the time caleb realizes the first option isn’t there he’s already got will anderson in his lap there’s no time for him to get to #2
It’s one thing to just get your ass bull rushed into the qb like shelton, but to basically just completely whiff and hardly even touch the edge rusher is inexcusable. That can’t happen. Too many times jones and wright hardly get a hand on their guy
I got told off by almost every bears fan during draft time cuz i told them they were fools this draft. I told them to trade that #08/09 pick(forgot which one it was) so they could gain capital to use on LINEMEN! U DONT DRAFT A FRANCHISE QB WITHOUT HAVING A LINE!
They need to run the ball more often. It's the best way to develop Williams. Even if you have to punt, running the ball is the best way to minimize mistakes. Time of possession is important when you have a defense as good as this one.
Sacks are for the most part a QB stat. The ball MUST come out on time something CW has never been good at. It always will appear on tape that you have oline problems when you have a QB thats not good at football.

Looks, as of right now, like he's eligible to return from IR week 6 vs Jags in London but they have a Bye the next week, I can see him sitting/recovering until week 8 (Oct 27) vs Washingoton
edit: accidently said Zak Zinter instead of Frazier but I would not have minded him as a pick either.
We could probably go to McDonald’s and find 5 guys who could block better then the entire bears o line 😢
😂😂
Will you be suiting up next week?
Or maybe the Texans defense was just that good
@@9190onin 🤣🤣
Or not
Chicago fans have had it.
Thank you for this, man. Makes learning the game easier.
I have zero worries about Caleb Williams..I have MASSIVE worries about this O line ..and I’m afraid they will get that kid killed
Dude excellent commentary! Especially on that Danielle Hunter move that led to the interception, that dude is nasty and he beat Wright bad a few times
Yikes that Danielle Hunter move was so nasty, spin cycle on my boy Wright.
I expect Poles to focus on the O-line in next year's draft.
The Defense is great.
The Offensive skill positions are good.
The O-line is the only real problem now.
Even there, the Bears have some good starters.
The Center is the biggest problem.
that and they cant establish a run game seemingly yet
@@jonniefn6240it's obviously because of the line....
@@austinmartinez2312 that's facts
and we need a legit 3 down RB and let swift be a 3rd down back. i'd love to go 3tech in R1, RB in r2, Center in R2 and OG in R3.
Sign a slot WR if keenan leaves/cant stay healthy.
He shoulda focused on it this past draft
Caleb is going to have the same problems Fields did. Difference is Fields learned to throw on the run and had good connection with Moore last season . Caleb does not have as much Escapability, he is getting hit to much
I thought our center last year was bad… how do they go backwards in terms of talent at that position?!?!?
Scheme and coaching, our center last year Lucas Patrick was just named the highest graded offensive linemen from week 2. The bears refuse to get with the times and have an offensive minded head coach who can fix talent issues with scheme. There’s a reason Matt lafluer has run laps around us for years, he’s a top 5 play caller and offensive schemer in the nfl. That’s why they had the youngest team in the nfl last year, and dominated in the second half once love learned the system
I'm a Vikings fan and I remember when Poles signed with the Bears, I was a little upset because I wanted him here, I thought he was a good O-line guy.
Such a true statement
Just like fields, prophetic words. It takes a once in a generation talent like mahomes to succeed rookie year, and that's with an otherwise solid team. Williams is no Mahomes. Like fields, should be given a year or two to sit and get up to speed. Like your neighbors to the north...
Man what I wouldn't do to have an Olin Kruetz back anchoring the middle of our O-line
They should have never let Montgomery go.
What is Montgomery gonna be able to when he is getting hit in the backfield.
Why make Montgomery beat tacklers in the box when he can be getting the ball in his hands outside of it?
I've been a Bears fan for over 30 years now and Montgomery was easily the best player they let go in that time span. I mean unless someone else is slipping my mind, letting Montgomery go was their biggest loss since I've been a fan.
Sheldon is just like Sam Mustipher, DC are gonna force him into 1v1 with shifts and stunts and he is losing those battles regularly, just like Mustipher and Patrick.. Totally agree Shanes game plan was booboo.. he should have power rushed those speedy edges %65 of the game, he didnt, he let those speed rushers speed rush %80 of the time. make it make sense..
these issues were the same with justin. Tom Brady could not operate under these conditions.
Yes , so true . Atrocious line period
lol you sound krazy Tb12 foo
Awesome details
People before the season: Caleb is coming into the best situation for a number 1 overall pick ever.
People after two games: man this guy has no chance.
Everyone with half a brain knew the O line was the weak spot
Blame the media for that
Bears really don't understand that you NEED to address oline first before even expecting a good QB. Same mistake after same mistake.
@@CorneilusGreenfans were saying that too.
CJ made it look easy last year with his makeshift O line, but CJ’s accuracy made up for some of this.
Great content 👍
Can we agree that fields wasn’t the issue maybe it’s a bunch of other things that they are going to blame one guy for. Give it a couple years and Caleb will be in the same spot
The fact that there are so many basic mistakes points to the coaching staff not preparing the mental side of the Bears players and the locker room not doing the same. Do the Bears players prepare themselves mentally? The results speak volumes.
Good job
your cj/young QB take is sooo on point.
Same issue for the last 5 years. O line is the primary problem. The oc and a rookie and rookie qb don’t help.
