Before Odin died he said "my son's" Loki looked at Odin with an inquisitive and surprised look. Knowing Odin was about to die and had no reason to keep up a lie he finally accepted and believed Odin was his father. Thus making the spell permanent and unbreakable. Just like doctor strange telling them good luck unlocking a dead man's spell when they came for the time stone.

According to the Nordic Myth stories... Loki is a shape-shifter. When he is a female humanoid - he is a female. When he changes himself into a mare, he becomes pregnant with Sleipnir. That means that he is an Asgardian most of the time. He quite possible was a "giant" while his spouse was Angurboða. He must have been able to change his own "genetic information" (genes - the A-T and G - C of DNA). As he has spent a lot of time as an Asgardian he is likley more comfortable being one that he is being anything else.

I think it was Loki who did it initially. Then, under the guise of teaching Loki magic, Frigga also made changes on Loki as he grew. Slowly, piece by piece, Frigga turned Loki's shift permanent, to the point that unless Loki was directly touched by Jotun magic, Loki would always automatically be an Aesir.
I also think Loki's own shapeshift to humanoid forms doesn't need upkeep, only the initial burst of magic during a shift. That's why Loki doesn't "shift back" when his magic is bloked: He only needs magic to change, but not in order to stay changed.

I have my own theory, that would also explain why there are so many different looking variants of Loki in the "sacred timeline". I think your second option of it being Loki and him seeing Hela in Odin's mind may be true. After all, he does look similar to her. Additionally, Sylvie, the Loki variant who was on the run most of her life, has two major magics she does, possession and reading a person's memory. Since, no one taught her, reading memories could have been innate.
In addition to that, in actual Norse mythology, Loki was known for his shape changing ability. Not illussion, but shape changing ability. So is it possible that Loki shape changed his form to fit more closely to that of his new family. And that form became how he saw himself, thus it became permanent. Only extreme cold or frost giant relics could cause that form to break, either to keep himself alive or because it was his mind trying to reveal the truth. It would explain why there was an alligator Loki, if that is how he saw himself, he would remain an alligator., even without magic as that is the form he took. I don't think it would take magic to retain a form, especially if Loki believed that was his natural form.

Now that we know Loki is the center of Yggdrasil, it's also possible the version hosting the multiverse together is the one making that change to him the entire time. The war between Asgard and Jotenheim was all about Loki. Nothing else. I know for a fact that Odin was aware of Loki’s status of God of Stories…Laufey finds out and the war over the child who will become the Master of the Multiverse begins. It’s a miniature version of the Kang multiversal war. Odin visits Yggdrasil and finds his son Loki, the God of Stories. Loki tells Odin his story. Odin knows to preserve 616’s timeline, Loki MUST be Asgardian. The war starts and Odin takes baby Loki, makes him Asgardian and when Odin dies, he says “my sons”. Loki realizes he is truly Odinson and his path is set to become the being at the end of time that Odin meets and acquires knowledge and wisdom from, preserving the loop and ensuring the safety of the timeline. Odin’s past, Loki’s future… every variant of Loki 616 and possibly every variant of Loki ever, besides nexus being such as Sylvie, are made permanently Asgardian, enabling them to master time slipping and eventually overthrow He Who Remains and become the being who creates the tree of life. The loop is complete and the safety of Earth-616 is cemented, for all time, always.

I think it was love, some say: the most powerful magic of all. Odin loved Loki from the first momen and Loki felt it and which caused him to love Odin back so he matched his apparance to look like Odin. So he became Asgardian by love ans choise. Despite their difficult relationship later, Loki's love for Odin (and Thor and Friga) was never doubtfull for me. That's why he never lost his apparance as Asgardian: it wasn't litteral magic at all but Loki's love for his family and his own choise.

Or....did Odin try and create peace with the Frost Giants by brokering a marriage between Hella and one of the Frost Giants. Hella then had a baby that was half Asgardian and half Frost Giant and that baby was Loki. Odin then had to take back the child from the Frost Giants and bring him back to Asgard. I dont know how likely this is but its a neat idea that Odin would take Hellas child on as his own after banishing her and thats why Loki has black hair while Thor does not.

Grew the Multiverse, dealt with the Mortals warring across the branches and chose one of the Kangs to protect a single 'seed' until his own rearrival to take back the throne. What if He Who Remains had this all explained to him from the Loki before him? What if there will always be a Loki then Kang and then back to Loki again? I think it's cyclical in this manner.

I think it is Loki's own natural shapeshifting ability: He was a baby in distress, and *instinctively* shapeshifted to the same species as the person (Odin) who picked him up (like a baby cries instinctively, in order to receive help). The shapeshift itself needs magic while turning, but once shifted, Loki's body doesn't need magic to maintain the shift. When Loki gets touched by a Jotun or an artefact, his magic responds by starting to shift him back as a protection mechanism...
At most, I think Odin might've locked Loki's ability so that he can't naturally and willingly return to his original form casually while a child. That way, Loki forgets what he was originally, and never knows he can "shift back".
Since magic is only needed in the initial shapeshift, Loki would look like Aesir, even in situations where he can't access his magic.

