I saw them in Byron Bay at the Services Club back in 91 and they were great. Before the show, this lovely young lass sat next to me at the bar having a beer with me and chatting and it was only after she got up on stage that I realized it was Wendy James. Blew my mind. She was such a down to earth person and not at all acting like she was better than anyone else. Just a real person like everyone else. Wendy will always be my favourite female artist.
Wendy James is a Darling....I just was lucky enough to meet her in Newcastle before she went on stage...such a lovely person she is.....so quick witted interesting to listen to......she made my day. Her performance at the gig was just AWESOME......The Wendy James Band did it for me.....Thanks again Wendy if you are reading this....btw......its Guy not Gary.....mwahhhhhhh
As usual, sophisticated, intelligent, playful and a touch of potty mouth. A fine fine mix! in 1988 transvision vamp had no equal 2 fingers firmly up at the establishment.
I was a teenager when they hit the scene and I recall the tabloids weren’t very favourable towards her so I kind of wrote her off . But watching all her interviews in retrospect I realise what an intelligent, articulate and interesting person she was . Her comments on Aspel about searching for her real parents was brutally honest .
In the 80s, when not many others here in western Canada had heard of Transvision Vamp, I was rockin out to your music.... I can hear so many influences in there from The Ramones to Meatloaf
I was 17 and i wanted to be Wendy james and willlld 😁👌😍 loved baby i don't care and as someone who grew up on blondie it was like someone for my generation 😁 yayyyyyyyy ❤️
What a unique person, she's such a brilliant pop/rock star, I loved and still love Transvision Vamp and Wendy, she's was so fresh and interesting when she came on the scene, a pop star with intelligence, presence and an opinion ! Amazing lady! :)
... "and the stars aligned! .🌠 - casually states "... and it was Joe Strummers local as well ... "and I was like "Oh what a good day. i just did Top of the Pops and now I'm drinking straight whisky with Joe" 💯💫 ❤ ❤ ❤ HER❣
While many agree that Wendy James looked/looks a million dollars, beyond the appeal of her great style and aesthetic is an authenticity. Back then TV was able to combine musical talent, originality and popular appeal which anyone who has tried to get a band off the ground will know, is not at all straight forward or easy.
great interview.Good thing about them was their appreciation of pUnK.Would compare The Primatives with them who also had a great vocalist initially immersed in the sounds of 76/77.Transvision Vamp also appreciated the youth subculture of the time with the suedehead, metaller and greaser look thrown in for the craic backing up Wendys punk vocal barrage..Pity we wont see em again. Then again we wont see Garth Gates either which IS SOOTHING.
The Primatives i love. When it was ok to be blown away by female punk. It still is, but a small few with a loud voice don't agree. Great input and I have prayed for music to be not effected by the corrupt left, for without them is when music can change life for the better. The whole beginning of rock n roll would never have occurred without 2 sexes.. 1977 punk changed a lot
Wendy is beautiful now and then. Loved her mini-dress, her white blonde hair, her bright pink lipstick and white boots, so incredibly sexy and add to that her rock chick songs which were epic. Every boys fantasy when Transvision Vamp came along. Avril Lavigne owes a lot to Wendy's sound too. 2 of the most beautiful girls of rock. They now both look incredibly alike. Happy Days.
I was 14 I even remember media talking crap about her and thinking even then whats their problem? How dare a women do what she wants and not fit into a perfect little woman role - straight up misogyny, she’s cool and thats all their is to it.
The Warwick Castle pub was a right old boozer, plenty of characters in there. That whole Ladbroke Grove and Portobello vibe kept going for a good chunk of the 90s, but now it’s gone forever. Just loads of rich people pretending they’re not rich, walking around in gym gear with their fucking coffees.
Not really, it’s all relative, back in the day when you referring to, someone from the 60s or 70s would have castigated all you flash youngsters. Just saying.
Hackney has become the same. We had an awesome vibe back in the 80s and 90s and the rave and reggae scene was as raw and real as it gets and the place was rocking. Miss those days. Everything is so sanitised and contrived today. I just long to be around people who don't give a fuck and know how to have a good time. People are forgetting you only live once, make the most of it! People have really forgotten how to live these days.
Wendy was the female Billy Idol....should have gone much further....mainstream got a hold and turned a great rock front woman too bubblegum. Intelligent girl when u watch current videos.
sexy bazazz from wendy james a lot of guys dreams made back then a woman to chase for but a clever minx whose business brain still shines bright good on yer girl

Funny life is. I remember seeing wendy james back in 1980s i was mid 20s.. now late 50 and yet you still see some female artist as they were....then now...blocking the thought that they age too but wendy still looks hot.. shame kim wilde a little fuller figure.. kate garner still thin..
Transvision Vamp was an absolutely underrated Band. A fantastic act and a first album that still stands tall
Transvision Vamp and Wendy James was my life. Still listen each week at least. Love her

Pure genius, pure style, eloquence, attitude. The last great harrah of British Pop music before the house and grunge scene. Wendy James is iconic.
Twangy Wigout (and the remixes) etal still on my daily playlist to this day. In Wendy we trust. God bless you.
Epic group with epic tracks sung and performed by a beautiful angel. Thank you for your musical contribution in our lives. Regards from South Africa.

@SunshineMix101..Nicely put..totally agree.
They could have been absolutely mega if the record company hadn't been run by bean counters and withdrawn support.
Less impact in the US, but Wendy James made a huge impact on me .
Wendy James back in the day "yes" Wendy James now "YES"
Still got it 👍

Don't forget The Duke of Wellington. 🤔
I really thought they would become as huge as Blondie. Sadly, I was wrong.
Transvision Vamp took over from where Blondie left off - strong frontwoman, a tinge of punk and the band backing her that are largely forgotten.
Wendy was the female Billy Idol....should have gone much further....mainstream got a hold and turned a great rock front woman too bubblegum. Intelligent girl when u watch current videos.
My hubby had the biggest crush on Wendy !
No wonder it wasn't on you with that horrible artificial hair!

Wendy James, Blondie, Siouxsie Sioux, then we had to wait 20 years for Lady Gaga to take up the batton

I've slashed billions of potential children over Wendy.