Nice breakdown. Good instructional video for pass rushers and how to beat Da Bears
I actually want to see what is going on in the run blocking scheme, that's more troubling than the pass game. A rookie really needs help to stay ahead of the chains and right now the run blocking is so bad we can't get a good 5yd run
DAMN. THAT SPIN MOVE BY HUNTER MADE WRITE DO A DAMN CARTWHEEL
Need an o line to rush the ball. Don't open holes, no success rushing the ball.
@@Rico-uv5ew Last year's line was B. Jones, T. Jenkins, Whitehair/Patrick, Davis/Whitehair and Wright. They nearly led the NFL in rushing yards. It's 4/5 the same group that you say doesn't exist now. Something changed.
Teams gave us the run last year daring fields to throw. They are afraid of Caleb's arm more.
It's been the bears o line my entire life. Let's pick a qb number one,get the deepest receiver Corp, and the worst o line. Yay
The last play Tototo had a crazy read and almost made an insane play. Jimmy ward flew in to clean it up.
They need .a different center badly. Shelton is constantly being beat.
No shit, this has been happening. Mitch, Justin and now Caleb. Figure it out.
Lets win games, Tyson Bagent!
Irony here is we may need velus to take pressure off this O-line, he can just literally run around the defense even if they all get beat it wont matter with his speed, he's either gonna shoot the gap or get to the edge most times.
That sounds absolutely insane because I was thinking the same thing!
Poles was an O lineman. You'd think he'd understand that it ALL starts up front. He should be on the phone making a trade for help.
Poles is an idiot.
As bad as the offense played, the defense still gave us a chance to win it in the end.
Shelton is to high to defend the bull rush. He need to get his foot in the ground and anchor more.
I applaud Williams for trying to stay in pocket and a lot of plays he had no avenue to make a break and scramble but if he would take note from fields in way and scramble more it will help keep defenders honest and in turn give more open targets for receivers. He doesn’t even have time to go through progressions to decide to run or not so I get it
I feel like building an oline should be a teams main priority before pulling the trigger on a QB.
Poles thought he was the smartest person in the room
@@CorneilusGreen Facts and some of these dumb ass bears fan thought he was too. Ah Hah Fields 2-0. Loser ass mindset for the bears
How many years have you had success?
@@Ebonysails look at the lions, chiefs, texans, eagles, bills, packers and cowboys and tell me i’m lying 😂
@@aidencortez5490 No GM in the league agrees with you.
It’s amazing they were even in the Houston game at the end despite how poor they played on O
the thing about this line, the texan rush 5 more often then they usually do. that means there were very few double teams. guys needed to win at the line one on one. cause the interior was getting destroyed caleb could not step up his throws and make those passes that kills blitz.
Williams does not drop back on shotgun snaps
Nate Davis has been a joke since the day he signed with us
I remember the video you pulled out on Darnell right versus Anderson.
1:27 DJ Moore wide open
It doesn’t matter how open he is if your QB constantly running for his life on every play 😂
Good job I just hope we invest in the offense line more
Chicago should know to use 12 personal all game Double TE, because they are weak at WR.
Bears gotta figure it out
When you have a bad offensive line, you need to call more roll out plays towards the right or left and we haven’t seen that.
Darnell Wright little to no effort in trying to keep Danielle Hunter out the backfield
Bring in Caleb's USC blocking buddies-would be an improvement.
Caleb's blocking was bad last season
Hear me out… it might the the o-line coaching since the ex bears o lineman are doing much much better on other teams
Crazy cause getsy was our offensive coordinator last year! 6:42
Backup center Doug Kramer had one of the highest PFF grades in the league this preseason. He should replace Shelton if he struggles this week.
Williams is seriously slippery and has great balance in the pocket. He could have easily been sacked 10+ times. I think he'll be fine in due time. His accuracy issues may be tied to his awful protection. Clean that up and I bet it improves too.
You can see the receiver routes are all 15-20 years downfield in a lot of these plays
Slow the blitz by getting the ball
Out quick on short slant routes
Get the run game going on the perimeter
Do so more pa roll outs
OC is not calling the right plays given our weaknesses
Good grief! Is Shelton wearing roller skates?
Chargers instead, get rid of their weapons and build an offensive line. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
5:40 i can’t agree with you here. by the time caleb realizes the first option isn’t there he’s already got will anderson in his lap there’s no time for him to get to #2
Blitzing results in TDs if you are a smart QB.
It’s one thing to just get your ass bull rushed into the qb like shelton, but to basically just completely whiff and hardly even touch the edge rusher is inexcusable. That can’t happen. Too many times jones and wright hardly get a hand on their guy
Put in Doug Kramer for a series. It couldn't hurt!
Exactly, it’s no way Kramer could be worse than
Jenkins is pretty much the only guy worth keeping. Been pretty damn good from his 2nd year onwards.
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR ENDZONE VIEW FROM?
Coach of the Texans even called out in an interview that they saw a weak link in the center so they attacked it.
Can't run without the O line opening lanes to run through. The O line is the problem.
Sacks are for the most part a QB stat. The ball MUST come out on time something CW has never been good at.
It always will appear on tape that you have oline problems when you have a QB thats not good at football.
The Oline has always been bad. Team didn't blitz Field often last year cause he can break for a big one.