Like a human premature baby: They are sometimes born ridiculously small, but if they survive, the human baby will catch up with their peers and be the same size as any other human.

How about another mini-theory. Hela was supposedly trapped ages ago--considering its literal gods we are dealing with, it could legitimately be a nearly infinite time period ago. Maybe 'when he trapped her' it was in a rush or when he was less skilled in whatever powers he was using, so he couldn't do some of the "extra features" he could do much more recently in the timeline. Those extra features he was much more capable of employing when dealing with a near-newborn baby that had plenty of time in a peaceful situation. It might also be that once Hela was imprisoned, any possible "changes" that he might 'want' to be made to the imprisonment might result in either needing to cancel out the imprisonment first, or might represent a moment of weakness that she might be able to break from---or at the least, represented enough of a threat to do so that he wouldn't dare take the chance, just in case it might actually happen.

Baby Loki was found by Odin on a sacrificial alter because he was too small to be a frost giant and was about to be deleted. The reason Loki didn't have frost powers without that frost box was because he didn't grow up on Jotunheim and wasn't subjected to evolving on an ice planet. Also, when Oden touched his face, he transferred some of the Oden Force to him, making him a true Asgardian and his son at the same time. It was all very simple to understand and explained very straightforwardly. There isn't any mystery about it.

Odin knows to do this after visiting Yggdrasill. He meets his adult future son, The God of Stories, Loki. Loki tells his story to Odin and then Odin takes this information and enforces it when he finds Loki on Jotenheim. He takes Loki and makes him Asgardian, ensuring thousands of years of life. The necessity that allows Loki to eventually master time slipping, change He Who Remains’ equation, create the tree of life and complete the loop of what has already happened for Odin. Odin would have been made aware of the Sacred Timeline through Loki’s story of his life. Completing the loop and ensuring the safety of all of their timelines.

Another theory is that the spell that Odin or Fregga, whoever cast it, was so strong that it acted like a mould that shaped Loki as he grew into it.
Eventually Loki grew into that form as an individual, imbibing those characteristics into his innate identity, irrespective of his genetic.
Since the spell that moulded Loki’s form/ appearance was inspired by Hel, Odin’s first child, there are many similarities to the two.

Everyone forgets about Loki's bio mom. Loki could be biracial / a hybrid of Frost giant and Asgardian allowing him to alternate his phenotypes based on environment and/or his subconscious. At the very least it's a theory that shouldn't be left out.
    .
For all we know Laufey could've had a liason with some Asgardian woman that made Loki. He was called a "runt" and it was never explained why he was so small especially considering he was a child of the big and powerful king Laufey.
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
Everything after this is a pointless rant expanding on a couple ideas. By this point though you get the gist and skip all the rest unless you're just bored and wanna read some crazy rants of comic book theories lol.
    .
    .
    .
I could sooooo write a fan fic where Laufey falls for an Asgardian woman and has Loki. But since their worlds hadn't ended the war yet they had to keep it DL. After the war ends a few months later a frost giant finds out and tries to kill unborn Loki and his mom for some misguided notions about the purity of the royal bloodline. They manage to fatally would her but she doesn't die until after birthing Loki. Laufey slays the other frost giant ( thus ridding the world...er worlds... of only other person to know of Loki's secret origin). As the mom dies she begs Laufey to hide Loki's mixed heritage so he won't be plotted against again by the other frost giants.
    .
But after she dies, Laufey takes one look and knows a newborn that small will raise questions and birth rumors and will be abused and ostracized at best no matter what he does. So when he senses Odin approaching He's struck with the inspiration to leave Loki in the path of the recently peace loving Odin believing that the child would fair better as an Asgardian half breed as opposed to the guaranteed hell he'd face as a frost giant halfbreed.
    .
Yes i know there was versions of Loki that got along just fine with his fellow Frost giants but Laufey would be far from the first parent to underestimate their societies ability to accept their biracial kid.
    .
Or maybe Luafey wasn't all Tsundere fatherly love about it and Loki was the unwanted result of a causal rendezvous or even non consensual rape if you wanna go dark with it - (gods are known to do that especially those Greco-Roman ones. I swear the Pantheon of Mt. Olympus can double as a sex offender registry).
    .
Either way the mother dies in childbirth and he ends up with a runt of a kid that he couldn't quite bring himself to kill with his own hands or even order to be killed so he just leaves him to the mercy of the wild where Odin finds him and the rest is Norse history. I
    .
To the one bored person that read this rant, 1 - I'm sorry lol and 2, my point is simply since we don't know who his mum is, Loki being Asgardian AND Frost Giant shouldn't be ruled out.

