Way belated, but Mike and I became friends in rehab. He was a gentle, caring person. The two of us briefly led some poetry-therapy sessions.

u r so lucky because rehab is a crock (it never works because it's claiming to cure a condition that science hasnt found a cure for) and for vast majority of people it's a boring, stupid experience but for you it was a once in a lifetime opportunity getting to meet and know a legendary person. Most humans will never encounter anyone who has played a role in changing history.

I was at my first concert in 1991, and Alice In Chains was opening up for Van Halen. An amazing show. I didn’t know if AIC at the time, but my friend Jared and I dug them. During the intermission Mike Start came down and just started talking to people. I was in row 7 at the then Rose Garden (now Moda Center) in Portland Oregon. He came up to us as he could see two star struck teenagers looking at him. He offered me a drink of his beer, and I was so Star struck I reached out my hand to shake his, he obliged, and then I ran back to my seat. My friend saw him shrug his shoulders and talk to the next guy. He was very gracious. I was disappointed to hear he left the band, but I was even more disappointed to hear that he died. There are many stories like this when it comes to Mike. He was always interacting with people, always gracious and loving toward others. Let’s not allow his story to fade. This is why you never get hooked on this stuff folks. It’s not glamorous. Just read Layne Staley’s last interviews.

I got to say as an Alice in Chains fan it's pretty heartbreaking to hear this and hear how well Mike was and how happy in himself he was only a year before he ODed. But then again my policy is:
"Don't focus on how they died
but, how they lived. Everyone has to face death regardless. And I got to say this man probably had a great life and his music, which what was his true passion, definitely inspired me in my heart.

    • @rogue-like4life
      @rogue-like4life 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

He didn't seem to happy after he got kicked out of the band, although at least him and Layne were still friends. Once Layne died, I'm sure things got even worse undoubtedly.

Even when you get through it what she did his demons are going to crawl back at him every time man cuz you don't deal with the problems that you started using in the first place to remedy those problems never get fixed not knowing how to deal sober at first it's all good but then the boredom comes in but intense boredom the cravings he thinks about what he did the lane he finds himself reaching for that oxy or that Klonopin or that benzo when you do those things in life then you just medicate yourself with drugs to forget about them you can't be sober those kind of people will never be able to live in the reality that they creating for yourself for the sober mindset... and a lot of the times it's an injury that really is painful and the attic mind will say I'm really am hurt I need to take this and that starts the downfall which is probably what happened to Mike Knowing damn well that is an addict you gotta stay away ...

He was always super nice, funny af with wry smile, sincere, and very respectful of me. He was a bud. I still don't feel right how he was not in the band anymore. What a godam Aries beauty he was. x x x

Mike just mischaracterized what happened in Brazil, after doing drugs with Kurt and Courtney and then not telling Layne about it ... when Mike passed out on Layne, Layne was freaked out that Mike had died on him for 11 minutes. So, of course Mike didn't "die" for 11 minutes... he nodded off and passed out. You have to remember that Layne was high at the time too so seeing Mike passed out and unresponsive when Layne thought he should have been fine...it really freaked Layne out at the time, hence throwing Mike in the shower and hitting him in the face. I'm assuming Layne slapped the hell out of him to get him to wake up, not really punched him.

This is why with recovery we need to keep a constant dialogue of serious honesty with someone that we trust it is so important I am a recovering addict myself and I have seen myself with long periods of sobrietyand we called this mic is experiencing right now in this interview in the program we call this the pink cloud ☁️where your body is just filling itself up with all kinds of natural endorphins again you're extremely positive it is literally like the same feeling of being released from a prison once you get outside those doors the happiness you feeland the positivity that you feel you feel like a god much like with coming off of drugsthis is where we need our support the most because there is a downside to this we do run into a crash and that crash is called life and reality on its terms and a lot of us will go back to the drugs because it will hit us so fast and unexpectedlythis is why it's important to have sponsors this is why it's important to be in touch with people friends and sponsors and lots and lots of hugs

Opiates can help you be so creative and care free from pain but addiction takes over and steals all of your passion. So much talent was never discovered because they all died too soon or became a junky.

