I'm not sponsored by DeNA, but I've really enjoyed the game so far too. The character animations and backgrounds look bright and clean, the battles are fun and require some thought as you progress (sure you can auto when you're a higher level, but you can punch up with the right strategy) and the monetisation isn't invasive. A good start I'd say, looking forward to more Sync Pairs (praying for Ethan and Typhlosion!)
How weaknesses work and how every Pokemon has very limited moves are very similar to the TCG, which is absolutely fine as the TCG has been around for ages and is still one of the biggest parts of Pokemon.
They made Rosa, Acerola and Olivia top tier while Sygna Suit Brock is only a 3 star despite having a tyranitar They are really trying to make the waifus extra strong
I do appreciate the fact that they include some characters that haven't seen much character development due to little to no involvement in the main games or the anime.
Your name does not hide your love for the character. I would guess that there isn't one unfortunately, since these are individually named trainers instead of trainer... classes?
It probably varies, but I think they're focus on the trainers that were named and not NPCs so I wouldn't get your hopes on Hex Maniac until any news are given
So advantages of this game. Lots of Waifus that you loved from previous games, and New Waifus as well. Plus you get to play a more convenient and simplified version of Pokemon Battles. For catching Pokemon and completing the Dex, Pokemon Go. For the battles, Pokemon Masters. Both games separately do almost half of what the main line games do. And that's pretty good when you remember that both are free.
it does feel like these free games are excuses to not put the time in to make a complete mobile pokemon game with all the features. thats kinda what happened with nintendo switch online. its cheaper to excuse them from putting effort into it.
InvertedReaper i hate to say this all the time but, there are gacha games that doesn’t just ripped your money off unwillingly. There are gacha games that solely making money from skins and accecories, people get those with 100% certainty if they want too.
a gacha that doesn't breed gamblers via soul-crushing RNG, stamina mechanics, hard missions, etc.? what a fun day. I'd pick pay-to-waifu/husbando over pay-to-win any day.
Pokémon “fans”: I’m tired of friendly/buddy rivals! Pokémon company: okay then we will make him a jerk then Pokémon “fans”: I don’t like this jerk rivals Pokémon company: .....we can’t win
Captain Nwalps And nobody's asking for a rival whose ONLY character trait is being a jerk, we want an interesting rival with an actual personality, and at the same time one that's competitive (not necessarily a jerk, more just arrogant)
All the "expanded lore" is pretty interesting, and some interactions between characters that otherwise were impossible (like between Acerola and Alister in the Halloween event)
He explicitly stated you earn enough gems that you don’t need to pay to win and through playing it so far he’s 100% right Doesn’t seem like a con at all
Nightshade I D I O T ! It isn’t pay to win if you don’t need to use the gacha to progress, and even then, he said you get plenty of the currency required to roll F O R F R E E !
@Nightshade "Hey, I know what you're thinking, so I directly addressed the issue you're worried about -- it's not here. You _can_ pay extra to do more, but the game progresses in a way that makes it optional, not required." "I'd call this a pretty big con to gloss over. Seems like anyone's ethics can be bought." Or, just maybe, anyone's reaction can be biased. You've certainly proven that to be true.
Here's something fun to think about. Over 8 generations, there's 1-2 main characters, 1-3 rivals, 8 gym leaders(or equivalent), and 4 elite 4 members. This means generally 14-16 new important named trainers per game. This puts us at riiight around 150 characters at gen 8. A similar number to when we were first just catching pokemon, hmm? Gotta Catch Em' All.

Maybe it's too soon to know how it really works. I'll take another look at the game a few weeks from now. Just looking at the game, it looks cute. That's for sure. EDIT: "The worst thing that can happen is that you don't like it for some reason and uninstall it". Nope, the worst thing that can happen is that the game becomes a chore after a few weeks and you start playing as a must without realising. Then you start spending money, in very small amounts, and when you awake a few months later you have spent four hundred dollars in a shitty game that has so much more content every day that despite your efforts, you can't keep the rythm of the increasing difficulty. Because there will be stronger trainers to keep the money flowing, stronger and stronger as time passes. And the enemies will have to be stronger to give more reasons to get the last new trainer. That's what happens in most games, for example, in Fire Emblem Heroes. In exchange for a shitty game you give part of your soul.
DJ yasi kids will be the main player base, and while it’s the parent(s)/guardian(s) fault for allowing the kid access to their digital wallet, the urge to spend is going to be much too tempting for the younger players. I wouldn't recommend any of these games to any child or even adult person. But whatever, we live in this world, that battle is already lost.
It's a bit frustrating that the game even splits bought premium currency and free premium currency. At first I thought "Cool, you're actually getting a lot of premium currency just for playing the game!", but when I went to buy trainers, the option for 100 gems that you can do daily is tied to only bought gems. To be fair, I have bought the 3200 pack to get a 10-pack of trainers and I was lucky enough to get Brandon - the trainer I wanted the most - right out of it. Though those 3200 gems were still 23€ (~26$). It was almost like I bought a full game.
Rumors are that GF knew this was coming and created town to fall back on. The animations in this game Reeaallllly make GF seem outdated. When sword and shield drop there will be fan backlash. Must support games like these that don’t have crazy paywalls like most games on my phone. All games are free* but realistically we all experienced paywalls. This game is fun that adjust to your time capacity. I have not reviewed a game this high that isn’t p2w. At first this game threw me off, wasn’t a fan of not moving around. But It was the battling system that ended up winning me over. To make it more interesting speed up the timing and you’ll see. Again, I’m rating this as a true f2p game, which is basically unheard of.
Great video! I'm sick today so I've spent the day on my couch watching TH-cam and playing Pokémon Masters. So far I agree with you completely, it's a gatcha game but a good one. It's fun and worth downloading for sure.
okay so first, I love it that they didn't include some sort energy or stamina you need to recharge to play the game. Just love it But the Gacha is just so duckin expensive, like a 10x roll (which are obviously the rolls you wanna do) costs you 3000 gems and you can buy 3200 gems for 32€. Just why do they need to make those games so expensive? if those rolls cost me like 5 bucks each I would be far more likely to buy more than I should. 30+ € ist just too much for a game I haven't committed myself to and probably won't because it's too expensive. Sure you get a lot gems for the missions and daily missions and what not, but those will eventually run out
ShRkDa Because there are people out there who’ll happily shell out that money, and much more after that. Even if their financial situation can’t afford it
It's kind of sad, when you think about how much effort and heart was put into Masters, and then you see how lackluster Sword and Shield are. Of course, I wasn't expecting much else from Game Freak, so at least SWSH are a step up from USUM.
I'd say graphic and music wise they have really done great job 10/10 for that BUT the main thing of the game which is battling .... not so much interesting, the battle animations are good but again it comes in the graphics part. My final thought it feels like a visual novel you just do tap tap.................and tap and ya it is nice that they are moving towards real-time battles and free to play side and that on mobile. What i expect from a real time game of pokemon is the one that is played in the pokemon championships which is similar to dragon ball z games,I dont know much about that game i just saw one video of it. It would be awesome to have same type of battles as the game I mentioned with usual pokemon series that we get on consoles.

