What a breath of fresh air! Someone who doesn’t bother about “ perfection, I loved this video, and got ideas for my own scrappy quilt. Also loved the comments about the “quilt police” thinking they can tell others how they should make THEIR quilts.

I just recently found your channel. You crack me the F up! I quilt just like you do - including those tiny a$$ scraps because I make junk journals too and I will use them ❤ Keep on keeping it “REAL” 🙌🤸

That quilt top is colorful, beautiful and whimsical. Every place the eye falls, there is something so pretty and unique to look at. A different scrappy piece everywhere. My gosh, this is true art, not some repetitive age-old block. So much work went into this quilt top. Who cares about crossed seams on the back which no one will see once it is finished with batting and binding. If you wanted to make it a little larger, you could put on an inner and outer border. It’s perfect just as is!!

Thank you, Darlene, for making this beautiful quilt top. I love your spontaneous approach and that you make decisions as you go. At first, I thought that placing the 3-inch-wide blocks in the same orientation would be better, but I agree with your choice. Your videos are adventures of the imagination.

Darlene, you have probably helped more people by doing what you do, in the way that you do it, than all of those perfectionist quilters combined!! I love your videos, because I quilt the "lazy, tacky way" too, and always have. But until I found you, I felt inadequate, and somewhat of a failure, because I couldn't get perfect seam allowances! You saved me! I can't thank you enough for just being you! Oh and I love this quilt top! I've been looking for a way to use up all those strips of solids I have leftover, now I know what to do! you are a genius!!

Hi Darlene I just wanted to add a comment about you video on the scrappy quilt. I totally agree with you. I doesn’t really matter what a quilt is for. I don’t care what people do with it. It’s a free world do what you want. For the record I thought your quilt was beautiful. I like to just throw pieces together randomly and that’s my prerogative. Keep doing what you’re doing it’s fabulous and you can quote me on that. Let the haters show you what they’ve done and how perfect their projects are. Well done. 🌟 you’re a star. Cath

The best part of your videos is when you do not do too much planning. You think on your feet. That is the fun part. Love watching you do that. I find myself doing that too. Sometimes, I will make an item with scrap fabric. Just so I know if I have to make an item bigger or smaller or what needs to be altered. Then, it goes into my scrap bag. The scraps become smaller projects, scrap quilts, tabs for drawstring pulls or possibly small zippered coin purses. I have also used the scraps when I make fish purses. They are used for the scales.

I am very new to the quilting world and have been very overwhelmed with starting and finishing a beautiful quilt. I have watched tons of videos that have made me feel (which is not them ) it is me. I came across your channel by accident and you gave me so much stress relief. I am not a snob about much of anything nor am I a judge, there are too many of them in this world. I have enjoyed your quilt process and love the way you put people at ease in your video. I was raised on quilts exactly like you made, from people that made a quilt for warmth and out of material that someone outgrown or clothes that have been passed down more times than it had thread in some places. I am still a bit weirded out by the thought of taking perfectly good fabric sewing it together to then cut it up to sew it together again. I have a quilt from my mother in law that was made from literally scraps of clothes. Is it beautiful yes, is it a work of art yes! She machine sewed it on a trundle singer that I have now. In your 4 videos you taught me a world of knowledge and I thank you. I will make a quilt someday like you did and I hope to also accomplish a planned quilt with perfect new fabric and I will be proud and love them both. Thank you! ps i love that you don't let comments bother you, I could never put myself out there like you do for the fear of the comments. You are a strong and special lady!! and your moms tv did not bother me at all my aunt lives with me and she has dementia and she plays her tv loud sometime but I cherish her and our time together. She is my biggest fan.

You are awesome sauce! I'm a beginner, and got so caught up in trying to make things absolutely perfect that it took forever, and I didn't enjoy it as much. I wish I had found you first. I had such a mental block on learning the binding that I almost didn't complete it, but I did. Thank you for making it easier and forgiving for newbies. 😘

Love the quilt... Anyone who has worked in the textile industry knows there are shortcuts and not everything is cut to perfection... Sewing can be disiplined but it should also be fun, and you have shown us just how much fun sewing fabric together can be. Keep doing what the creative artist within wants to do... That is what makes you unique and special.

Okay. I know you’re not going to read this. But this is MY therapy.
A different quilting “how to” popped up and i started watching. Not to put this other video down, but WTF! She was dressed to the nines, polished nails, the whole nine yards. Her table was the size of a football field!
Who has that? Who gets dressed up to craft? Who has a room dedicated to ONE craft? I couldn’t get back to you fast enough! YOU and your crafts make me feel like I could actually do this shit! Your surroundings are real, like you. Keep it up, love watching

Love you, Darlene. :-) You taught me I didn't have to be perfect, and when I miss a point or intersection, I just drive on, and know that nobody's gonna see it, anyway, unless I point it out. It was hard the first few times (I do tend to be a perfectionist), but I got over that real fast. And you gave me confidence to just toss things together. Your crumb quilt series got me all inspired to dig into my scraps, and some very interesting things have come from that. lol! Keep being you. Haters are gonna hate - how sad for them. Do you - you're good at it.

Darlene - I am amazed at how great this quilt top turned out. When you first started I thought it would look a mish-mash with all those different 100 fabrics, but in the end it turned out into a beautiful coloured top and those thin strips pulled it all together, so well done . I started making my first crumb blocks this past weekend - you gave me the inspiration after I watched your crumb block series, so thanks for that. I'm looking forward to your next crazy sewing series - happy new year from England :)

I think running the thin strip stripes all at the bottom on first row, then all at the top on last row would create a nice “frame”....alternating them in the middle rows as you have done! Just a thought.... AND, I FEED my dog, when there are still starving people! So why couldn’t a pet have a quilt? You crack me up...LOVE the attitude, energy, and creative process...not plan, you share! This was my first of your videos, will NOT be my last! You GO, Girl!

It looks great. I have watched some perfect quilters lately while learning about quilting, and l had to chuckle when l saw a square arranged wrong on the table. But it was fixed when she sewed it. After that l found myself getting nervous if something looked wrong. I had to laugh. My mother was so perfect she stitched the quilting by hand and would take it out if it went off. My aunt slapped together uneven squares, not matching colors, using awful fabric combinations. I loved both of their quilts.

Just found you. Thank you for being so real. Loved it!! Love the quilt top!! I don’t understand why people seem to think they need to correct everyone else either. Some have just gone batty is my guess. Have a wonderful New Year!!

Another good series. Thanks. If you think the back of this quilt top has a lot of seams, you should take a look at the back of my crumb blocks!

I have this sudden urge to make my dog a quilt hahaha. If it isn't fun you should pick a different hobby. I didn't say perfect....I said fun. And I am with you all the way. Thanks for helping me quilt. I love your channel.

I love the back of the quilt. Very full of character and panache. Perfection has its place, but its not in other people's face. On another note, watching Darlene has made it difficult to watch other quilt channels. They seem either too slick or too dull.
