  • Running the gauntlet today,
    The BETU 35kg (which is apparently what it's named) and the DS Power DS-R003B. Both clam 35kg @ 8.4 volts. We test both at 7.4 and 8.4 volts.
    The "New Canyon Protocol" tests servos piped through a Hobbywing 1080G2, which is running off of a regulated power supply. This will (I hope) provide as close is as practical to real-world stall torque numbers.

    More good info. You're gonna make me reconsider my preference for pricier direct power servos.

    I appreciate that you're using the G2 now since the SE's have a similar spec BEC. The cheap servo + bec thing is the exact numbers I was looking at recently. Even a $30 servo + BEC can get you into Flash Hobby or AGF Rx-power and direct power options. I caught a 20% coupon the other week for an SA75 and jumped on it.
    The gear lash is a thing I've also noticed on the less expensive servos. It's basically not really noticeable, until it is haha. That little wobble at speed and chasing some perceived steering slop when it is just the servo gears. I'm guessing / hoping the more expensive stuff includes more consistent quality for lash, as well as customer support when needed. You've mentioned customer support in the past, this is not anything you haven't mentioned before

    I have two of those green DS servos and so far, for what I've paid for them, they're doing a good job😊

    The Betu would make a great bash and track servo with its consistency and tight gear train plus value at $30. Wow.

    The Amazon blue case 35kg, Zoskay & Annimos, are the goto steering servos for many of my favorite "real world" content creators. I have a single Zoskay and the 2 pack of Annimos in my cart, waiting for my stock servos to blow😂 and I get the funds to finish my Phoenix.

    For anyone keen, AMain just emailed me saying the TRX4 Sport High Trail is now only $379.99. It’s not my cuppa, but I reckon that’s a decent deal!

      I think that's the "new" pricing. Units must not have been moving at $429. They should have dropped the OG Sport to $300-320 as well.

    As 5 different tire gauges are the most scientific to measure car tire psi…which one is right?😂 Your cool dude mean people need more love and are dumb…like your statement about shouting is the result of a “Lazy Mind”. Actually has helped me think deeper with patience in my sobriety exercises and personal life affairs thank you.

    I put a Betu 35 on my brother's SOA; It was unimpressive at first, but holy cow did it start to suck after a run or two. It still works but dang is it SLOW AND WEAK now.

    You make this hobby sound so much more reasonably priced when you quote US$. Shipping to the great white north is ridiculous 🇨🇦

    How would the esc be a rectifier it’s not converting an alternating sign wave to DC, the battery provides Direct current like the set up real nice? This is a legitimate question I’m asking because I don’t know all things about an esc.
    My best experience on a 4 diode rectifier was integrated into the voltage regulator it was my 2006 Yamaha banshee. I de soldered the lighting ground off the stator and floated it to a small atv battery where the taillight rested used the battery to smooth out the half sing wave. Able to leave incandescent bulb in the taillight. Then I was able to run my RIGID 10” e-series light bar I could charge my phone and run my Walmart bicycle “BELL” compact air compressor when I would get flats. I was able to reliably run up to 4-1/5 amps worth of lighting which is impressive. Never had to re wound the stator all stock. Uh Canyon I miss those days so much man that stuff was fun! Anyways love your education piece and blessings sir.

      So in my most basic understanding, a brushed ESC is a DC to DC device, functionally an amplifier (basically.)
      Again simply, a brushless ESC is an inverter, turning DC input into AC output. A rectifier turns AC into DC, so you'll find one in say any power tool that plugs into a wall but uses a brushed motor. ( I was mentally swirling the rectifier and inverter)

      @@CrawlerCanyonokay cuz a 1080g2 is only brushed so dc in dc out. I can understand the brushless no difference then 3phase motors at work I diag or replace converting dc to ac. Why switching 2 of the 3 wires will change motor direction And yes to convert ac into dc it would look like 4 diodes in each corner of a shape “square” then you get the half ripple. The reason for a capacitor to smooth out the wave and or battery wich is the same thing. The battery can charge off a half ripple then. Be cool if we could have scale alternators but never enough to recharge. Our servos are generators with out diode why when you manually flick your wheels one way you’ll get a small light up on our head lights (rc). Will back feed to the receiver.

    Maybe I missed it or it wasn't said. What is your recommendation on kg for a serious crawler.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Now I think TH-cam is eating comments, because I'm positive I answered this. I consider 35kg to be the minimum, and prefer around 50kg. You can get away with a solid 32kg for SOA, so long as it's a little faster. For speed I look for around 0.16 at the slowest* and 0.09 at the fastest. I've seen some 0.03 servos out there, and it's just stupid. There is absolutely such a thing as too fast.
      *I look past speed in cases like the Amazon Blue Case, because in some builds I just don't see the point in paying for extra speed.

    Life is too short for brushed motors and cheap servo's.

    • @brianmorrison2846
      @brianmorrison2846 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm not rich by no means but I've being doing HVAC work on the side for 36 yrs to support my at the time hobby or obsessions. You can actually do damage to a pretty new body by trying to compensate for a brushed motor and cheap esc, or a weak servo not positioning the rig correctly. So you break an axle or pull a rod end, it's all good if you like repairing rigs. I prefer smooth and quite with a slight motor scream on the top end. The steering servo should be silent.
