Great job Jon. I've seen at least 10 other lessons on this song and I believe yours is the most comprehensive and includes variations on chords I haven't seen elsewhere.
Jon, Bless you for this awesome tutorial. I have sung this song so many times. (I have been a John Denver Tribute Artist for many years) This, along with help from my bandmates, is a game-changer. Now to perfect it and ad my vocals. I will not forget this. Peace
I like how you taught this. I learned an easier way to play than the way I have tried it, and filled in a few missing parts for me. And you invite us to jam with you! Not everyone does that. Very cool.
Jon + just heard the song yesterday and wife and I were saying how nice it was and there you are - most excellent teacher and guitarist... Thanks a bunch & cheers from Seattle 🍻 Alex
Excellent lesson!! Telling us about the the rhythm and the 16th notes is so important and no other teacher I have seen has done that. There is a video of Pete Huttlinger playing this riff and your lesson is spot on. Thank you!
Good tutorial, thanks for this :) I was struggling to sing and play this and then I watched his 1982 solo performance. Check out the strumming hand in main verse riff, 100% alternating strokes which I think is where some of the magic is.
heard this song for the first time a couple of days ago. instant favourite! now i had to learn and play it. checked out the first couple of videos on youtube but they're just meh. yours is great. excellent playing and tone. what a wonderful tune this will bring me a lot of joy and might actually be a song to perform when people ask you to "play something". wish i could sing as high as john denver though!
I learned this from Pete Huttlinger, but your version seems a bit "cleaner" and I like your strumming pattern. Going to adapt my play and incorporate this. Thanks !!
very nice tutorial... when you played it all together at the end you should sing so we can hear how the singing goes over that riff... that is tricky to me.
Absolutely awesome! Thank you for showing the slower, more patient way to learn this song. I started playing around 12 and this song was hot at the time..unfortunately song/chord books were hard to come by in 1972 so I had to do it by ear playing the song in E with no capo. The way you play it I wouldn't know whether it was you or John. Hope you do 'Poems. Prayers and Promises' soon. Are you playing a Martin guitar?

I was struggling as intermediate student to get the chords right for the chorus and you definitely taught it with the most clarity. Thank you!!

you were clearer on Rocky Mountain High than any video I've seen so far. Good teacher. I'd like to see a video on how to play David Gilmour's Smile.
Jon, Thank you for posting this lesson. This is a song I revisit every so often, but haven't mastered. Maybe now I can🙂. Tony
Me to!

thanks for this! That bar of 2/4 was throwing me and I couldn't figure out where it was! Thank you for the great tutorial!
Amazing tutorial. Playing the rif off of the d chord while singing for me at least is like walking and chewing gum. Hopefully I’ll get it someday!
Good tutorial, thanks for this :)
