Das Saarbrücker Quintett um Sänger Attila Dorn lässt seit 2003 die Metal-Szene in Verzückung geraten. Ihre Konzerte sind wahre Messen - opulentes Make-Up, Kostüme und Grusel-Pseudonyme inbegriffen. Die Band genießt einen exzellenten Ruf als Live-Act und liefert mit ihrem theatralischen Power/Heavy Metal große Unterhaltung ab.
Die Bandgründung von Powerwolf verlief laut eigener Aussage so: Die Brüder Matthew und Charles Greywolf lernen im Rumänien-Urlaub am Tresen ihren künftigen Sänger kennen. Attila Dorn hat bis dato nur Klassik-Erfahrung (er ist angehender Opernsänger in Bukarest), aber das schreckt die beiden Ur-Powerwölfe nicht.
Dorn ist ein Glücksgriff und der ideale Interpret für die spirituell angehauchten Songs der Band, die auf Englisch, Latein und Deutsch und mit Augenzwinkern das Christentum und rumänische Sagen behandeln. Auf ihren Alben kommt sogar ein Kirchenchor zum Einsatz, und Falk Maria Schlegel spielt passend dazu die Orgel. An den Drums sitzt seit 2013 Roel van Helden.
Mit ihren ersten Songs gehen Powerwolf erst einmal nach Schweden und nehmen bei Fredrik Nordström ihr Debütalbum "Return In Bloodred" (VÖ 2005) auf. Schon hier zeigt sich die Powerwolf-typische Mischung aus Heavy Metal, Power Metal und nicht immer ganz ernst gemeinten Texten. Am Ende ist alles Entertainment - dargeboten mit viel Herz und Können.
2007, die Band hat schon einen eigenen Fanclub, folgt "Lupus Dei". Mit "Bible Of The Beast" (2009) wird der Sound richtig orchestral und nochmal um einiges härter. 2011 erscheint "Blood Of The Saints" mit der Mitsinghymne "We Drink Your Blood". Nun spielen Powerwolf endgültig in der ersten Liga des Metal mit. Es folgt ein Plattendeal bei Napalm Records und große Auftritte bei Wacken und Co.
Nach "Preachers Of The Night" folgt 2015 "Blessed And Possessed" und erreicht Platz drei der Albumcharts. "The Sacrament Of Sin" (2018) toppt den Erfolg des Vorgängers und erreicht Platz 1 der Albumcharts in Deutschland. Darauf verwenden Powerwolf erstmals Dudelsäcke - und präsentieren ihre erste Ballade. Doch der Ruf der Wildnis bleibt stark. Passend dazu heißt Album Nummer Acht "Call Of The Wild". Auch in den Zwanzigern heulen die Wölfe also - und das lauter denn je.

Absolutely. I saw them 2019 for the first time. It was the best concert of my life - and I've been to lots of great concerts like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Nightwish, Elton John, Roxette in the last 20 years, but as awesome as those have been, Powerwolf 1-upped them all. It's basically a religious experience (I guess, never had one before).
By means of a pandemic and other things, I had to wait until a few days ago, almost 4 years, to see them live again - that was a looong wait. Now I'm already craving for their next tour.

This was my first concert in 19 years and I will remember it forever 100% going to another.

Seriously the way Attila Dorn carries those notes in amen and attack is awesome. These guys sound better live then on album. Absolutely amazing vocals and instrumentals. You couldn't ask for a better show all around

Die Show war Live in der Halle genau so gut gemixt. Dafür dass die Köpi Arena immer den Ruf von schlechter akustik hatte haben die Jungs echt hart gut geklungen! 🤘
@@OldWhiteBastard Mag sein, dass das kein Hexenwerk ist. Wenn ich mir aber den durschnittlichen Sound von Live-Aufnahmen (die nicht unbedingt DVDs von der Band selber sind) anschaue, ist das hier deutlich über dem Schnitt.

This is what happens when a bunch of folks work their butts off. The art is just right, the band knows exactly what they're doing. The lighting design is right, the sound crew has pulled off a major coup. Worth every penny. Excellent theater!

Sabaton is from my point of view the best band I know for now. Objectively I know there are better ones, but I like military history and there way of telling stories (the sabaton history channel is great and has great links where I can learn more), also it was my for now first concert in my live with lordi, babymetal and Sabaton.
I gues my second could be powerwolf this year in November, because I found out they will be next to my university in Ravensburg. Three weeks afther this I already have my ticket for babymetal in Munich

Ive seen many many bands over my 53 years and many put on a good show but very few look like they are having fun while on stage now Powerwolf comes along and their energy never seems to stop plus they have a kick ass stage show
