In two separate interviews to discuss the Election Commission, at a time when it has been reduced to a one man Commission and the Prime Minister has the power to overrule Opposition concerns whilst appointing two new Election Commissioners, two former Chief Election Commissioners have expressed concern about the public image and impression of the Election Commission.

Qureshi always sits on the fence even when it comes to persecution of Muslims. Most retired public servants are on government pension. Thapar won't get much out of them. Overruling the supreme court directive on selection of ECs by the government is the single biggest anti constitutional act among many others in the last ten years. It's like Rohit Sharma selecting the three umpires before a cricket match and instructing them what to do. Look at the ads put out by BJP to promote Modi by using Indian Army and children. The CEC is already in deep slumber except to warn one person Rahul Gandhi not to say PANAUTI. Wonderful election commission.

I agree to all of that & the fact that the collegium to select CEC should be non-partisan, but where was this concern all these years when this mechanism did not even exist at all & CEC was basically directly chosen by the PM?

I don't understand. I work in an office. If I need to resign, I need to replace, give knowledge transfer, serve a notice period, and what not. But a person in the top position in election commission can simply decide not to go to work from today, and the whole country can suffer, and yet we never made any rule about such resignations. I don't know if I'm more important than the CEC....

No, employment under govt is contract based. Either give three months notice or pay three month’s salary and leave at it. That is all. It is equally applicable to the employer and employee. If there is a disciplinary proceedings against a servant or the govt. wants to remove him unreasonably, this rule will not be applicable.

In a country where the holder of the highest executive position in the Government is not mandatorily required to hold any specific educational qualifications, it is not surprising that the rules you rightly mentioned regarding resignations of senior Government functionaries do not exist.

Whatever feelings people may have but responsible people should not side with anti social elements who value castes and classes of society. Crucial point is that 2024 poll should be held by ballot papers only . Civil society, Sensitive Citizens, lawyers forum and all public should come on road to strongly protest and exerts pressure to EC that conduct 2024 poll by ballots only not by doubtfull EVM ( manipulated EVM ) as Election is people's events in which public choose his service Provider, EC is simply an agency to conduct free and fare poll, so EC should not admant to use EVM in 2024 in poll.??🤔
