- Finishing up final touches on the wrecked Miata for something special! We attempted to repair the fiberglass hardtop, but it was a little picky. Looks like we're going to need to just re-fiberglass it!

Definitely should’ve just waited until you got some Bondo-Glass before doing this repair, or just plain fiberglass and resin. When you’re fixing a crack in fiberglass, you should grind out the crack with a dremel or die grinder, and then fill it.
Thats not how Evan likes to do things...As in the "right way"....You should know that by now!!!
The factory tops are smc. You use smc to repair smc.
Fiberglass expands and contracts at different rates than smc.

Dam where was Evan's advice when you really needed it. What Evan says actually does help. I found it my own way before I found Evan's channel. All this advice he gives out really is helpful and yall should spread it out and express it more so others can hear it.

It's awesome that you're giving it a go yourself but just a few tips.
You definitely should have taped the window up to avoid scratching the glass, bondo doesn't hold stuff together so that crack will probably come apart especially with the chassis twist the Miata has. You should cut the crack bigger, drill a few holes either side and use fibreglass so it has something to grip to.
Also you don't get a flat surface using an orbital sander, you should really use a sanding block and go in different directions to get it level.

Finally I’ve been waiting for this vid for ages
A lubricant of some sort will help, or even brake cleaner and heat helps to get the sticky gunk off, we use it for the reflective strips on the side of lorry’s (semis) when replacing them
For the crud on the top, Eraser wheel. This is a MUST order it on amazon, safe on paint, and will take that stuff off. For the Crack, should really get a good quality brand, which is only found at a store that carries those. There is a place called "plasticare" 30 min from me, I get Fiberglass, resins, carbon etc. It works 100X better and bonds better.

Vinegar is good to help with tape residue
Use a dremmel to get the crack more defined before filling
As a lot of people have already pointed out, there are a few things you need to do to properly repair fiberglass cracks, which it sounded like you are aware of already. But always remember, do it right or it twice. For shaping body filler in the future, you can save time using a rasp/cheese grader to remove the bulk, and use sanding blocks(which you may have and just didn't show it) for leveling out. And please invest in some plastic razor blades for removing sticky residue from painted surfaces, that hurt me to watch even if it is being repainted.

Hey guys speaking of shift knobs, the slip on inserts on the carbon fiber shift knob can be tapped to fit on a screw type shifter. Go buy one, freaking love mine.

Love the videos and I hope it doesn't crack again but you should have atleast used fiberglass reinforced bondo. Best option is to re glass it, then use the fiber reinforced stuff. Looks nice though

Wish I would’ve known you needed fiberglass. I work at a company that makes fiberglass for boats and rvs and we’ve had the contract with Chevy since the corvette came out to make the fiberglass for them. I would’ve hooked you up

hey i just watched the widebody focus video and you mentioned no one makes an exhaust for the se. i have an se and theres a company called fswerks that makes two exhausts for the se. they have a quieter stainless steel exhaust and a louder "race" exhaust. i have the race exhaust and i love it it sounds amazing.
