The easiest way to place a design on leather is to lightly mist it with water and then either draw or trace the design with a narrow ball stylus and it will leave an imprint in the leather that you will not see after the paint has dried.

I used to paint my daughter tap shoes for competition . I always deglazed leather so it will last and won’tpeal .
