How to test for Coliform Bacteria

Coliform Bacteria are commonly found in our natural environment and are the most likely source of acute water-borne disease. Globally millions of cases of bacterial illness occur every year, many of them fatal. Even mild cases can result in diarrhea, vomiting, cramps, and other gastrointestinal symptoms. Since contaminated water may not taste or smell "bad", most cases of water-borne disease are impossible to identify without the correct testing tools and methods. The presence of bacteria in drinking water indicates that treatment of the water is required or if the water is being treated that the treatment methods are not adequate to remove all viable microbes. When treatment fails, drinking water may become potentially toxic.

You're here telling us how to do this bacteria test but you ain't telling us the medium in which you're adding water for the test. Thats one of most important information in whole of your video and you're missing it.

Either blue or red agar. It's to help cultivate the bacteria.

This looks like a hydrogen sulfide test which is a simple presence or absence test. Coliform bacteria produces H2S gas which reacts to iron and creates an iron purplish precipitate. So my guess is he is just adding some reactive agent with iron pellets or something. But I agree, his presentation skills could be better.😊

in the instructional video, this described a yellow test result as being positive to Coliform Bacteria. Have purchased a kit and the test kit instructions have yellow as being negative for Coliforms. Which one is correct, the instructional video or the test kit instructions? Thanks