Question: as this is a sponsored video, is the review editorially affected by the sponsorship (i.e. is is closer to an ad rather than a review due to not being able to say anything negative about the product)
Honest, annoying answer that nobody’s going to like? There’s no real way to tell other than the video itself. There’s a lot of common sponsors who obviously provide the same script and are notoriously strict (Audible, Dollar Shave Club, Raid) but, by the same token, there’s a respectable number who are incredibly lax, good-spirited, and sometimes even encourage critique for future improvement. A few that come to mind are Parsec, Crunchyroll, and Movement. It really just boils down to how the company/organization has behaved with its sponsorships in the past. Since DeNA is relatively new to the limelight, there’s really not any background for us to evaluate based on, meaning that we have no idea what kind of policy they have. The only thing we can do is use our critical thinking on the video at hand. Personally, I do agree that this is at least partially an ad, but it’s more review than ad. Lockstin goes hard against the parts of the game he doesn’t like, but he also expresses what he thinks is good, and, more importantly, _why_ - which is something that’s usually missing from the generic scripts. It’s certainly not unbiased, but then again, nothing is. Take it with the same size grain of salt you would take any other review.
I would download it, if it wasn't region locked... I emailed the developers and they told me it won't release here, EVER. (Checked the play Store and it even says it is not available in my region.) Issues like this make me feel like i live in the 90's with restricted access. It's the digital era, why is this still an issue!? I can just just dowload the APK and play illegally, why legally restrict players from downloading it! Anyone else have this problem?
Thank you for this really informative video! I've *always* been highly sceptical of this game, as that's how I usually am with mobile games and I don't like how Game Freak have been diverting their attention to one, but this properly tells me what I need to know without risking being hurt going into it! Personally I feel that the gameplay to this game really isn't the main drawing point. In fact, neither are the Pokemon themselves really. Seeing all those characters again though (heck even the assist characters from Gen 4) is really refreshing and exciting! And damn, those animations are on point! I loved that Pokemon World Tournement back in B2W2 and I really wish they did the same thing in Gen 7 or Gen 8. The Battle Tree felt really underwhelming and now I realise part of the reason. The underused feature of battling previous characters just....lacked character. Those expressions seen in Masters sets the standard. I might pick this game up, but if I do I doubt I'll stick with it. I just like seeing the characters make an energetic return, that's all. The simplified gameplay here really isn't my thing.
Can't find it in the play store... Wait... "This app is incompatible with all of your devices." Welp, guess that answers that question: It's not worth it for me. (Can't even get the APK downloaded elsewhere to install)
Rosa: "In a sync battle, your Pokémon's attacks can usually either hit or miss, but I guess some attacks never miss, huh?" Nyannyancosplay: " *_Am I a joke to you?_* "
What I got from this: there's still a huge stigma that mobile games are low quality even though there are plenty that look and operate like console games.
This game is extremely boring, Sword and shield ain't even out, you know nothing about the story yet, you're probably just a sour kid cause of not all pokemon reaching sword and shield

It probably varies, but I think they're focus on the trainers that were named and not NPCs so I wouldn't get your hopes on Hex Maniac until any news are given
Characters have personalities!? What kind of alternate reality are we living in?

Or, just maybe, anyone's reaction can be biased. You've certainly proven that to be true.
Unlike most people Flannery WASN'T my first cartoon crush. Mine was Phoebe.

Replying here cause maybe someone knows and replies how affected it is

Great video! I'm sick today so I've spent the day on my couch watching TH-cam and playing Pokémon Masters. So far I agree with you completely, it's a gatcha game but a good one. It's fun and worth downloading for sure.
I've been playing for about a week, haven't spent any money an have 50 sync pairs.
okay so first, I love it that they didn't include some sort energy or stamina you need to recharge to play the game. Just love it
But the Gacha is just so duckin expensive, like a 10x roll (which are obviously the rolls you wanna do) costs you 3000 gems and you can buy 3200 gems for 32€.

The Illusionist Well with the way you describe it, I can definitely see it as trustworthy.

Looking back at this video 4 years later shows how much the game has changed in these past few years!
and now we have the "you can't use those gems you've saved up for our opening deal, you gotta buy 'em" controversy.
Wait...

Welp, guess that answers that question: It's not worth it for me. (Can't even get the APK downloaded elsewhere to install)
