If we actually met aliens the probability of them being even _remotely_ humanoid would be pretty darn low, and yet most depictions of aliens are humanoid anyway. It depends if the universe follows the same laws of symmetry as on earth. Most intelligent species have 2 arms and 2 legs, 4-5 digits on each, 2 eyes, body hair, etc.