Loki himself. I wish they didn't choose to make Loki a full sized frost giant in that What If because in the comic he was described as a runt. I always interpreted his skin color change as an instinctive use of his own innate magic, but one could say that innateness allowed him to limit his size growth because of the belief he was an Asgardian. Learning from the other Loki's, it would seem they all have innate magic. The best example is Sylvie teaching herself charm magic. Also, different Loki's specialized. Old Man Loki, for lake of a better description, was the ultimate illusionist. Where as 616 Loki seemed a generalist.

We know little of the frost giant's magical abilities but he was raised as a 'god' by the Asguardian royal family. 🙂

I would like to believe that we have the power to create our own reality in terms of who we are as an individual entity. We send our lives shaping ourselves into who we want to be/become like by the choices we make. Loki’s appearance might be a reflection of his aspirations, which are similar to but not the same as those of Hel, his adoptive sister. Therefore there is a lot of similarities between the two characters appearances. Now these similarities are meant to be more in terms of their minds, spirit, soul etc. or whatever you believe is our inner most identity. But since this is such a sublime concept, the best way for marvel to depict it was through their literal appearance. We don’t spend enough time with Hel to understand her inner monologue and therefore can’t draw similarities between Loki and Hel on a more subconscious level. But one look at them and it becomes evident that they have something in common. The intention is not the green color in their costumes but the jealousy and anger that it represents in them.
After all people with similar experiences/ desires often have similar preferences in other aspects of life as well.
Since Lokis appears as an Asgardian is an innate part of this identity as an individual irrespective of his heritage, it did not disappear when he entered the TVA or even when he died.
Throw in a little magic and some alien genetic to justify the best way to represent a complex thought visually. After all a single picture can communicate thousand words.

Loki‘s appearance is from his future future not his past. When he becomes the god of stories by sitting on the throne of the Multiverse, he is able to control the flow of time both forwards and backwards. So therefore, even though Oden may have thought that he, cast the spell on Loki and Frigga may have thought that she reinforced the spell that Oden thought he cast really it was God of stories Loki, who retroactively altered his own appearance when Oden found him on the battlefield when he was a baby.

I think the spell he casted was there so long it never vanished. Think about how long the Asgardians live. The spell he casted lasted from Lokis child hood to his God hood before he realized his true origins. The spell became embedded eventually. He could turn frost giant but not the giant version. More of a smaller version without the ice power.

  • @chiyannadanielle5849
    @chiyannadanielle5849 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

I think it's Loki's own subconscious magic. As a baby he cast it, shape-shifting to be an Asgardian as Odin held him with love. And growing up in their society he continued to have this form, never truly coming out of it, (even when holding the Casket of Winters he still remained small). Because even when he learned the truth, he still thought of himself as Asgardian, which is why he sought to kill the rest of the Frost Giants. Since it was a shape-shifting spell, it would take magic to come out of it and shift to something else, but takes none for it to remain. It is his chosen form, and it will remain as long as he wants it to. Perhaps always.

My personal reason why boy ain't blue, is why Odin looks the same hundreds of years later and Thor didn't stay dadbod. Also possibly Sylvie. Once you achieve godhood you obtain the power to influence your shape. They look like how they imagine themselves. By the time magic is turned back on in the TVA, Loki more accurately identifies with his asgard side than his frost giant. And I can pinpoint where in season one that change happened.

So... Loki has been known in the comics (and mythology) to use a polymorph spell, that he can change himself (and others) into others things. We have Sylvie (female Loki) who changed into a female at some point in her life. In season 1, we have alligator Loki (and frog Thor), not to mention Loki of other races. A Polymorph spell is not something that a simple "Cancel Magic" can remove. It is a spell that changes what something is on a physical level.

Even in the MCU, he was able to switch in and out of faces with ease. One possibility for why he did not change is because it is new magic that the TVA is immune to and not old magic. "

magic is finicky, is not always about how powerful the caster is. Friga was an expert practictioner, probably with the knowledge that strange even has about spells which is that the conditions of the spells and the layers placed upon them, the conditions to meet and the freedom in such. Im betting frigas spell was more of an enchantment fueled by lokis own powers. May he take the form he so desires under how he feels. (similar to hammer situation but on a person, not object. loki wholy sees himself as asgardian so he is asgardian whereas in whatif he does not so he is not, but other variations of him are either still under the guise or have accepted they are asgardian over frost giant.(loki series)

I think Loki shape-shifted to match Odin's appearance as an Asgardian. If Loki and Sylvie needed to keep expending magic to not look Jotun, then they would have both reverted as soon as they entered the TVA. Since that didn't happen, they probably only need magic to activate the transformation, but not to sustain it.

Seeing all Odin loved and how he loved and how Loki was like hella but cold be saved.
Odin looking at Loki realizing FINALLY that war wasn't the way it left children alone and afraid turned into tools or cast out. Odin learned of love and together they formed the bridge that was later cemented with his mother and his brother..
Jotens are natural shapeshifters that paired with the Oidin force amplified Lokis natural empathy to make him transform rather than shapeshift.
It was this very moment and act that made Odin give up his wars. He was slaughtering people who could he just like him be as sweet and innocent as the baby he now held.