Ooohhhh I could listen to him talk ALL DAY that voice?omg yes so low &deep. Looking at that pic long enough&it feels like his eyes are following u. I'm stuck on methadone &benzos &can't seem to taper (I can drop benzos in 3 days but methadone? That's a whole other animal) .I really thought he would be the 1 that was going to make it of all the 90's grunge heroin addicts but sadly he became a reality case for how deep this Bitch digs her claws in .I love how he won't say a bad word against anyone he was so sweet. RIP Mike Starr so gracious, so talented, so sweet, so real, so beautiful ,so missed.

I wonder, if in retrospect, Dr. Drew wishes he stayed on Suboxone? I would think so. Mike sounds like he was a really great guy . Not only did the world lose a great musician but a really wonderful person. AIC - one of my favorite bands, ever. RIP- Layne and Mike. As much as I love AIC, sometimes I get sad when I hear Layne’s voice.
Maybe I’m imagining it, but I can hear his pain.

Why do I listen to this. It's Nov 12 ,2020 and I'm listening to this again. According to my math, I was coming off methadone the same time he was. I'm on Suboxone now, again. When coming off 'done, I made it 8 days before I cracked and took an opiate. Gonna try kratom thanks to someone commenting in another video, before the NYS overlord bans it. I'm 42 and so fucking sick and tired of being physically dependent. My dad died of a drug overdose, in Seattle where he lived, of course. I've kinda felt better since I've made peace with the fact I'm never gonna be off opioids.

Mike Starr you are going to be missed you wrote some of the best bass lines that were ever written and I personally did not like you being in Drew pinsky's careI feel that if you were still on the Suboxone program you would be alive todayand in my mind that is exactly what you needed to be on not the methadone the Suboxone did you get these people who comment about addiction and saying it's substituting one thing from another the thing about suboxone you don't get high on it but it stops all of the craziness and if anybody who knows about opioid addiction will know that it's hell complete hell with no mercy so people should just not talkif they do not know anything about this kind of addiction because it's like no other addiction out there it's worse than every other addiction out there yes I am saying this

People are able to lead productive lives and maintain their responsibilities. Please do more research and not just "I know a person who was on it and it did this" but actual research. Research what long term opiate use does to a person's brain. Suboxone has saved more lives than it has taken.

Shannon Marie I agree. Dr Drew may have managed to help some people, but overall he’s exploitive and rude. He’s taking advantage of addicts at their most vulnerable, and he interrupts these callers and belittles them nonstop. And why couldn’t he just let Mike have that mistaken memory of Layne? Yes it was very likely incorrect, but who was that hurting?

It hurts beyond painful I'm dead serious it's opiates benzos and alcohol detox it's real not in your mind because nobody until it happens believes that mental pain while in such physical pain but mental pain becomes physical and again it's not in our minds I couldn't believe it how is it possible it can't be real and we fight it because our brain says " we've never been in this amount of pain and about to cross over the line of what I know I can get us through you can't let anymore pain happen all I can say is I can't tell you what is going to happen I can only guarantee I can probably keep your heart beating but nothing else I'd you can somehow get better do it now because your legs aren't going to work " and no matter how hard you try the mental becomes so physically painful I still can't stop I hate opiates but I would do terrible things to never feel that pain again ever it takes you to a place so dark god won't even go there he's unbelievable I love him so much he's so kind and met with him and never knew so much or how bad and definitely never ever would have tried heroin but let me be clear pain pills that come from pharmacies they are the same thing if you take and take them and stop your going to withdraw from heroin I was so naive I had no idea what was happening when I started getting so sick after my prescription ended heroin was my only option because it was so much cheaper than when I found out how much pills cost illegally ..... also Mike would not know about any girls that he's had to tell they have a " bad oder" at least not after the age of 14 because I didn't know him then and had limited conversations about him with girls back then. I feel so guilty I know it will be why I die eventually I just hope I see him when it does I feel guilty and want to apologize for doing this to myself I lost my shit for weeks when he and Layne passed but especially Mike ( I have the hottest mouth) Starr I can't listen to his voice anymore it he's always made me vibrate with his voice it literally vibrates if you're close to him
