I heard this first in the early 90s and saw La India perform this song at Wigstock in NYC in 1995....blew the whole roof off with her vocals and the music !! Everyone was absolutely floored and just danced abandon! Imagine the whole Christopher St. Piers shaking with thousands of dancing happy people. This is what house music does, good house music and India....a perfect combination. One of my all time greats.....
India is the unrecognized Freestyle Queen, call it what you like but NO ONE can compare to this woman...this one deserves the crown the name and everything.. Freestyle Queen is La India..
This song makes the hairs stand up on my back...... quality soulful house...... what an awesome vocalist..... I so wish I could have seen her live....... Best wishes from London, UK.
This is my favorite India song it is so EXOTIC and it just shows how much latinos are in touch with our Afro Caribbean culture yet we don't get credit for it. I love India.
I know that's right!!! She is the Queen of Salsa and Freestyle, forget what you heard! Everybody keeps telling me I'm wrong but thanks girl for reiterating what I already know..no one can touch that voice!
Hanging with DJ's in my high school years and early adulthood was everything back in the 80-90's. This song has always filled my song and brings me to tears each time. Her singing to Yemaya and Ochun, the River and Water Goddesses makes so much sense when you read the history of the two of them. As a woman, we forgot how unbelievably strong we are, we can do anything we set our mind too, and we can have love and happiness if we ask our goddesses to guide us to our calling. XOXO
India is a Santera, she practices Santeria. She's speaking Yoruba an ancient African tongue. Yemaya is the Goddess of Rivers, Ochun is the Goddess of the Ocean. Viva Puerto Rico! Viva la Raza!
A run? Chile... she OUT RAN them decades ago... just unsung for it. La India is the @#$%! She's got pipes that Janet and JLo wish they had. They're awesome performers. India SANGS!!
Just drove my new mini van listening to this song, clubbin in my 20s in nyc I would have never thought I would be a suburban mini van driven mom jamming to 90s house music :)
Just a Brilliant song Sonically, Culturally and Vocally.. The Afro-Latino Traditional Magic meets Club .Ground Breaking to say the least . This song made em run to the dance floor !!
Had the pleasure attending and meeting Louie Vega at the Sofitel Hotel in Beverly Hills last night where he had everyone out on the dance floor. All who attended had a great time and I didn't see not one person stand around and not catch heat to the rhythm's of Louie!
She outclasses both those ladies, vocally. Her only 'downside' was that she liked good music. She wanted to sing overtop a good, genuine, soulful beat. Not this pop fluff that the queens of pop put out.
If I could only find clubs that play old school house like this in Houston, Dallas, or Austin. Man oh man how I miss home (NYC back in the early to mid 90's)
India we need you to reunite with freestyle artists..and do a freestyle show sweetie..that was your first love..and you are remembered for it girl...come on do it for your fans
Well, I think it's silly to compare Janet Jackson to La India. It's just plainly silly. Whilst JLo really has no notable vocal skills, Janet DOES have them, but in mellow soul(pop). For instance, "That's the way love goes" is a masterpiece.---But La India does SALSA, that's a completely different style. So comparing JJ to La India would be like comparing Spagna's vocal skills to say, Alanis Morissette's. You DO have to differentiate between styles, otherwise you'll compare apples to oranges.

Latin Americans and Caribbeans should acknowledge and respect their African roots, not whitewash.

What , what ever happened to her ?
I always thought she could give Janet Jackson and JLO a run for their money.
