Since moving to the SNES 16-bit land, Mega Man has taken the secret identity X, but everyone knows it's still him because he's the only blue robot who shoots three pellets at a time at other robots, steals their weapons, and zips through walls.
FractalFusion plays this game a bit differently than usual. He abuses a failed password in order to obtain all weapons before the intro stage; this also causes all 8 Mavericks to be flagged as beaten, so the run proceeds directly to the Sigma stages after the intro stage.
Because the failed password does not include X's armor upgrades and the Maverick stages are never entered, the dash boots (normally impossible to avoid) are never collected, meaning that Mega Man X spends the entire run walking through the stages; this provides more opportunities for entertainment than usual. That's a neat little detail there. His portrait was the right color in the cutscene after the first Vile fight...in a scene where you're only supposed to have the buster! This means that portraits aren't hard coded!
It's how 16 but hardware works, it uses X's color palette so if that changes so does anything using that
It's still interesting how 8-bit and 16-bit hardwares work.
You do not know how palettes work, do you? I'll spare you the complicated stuff and just say that lots of items use ghe same line, and when ghat color line is altered, EVERYTHING using that line as there colors changed, no expectations

In the game its required the boots, i think that is the reason
it probably has to do with some logic in the game about how its not possible to finish chill penguins stage with out the boots there for not possible to finish the game at the very least with boots and buster

If you somehow skipped Zeros death, you'd probably still have the arm parts
I think its because your not expected to beat Sigma without the dash boots so X having them in the final cut scene is written into the games code

X would also have no weapons but the default blaster. So good luck being "smart" without cheats.
Little things like the weapon changing made me laugh along with a few things I've never thought about doing. Very nice, I definitely enjoyed this. Great job!

7:08 I too try to avoid harming Mettaurs whenever I play this stage. I mean, by the time of the X series, they're likely considered priceless antiques.
So are the Bubble-Bats (Armored Armadillo's stage) that Almost always give 1-ups. But since the Bats and Mettaurs still identify you as "Mega Man", it's a clear case of "them or you".

I used a Game Genie code to get all the boss weapons at the start, once. I even managed to finish the game without the boots. The glitches are exactly the same. Zero's shot glitches the weapon meter at the end of the intro stage, and X loses his torso and legs at the end.

You can in the SNES version as well, and it is likely impossible to get everything without redoing stages.
Sure, it might have been faster a bit, but I'm not 100% sure. It sure is more entertaining this way, though.
@@forestdragonwing7552 from my path, I only need 1 revisit to Chill Penguin for the heart container. 2 if you want the easter egg in Armored Armadillo. There may be a better way, but that's how i always played it as a kid.
The point of the glitch is that hes nos suppouse to pass the game without them because in the cutscene at the end he dashes and they never made a sprite of him dashing without the dashboots so they just disapear

I tried to do the Password Glitch on my Rom, but I ended up with X not being able to move with a max health
of 0. I'm on Rev 1. Help.

What does a password glitch do?
Although you win the fight against Zigma, you get a song that’s kinda sad in the credits. Eventually we do get to know that X stopped fighting because of the Megaman Zero series, but we never get to know if X found the answer.

Did anyone else try a glitch password as a kid that got you to Sigma stages without the leg part just to see what happens at the end when X dashes?
Glitch password wasn't discovered until recently. Nobody in the 90's knew this existed. There were vague rumors of it. But no one knew how to replicate it and was disregarded as bullshit.
@@Magus12000BC Really? I was playing it mid 2000s and saw this password on MMHP (The Mega Man Home Page), and I tried it out. It puts past all the Mavericks, ready for the Sigma stages with everything but the leg part.
@@TayoEXE - You got to bare in mind, I am talking 90's here. You wanted to know if someone tried it as a kid. I was in 3rd grade when this game came out. I graduated in '02. I wasn't a kid in the timeframe you're talking about.

how can you do it without upgrades
The description stated that because the code was entered and caused a glitch, megaman X has access to all the weapons and the game thinks all the bosses have been defeated so the speedrunner doesn't have to play any of the stages that aren't sigma stages, meaning the runner can ignore the dash boots.

[ytg] People make assumptions that TAS means cheating, and thus no effort was made into the run, despite the fact TAS is an art onto itself that requires extensive knowledge and execution of the game down to the minutes of details.
