An endless city, constantly under construction, stifling heat, touching metal will blister your skin, and the cops are corrupt? Dude, you just described Houston, Texas.
I'm glad they included an explanation as to *why* the city and it's layout shift (both manually and magically), cause when I initially heard about it shifting without reason, my first thought was "that seems like an oddly chaotic way for a layer to function in a lawful aligned plane."
5e Virgin Lore: Asmodeus & Tiamut are the only True Deities in hell 2nd & 3rd edition Chad Lore: there's an entire street of newborn lesser dieties on the second level, Sekolah lives under the ice of Stygia, and the Elder Evil that created all Aboleths is just chilling in Minauros.
3:30 I feel it's worth pointing out that 2e, the path to Dis isn't just "near" Tiamat's lair. It's actually *inside* it. Literally a map of Tiamat's Lair from the book Fires of Dis shows that it has a large central room with a good number of chambers branching off if it: one for Tiamat, one for her hoard, one for each of her five mates. But also located at the back of the central room is the giant iron door that lets into Dis. It wasn't just some abishai in the way. You literally have to walk through Tiamat's living room, passing by her and each of her consorts' bedrooms, to get to Dis. And she's the only one who can open the door.
lmao more like my current job 😂... 😭 We've rearranged the damn store front completely 5 times in the past 3 months or so because corporate keeps changing their mind about what's standard...
Oh! So the city wasn’t always owned by Dispaiter. There is a Devil turned Demon (can’t recall the name) who used to rule that layer and was tricked out of ownership by Dispaiter. He then went on to become a Demon and has a layer of the Abyss. I can’t recall his name but it’s something I found a long time ago when looking up lore stuff for a campaign.
If you and your party ever find yourself in Dis, be sure to pick up a couple of big sacks of Dis Nuts. They are the saltiest in the outer planes and considered a delicacy in most places. Not to mention that succubi absolutely love to scarf them down; you never know when Dis Nuts could get you out of a sticky situation!
Just wanna say I’ve been watching for like 10 years now and you’re by far my favorite TH-camr. I’ve seen you grow and change content and I’ve been here for it all. I backed your kickstarter for the module and bought almost all of your books. Fantastic! You’re fantastic. Thanks for making some excellent content and for caring about your community!
There is also a pre-written called Chains of Asmodeus that was release relatively recently on DMs Guild that’s all about going through the layers of hell.
Fun fact, those repentant souls have a chance to be reborn as a tiefling-like creature known as a hellbred. They're a PC race appearing in 3.5e's Fiendish Codex: Tyrants of the Nine Hells.
day 5 of whishing for a video about psionics: how it works exactly? how it differs from magic?Does it affects the Weave whatsoever? and many more questions and enlightment I so seek about a forgotten and apparently filled with many mixed information in the lore that only may almighty MrRhexx elucidate.
Hmm, this Iron Tower reminds me a lot of Franz Kafka's "Das Schloss". A tower that is always in sight, just ahead, but never seems to get closer. Very Kafkaesque.
Hi great video and can't wait to read and hopefully run Sands of Doom. No matter how long it takes, just can't wait. Keep up the amazing work, been watching your vids for a while now
Am i crazy or have you not done a "what they don't tell you" vid on goblins? I get they're pretty well covered but you do the best lore/culture breakdowns on the Tube imo and i'd like to see your take on them, as i'm currently playing a Barbarian/Druid wildman who speaks goblin and want to know how to properly interact with them
@MrRhexx What about the 9 hells lends itself to constantly changing, as mentioned at 8:42? Seems like that would be considered the opposite of lawful. While it's true that one can be lawful in some ways but not others as a character, these locals tend to be physical manifestations of the most extreme interpretations of their represented alignment. For example, Acheron being literal cubes to represent lawfulness.
These changes are probably based on an order that is perfectly logical to devils that literally embody diabolical order, but seems random to a mortal mind.
@daviddaugherty2816 or maybe some kind of meta narrative where the smartest devils create such elaborate nonsensical systems in such a way that they themselves are unaffected? Like "following the winding pathways of the roads is for you, who can't teleport" or "Oh, it says here the consequences for breaking the terms of this contract are being set on fire. Good thing that doesn't hurt me!" 😅
