Pro street vega I'm building: 14 point cage, narrowed ford 9 inch rear end, sbc 350 with comp cams Big Mutha Thumpr cam, noisy gear drive, etc etc etc.
Nice ride. I built one in '85 it was a '76 2 dr. wagon. 454 cu. with wheelie bars. Just make sure you point that thing straight, cause thats the way it's going to go! Them short wheel based pricks are a handful to drive.
That's cool I always liked Vega's I had a 76' Cosworth that I wanted to restore but never had the time so I had to sell it. Now I wish I would have kept it. Love the rumble of a V8.
Dude, forget those clowns they aren't worth your time. I grew up in a 76 vega with a 355 wedged in the front. Yours sounds much like it, even the troublesome cold start and choppy idle. great car man, btw I will be running your cam in my 383 shortly. when i get a video of that vega on here , I'll send you a link
I'm still having a minor overheating issue. The transmission is getting fixed this week. Got my exhaust put on the other day. I'll get a video on here soon if this rain will quit. The motor is built to the stock specs of a motor in 1972 so that means 10:1 compression, etc. The only modifications over stock are a high volume oil pump, a bigger cam, and the gear drive. You can really hear the gear drive with my new exhaust.
With parts and all for the motor, trans, and car plus chassis work I probably have close to 20 grand in it. You can build one much much cheaper if you shop around and do most of the work yourself. For a trans it just depends what you want. I wanted a powerglide because that is what most people race with. But a turbo 350 also fits without modification to the trans tunnel and would be best for a daily driver. An s-10 rear end will be ok for a mild motor but a ford 9 inch would be bulletproof.
The idle needs turning up a bit, but other than that...nice car and i like the way it rumpity-rumps ! Vegas are great for modding arent they ?! I like your dash too. But clean up the loose wiring, etc... Regards.
nice vega sounds like at this point it is going to be fast. like to see an undated video. i will check out you channel to see if you have one posted. 20 grand does not go very far these days. check out my vega on youtube. i still have some things to do to it also.
yeah, in case you have never built a hot rod in this day and age. I have 7 grand in chassis work alone. And I have receipts for everything else. It's not like the 70's when you could go to the scrap yard and get a motor for 40 bucks and have machine work done for 50. Unfortunate, but true.
If so much is invested, why a cheesy thumpr cam? So much more power could be made with a better cam. Thumprs are known as a showboat cam, and dyno testing proves it.
@aewrigh haha i bought a 350 4bolt block for 50 bucks from my school... muahahha now since i am in college for a diesel course. im going to try a dirtymay build
7 grand damn, i got a 55 chevy tubbed, 4 link 2 inch dropped front disk brakes all 4 corners and rearend, 12 bolt 35 spline mark williams all for 3500 bucks ,,, i don't feel bad now,
wow! how much money have you sunk into that beast? I also have a couple questions. I'm looking at a 74' vega, all stock 4 cylinder. I'm thinking about putting a 350 ci in it. What size of trasmission should I put in it? I'm kind of new to the whole " hot rod " deal. Also, what kind of rear end should i use? My friend suggested a 80's model chevy s10, but i don't think that is enough. Help please!
man dont think nothing of it at least you have a car... that aint rigged up most these jackasses aint got nothin on it ... and yeah unfortunatly you caint buy "a good moter" for 50 bucks any more... and the parts and laybor to get it done right aint cheap eather... we got about 30-40 in just the moter, trans, suspension and cage... that aint including the body... car looks good man keep going
nice car, sounds great!!! i'm just getting ready to start assembling my engine for my 76 vega wagon, yours has a great "stance" looks real good. it's hard to tell from the video, but, what motor mounts did you use?? v-8 monza??

cool vega man. i have a chevy luv we just built.dont let all the people on here bring you down. they are just jealous
Nice car. Great sound
@TheChocolatecrazy123 big cams tend to need that if you knew anything about cars or engines
if you want to know the specs look up Big Mutha Thumpr on comp cams web site.
Awesome car man!
What’s the cam lift
ok i can smell the exhaust fumes already

Still needs 20 grand in body work, then sell it for 15 grand, but thats just the way hot rodding works. its always a money loss.
Well done, lookin good bro. Sounds sick too. I like how you did that dash. I have a custom dash as well in my Pro Touring GP check it out.
vega makes me think of sega lol nice vega 5*
The idle needs turning up a bit, but other than that...nice car and i like the way it rumpity-rumps ! Vegas are great for modding arent they ?! I like your dash too. But clean up the loose wiring, etc... Regards.

what's that sound at the end? fuel pump?
nice lump what lift is that cam?
@Dredgerwood k man whatever you say
What are the specs of the cam and are you basically just running a 350 with a bigger cam and gear drive?
is this the roller of flat tappet
AWSOME!!! how would you say this cam performs?
is this a flat tappet cam?
Popcorn is ready!
Hows the car running now? Have you seen my vids? Nice car....

Oil pressure looks to be too low, just over 25 pounds at idle.
nice car, sounds great!!! i'm just getting ready to start assembling my engine for my 76 vega wagon, yours has a great "stance" looks real good. it's hard to tell from the video, but, what motor mounts did you use?? v-8 monza??
Sounds nasty!!! Big block?
it's the hydraulic flat tappet version. I heard a motor run with the roller version and it just doesn't sound nearly as good to me.
the roller does sound much better actually, no offense.
Rear tires are too narrow. Looks tubbed. Put the big ones on there.
well? it pulls forward and backward and idles???? AAH OK?? weak
notice your comment got too many negative votes
