    =============================
    There are many manufacturers of Programmable Logic Controllers that are used in the Automation industry. One of the leading PLC manufacturers in the world is ‪@abbplc‬.
    ABB offers a full line of industrial PLC controllers and safety PLC controllers with a wide range of I/O cards, interfaces, and modules.
    The AC500 PLC is a scalable platform that provides options for small to very large automation systems.
    The standard AC500 PLC is offered in models ranging from 128 kilobytes of memory for small applications to models with 160 megabytes of memory for larger applications.
    Each model can accept several different Terminal Units which can provide interfaces for communication and various I/O modules.
    The I/O modules available include AC and DC digital input and output modules and voltage and current analog input and output modules.
    A large number of communication interfaces are available for AC500 PLCs.
    Each CPU has the capability for up to four interfaces integrated into the CPU module.
    Additionally, up to four slots are available for additional communication modules.
    Supported modules include Ethernet, EtherCAT, Profinet, Profibus DP, CANopen, DeviceNet, Serial, Modbus TCP, as well as others.
    All modules are equipped with standard connection ports based on the interface and terminals for wired connections.
    Other AC500 PLC models provide specialized functionality, such as the AC500-eCo, which is a small, compact PLC with a small number of I/O integrated into the processor module.
    The AC500-HA family of PLCs provides hardware redundancy through the use of redundant bus connections and a synchronization cable.
    The AC500-S PLC platform provides an integrated safety system featuring safety-rated controllers and I/O cards.
    The AC500-XC controller is used in areas where extreme environmental conditions are likely to exist.
    All AC500 are programmed using the “ABB Automation Builder” software. Three versions are available: Basic, which is a free version for basic system engineering tasks, Standard, and Premium.
    The Standard version is intended for integrated system engineering with additional support for communication interfaces.
    The Premium version extends the Standard version by adding productivity and collaborative features, such as change management tools, Python scripting, and Open Device integration.
    ABB Automation Builder is an integrated software package that allows configuration and programming of PLC controllers, safety controllers, I/O, motor drives, motion control, ABB CP600 HMI panels, and SCADA functionality, such as data archiving and process alarming.
    For larger systems, Automation Builder includes a multi-program download tool that allows program downloads to multiple PLCs from a single setup.
    Additional software modules available for Automation Builder include several very useful applications that are often used in automation systems.
    The AC500 OPC Server application allows data in AC500 devices to be shared with other applications and servers, including data historians and 3rd Party PLCs, such as Siemens S7 PLCs or Rockwell Logix PLCs.
    The Virtual Commissioning Platform add-on application allows testing of the software program independent of the hardware.
    Virtual devices are used to emulate the real hardware, so field signals and communication between devices can be simulated.
    The speed of the Virtual Controller execution can be sped up, slowed down, or frozen so that logic states can be inspected.
    ABB AC500 PLCs are typically programmed using Continuous Function Charts, an advanced type of function block, and structured text.
    Support for the other IEC 61131-3 standard languages such as Ladder Logic, Sequential Function Charts, and Instruction List is also provided.
    In the complementary video, Applying an ABB PLC to a Small Process, realpars.com/abb, We will configure a simple ABB AC500 PLC system to demonstrate how the components we have introduced are connected.

    Hi, Love your videos.
    In the video it sais that Continous Function chart is the main porgramming language used with ABB Plcs, how come and why not Ladder Logic like with other PLCs?

    • @realpars
      @realpars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Continuous Function charts are very powerful for continuous and batch programming, similar to what is used in many modern DCS systems. CFC's are well-suited for communicating with Profibus devices like VFD's and remote I/O. These blocks are similar to Add-On instructions with Rockwell PLCs and are programmed similarly to function block in most PLC systems. CFC's are an easier way to manage complex systems than ladder logic, although ladder logic provides a level of logic control that many programmers like. All of these languages work; it is just my experience that ABB PLC programmers seem to prefer CFC's over Ladder.

    dose the software automation builder support older PLC versions ?
    like the PM450 from ABB ?
    or PM150 from abb ?
    i am asking cause we have those in a plant i work on and i am looking for their software :)
    also i appreciate the high details explanation you did in this video , it was so helpful and i wish to see more about it wither here or in the website
    also last question
    there is a software called codsys and i thought it is the one used to program the ABB PLCs however iam more confused now is it related to ABB or not ?

    • @Mubarak47
      @Mubarak47 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it does support previous versions too. Automation Builder is a development tool by ABB used to configure the plc hardware. Once configured Codesys is used to program the hardware. Codesys is an independent platform used to program the controllers.

    • @rain0aldwaib
      @rain0aldwaib 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mubarak47 so codsys can be used to make the logic (software for the cpu) however i can not configure the hardware ( like the hardware configuration in simatic manager) with it ??
      also in automation builder i can configure the hardware and the software right ??
      have you worked on PM150 or PM450 befor ?
      is it possible to retrive the logic from them using automation builder
      sorry too much question :P

    • @Mubarak47
      @Mubarak47 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rain0aldwaib Well when you program ABB AC500 PLC's Automation builder and Codesys work side by side Unlike Rockwell and siemens(where we just use communication software and rest programming and hardware is done in the same software). First you configure the hardware & communication parameters and other stuffs in automation builder, then you get an option to write your code in it. Code retrieval is a bit problem in codesys. They do have an upload option. But it doesn't work the way it should.

    • @Mubarak47
      @Mubarak47 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ABB's automation builder basic is available on their homepage for free. That's more than enough to get started throughout. A normal Ethernet cable is all you need to program the ac500 series.

    Is there large difference b/w AC500&AC800?

    • @realpars
      @realpars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The AC500 was developed for small applications like demonstrated in the video. It can easily handle up to several hundred IO. It is inexpensive by comparison, highly modular, and is more or less a “brick PLC” with high-end features and a lot of power.
      The AC800M series of PLC is aimed at large projects with higher I/O count. The AC800 CPUs form the backbone of the 800xA DCS platform. The AC800 is more expensive but can easily be configured for much larger I/O footprints.
      My own experience is that the AC500 requires more configuration and programming effort as compare to the AC800M. In my opinion, at somewhere around 250 I/O, AC800M becomes more economical to purchase and program.