This is partly why he's going to be the effective final boss of my campaign, so few monsters are as blatantly invulnerable in their lair yet "accessible." Party's job isn't to kill an archdevil, it's to escape with an archangel. They _might_ kill Titivilus as he makes a last-ditch attempt to stop the party from actually succeeding and get even more credit with Dispater, but once the correct room is found the boss man is going to fully take advantage of his admin powers and walk straight to it and turn the fight into an escape mission by no-selling every attack thrown at him. Also, like many objectives in the campaign, the party handling things poorly is likely to actually make powerful evil entities more capable of moving against the bolstered forces of good in the epilogue. In this case, without a liar in his ear, there's a fair chance that the good party will accidentally convince Dispater of the truth that Titivilus was the one that so recklessly brought the party into the prison in the first place just for some political maneuvering, enlightening him to the downsides of delegation and making him become more active in politics in following centuries.
I vaguely remember an opposite description - with the entrance to the layer being a giant spiral staircase that coiled around Dispater's tower and down onto the streets, while the tower itself had no doors or windows.
Thanks so very much once more MrRhexx! Excellent vid! I have a query I'm hoping you might find time to address, possibly it's even significant enough to warrant a video? I understand that there is (still) great confusion on where the EVIL Gods live with 5E. I don't know ANYONE (with perhaps the exception of Ed Greenwood of course) on YT, with as much knowledge of the Forgotten Realms (or D&D for that matter), as you retain. Might it be possible for you to provide your understanding, of where the Evil Gods kick their boots off and relax? I know some of the lesser deities inhabit The Nine Hells and I think there's also a few in The Abyss but the Big boys and girls (i.e. Bane, Bhaal, Mask, Cyric, etc) I honestly have no clue anymore. Any assistance you may find time to provide, would be heartily appreciated by me and perhaps by a few other fans here as well? :)
Hey will you ever do pathfinder content? Like explorer lore of the pathfinder world? Maybe on specific creatures. I myself watch this content so I can implement stuff into my Pathfinder world. I'm sure the other way around would be cool for DnD players
So dis is the 2nd layer, yup dis is pretty important it seems. Yes dis is a long drawn out joke, but i don't care because i like it. Anyway dis is probably the most interesting and funny named layer
Wanna just say I bought monster classes… uh… the one with the dragon in it. I’m gonna give it a try in a game I’m playing when the party does some spell jamming. (A Pirate effectively born and raised doesn’t belong in space, at least if you ask him.) so I look forward to giving it a shot!
I love your videos. seen everyone, hit like on everyone. occasionally go through and make sure I didn't miss a like. I would love to see you work with/at larian studios!
I was thinking you missed one of my favorite parts of Dispater/Dis, but I realized that's not current D&D lore, since we're Forgotten Realms based. Though, Dispater has the Chalice of Heironious, which is known to few to be the deva daughter of Heironious, a Greyhawk god.
I just finished Descent into Advernus with my group last night, Zariel broke her sword and my one friend had a wish spell and reforged the sword but since Asmodaus checks every wish spell, I sent him to Nessus to make a deal to take over in her place. Absolute epic ending
Check out my PDF Store here! mrrhexx.store/ Hope you guys enjoyed the video :D
Hey, how have you been? Hopefully, everything is alright at home. Thank you for all the wonderful stories and in-depth lore about the forgotten realms
Sir, please when you get to the 7th level of hell, please add some details on lilith. I'd really like to know her history.
a series on every criminal organization in d&d would do great for your channel

Did you know that the city of Dis, is actually famous for it's fruits, many evil entities love the taste of Dis Pear
Dis is a good joke
Dis the city is famiously known for its agriculture and produce. One of the local favorites is Dis Nutz
Devil fruits eh?
And if you want to get a lower price, you're going to want to find a dis-count.
just make sure to not eat their local grown nuts, not fit for human consumption
new achievment unlocked, make a dis nuts joke to dispater
I feel like its definitely been done lmfao. I wish i could see his reaction.
An endless city, constantly under construction, stifling heat, touching metal will blister your skin, and the cops are corrupt? Dude, you just described Houston, Texas.

The level of lore, imagery and editing in these videos is astonishing. There's nothing like this in TH-cam.
Fun fact, those repentant souls have a chance to be reborn as a tiefling-like creature known as a hellbred. They're a PC race appearing in 3.5e's Fiendish Codex: Tyrants of the Nine Hells.

He took a break from TH-cam when all the OGL shit with WOTC was going on because he didn't know if he was gonna be able to keep doing this.
He went to the 9 hells so he could research for these videos. Very brave of him.

do you intend to talk about hellbred in this miniseries? Their concept is simultaneously intriguing and tragic
