    The amazing thing about Whitney's upper mix/belts is how her voice is just as resonant as other high mix/belters but doesn't compromise any tonal quality or power...other singers have to add so much head voice to the mix that the notes sound less powerful, lighter, edgier and more nasal! She really was a gift!

    She sounds yhe same wish people would understand her voice sounded so off because 1 she was actually raspy but 2 she sang her songs in lower keys, meaning lower notes, meaning different sound. Her sustained g4 in the 80s sounds exactly rhe same even tone wise in 2004. Her upper range was held back due to loss of breath control. So, no her voicw didnt change but the keys did change which is why in my opinion she sounds so mucb dofferent in later years. Im sure if she sang in the same keys she would produce the same sounds as before. Whitney was capable on upto A4 sustained note in 2010 sometimes Bb4 sustained vibrato too. The voice didnt disapear as whitney said it was all about wanting it and she didnt want it no more.

    • @JonathanGardnerTV
      @JonathanGardnerTV 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      She was a Spinto Soprano up to the mid 90s

    • @tonshaad1230
      @tonshaad1230 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jonny Gardner. A "Spinto" (a pushed lyrical voice in Opera,) is an operatic Soprano, Whitney wasn't trained in Opera so therefore you can not describe her with operatic terminology.
      She wasn't a soprano either simply because Mezzo-Sopranos can go up to high C6s and beyond.
      Example: Cecilia Bartoli who vocalizes up to a F6, she is STILL a mezzo-soprano.
      The timbre of Whitney's voice screams a very lyrical and rich voice -- very dark as seen in her vocal maturation from 1991 to up until she died. The tone was very smooth and thick like molasses. And her vocal range is quite the most normal vocal range of all pop vocalists. She had 3.1 octaves of pure smoky sound but the tessitura of the voice loved the middle of her voice -- which is between C4 to C#5/D5, typical tessitura for a mezzo-soprano.
      Anything she sung after that lost its voluminous quality and thus became thinned out.

    • @JonathanGardnerTV
      @JonathanGardnerTV 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      tonshaad1230 Her tessitura was noticeably higher up until the mid 90s; particularly during the 80s - her vocals on songs like You Give Good Love, You’re Still My Man, Love Will Save the Day, Thinking About You and Hold Up The Light and the way her mixed voice blossomed beyond E5 are evidence of this.
      By My Love is Your Love Whitney was a mezzo but she certainly didn’t debut as one.

    • @tonshaad1230
      @tonshaad1230 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jonny Gardner When she recorded the first album, she was basically a child still recording at the age of 18-20 so of course notes would still be much easier to hit and more accessible due to her youth. That's not an argument to make though because at max, she belted F#5s in the studio recordings (with maybe one G5 from You're still my man).
      The voice eventually matured as early as 1987 when you compare her live performances to her 1985 Arista party performance -- the high notes are still opulent yet are richer than before and are starting to show her control (some strain is noted by criticism in her live performances but nothing to be worried yet in that time period.) By 1990-1992, the voice is naturally lower than her previous two albums at the time and starting to show a natural limit to her abilities. The tessitura from 1987 to 1992 was quite shockingly very restricted from an Eb3 to G5, your typical mezzo-soprano range.

    • @lordvoldemort5725
      @lordvoldemort5725 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tonshaad1230 No, in “I’m Every Woman” she’s hit high F’s and G’s, in “I’m You’re Baby Tonight” I believe she hit a G#5. These are all both while and after her voice has matured. She was a soprano during her first two albums, around the time her Bodyguard Soundtrack and I’m Your Baby Tonight albums came out, her voice was in the process of maturing. This was the time she began to use more effort to reach upper belts above E5’s and F5’s. After these transitions, she eventually became a mezzo soprano and mainly stayed below E5’s. So, I think we can say she was a soprano from 1985-1992 and from 1992-2012, a solid mezzo soprano.
