How I primed my canvas for alcohol ink

  • Hello and welcome! I am a believer that you should use what you have and that's exactly what I did for this painting. I purchased these canvas boards at Dollar Tree ($1.25 each) and thought to prime them with Kilz2 like I usually do, only to find I was out of it. I searched through the multiple cans of paint in my basement and found the semi-gloss interior paint I used on the trim in my home. I imagined it would work well, but wasn't 100% sure. Well, it worked beautifully!!!!
    I hope you enjoy this video, find it helpful and give it a try. Be sure to share it with me on our Facebook group "Vivo Vintage Designs Tutorials." I'd love to see how you do.
    "Super Thanks" is now active on my channel for those of you who would like to show your support with a small donation. All donations will be used to purchase more art supplies so I can keep these FREE tutorials coming your way.

      Hi josette. There are frames that are deeper than regular frames that can be used...almost like a shadow box frame. It can also be mounted on sealed and finished or painted wood, cut larger than the canvas to create a border. Also, there are "tray frames" where the canvas can be dropped in...I'm not exactly sure what they are called. Hope this information helps. Thank you so much for watching.

      Thsnk you. I would try to frame it or mount in on wood.

    This turned out so pretty. I love how just roll with it and let things happen not getting hung up on trying to be precise and letting things happen. Then adjusting as you go along. It’s much more fun that way. When you mix the ink into the smaller bottles what is your ratio of alcohol to ink?

    • @VivoVintageDesigns
      @VivoVintageDesigns  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you 😁. I don't ever measure. If it's too light, I add more ink and too dark, more alcohol. You kind of have to play with it until you find a mix that works for you.

    Very pretty! How would you finish this canvas? What would you seal it with? And would you frame it or what would you do with it? Thanks!!

    • @VivoVintageDesigns
      @VivoVintageDesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Leslie. I would seal it as I would any AI painting...2-3 coats of Kamar Varnish and then the same with Kamar UV Protection. It can be framed since the canvas is not thick, providing you are able to find a shadow box type of frame or it can be mounted on wood which can be stained and cut to the proper size.

      I've only used gesso on canvas for acrylic. I don't know how it would work for ai. Let me know if you try it.

    To finish canvas , do u spray them with finish like u would with paper? Kanar varnish then UV spray then gloss? Thats how i finish my photo paper paintings

    • @VivoVintageDesigns
      @VivoVintageDesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. You should always vanish and uv protect regardless of what you use the inks on.
