Visited Sri Lanka for New years eve, its truly pearl of the Indian ocean with welcoming people. Driving discipline is great, natural beauty is truly wonderful. Some Indians back home are still not sure if its a safe country due to recent hardships, but as a tourist I felt respected everywhere. Will visit again soon !

Sri Lanka's great Ramayana Trail is a pilgrimage Indians should go to at least once in their lifetime. Ashok Vatika, Hanuman temple, Seetha Eliya, Blue water cave, Roomassala mountain, Ravana Palace (Lion's Rock), The Great Rama sethu, Shivam temple in Trinkomalee are some of the significant places to see.

@@mrx-vc6ed Sri Lanka is a year-round destination. So you can visit at any time. But December to February is the peak season for Sri Lanka due to heavy traffic from Western travellers and the hotel rates are relatively high.

I think Sri Lanka went to India before china for hambantota .. India said it's not a profitable project , but china invested . Result was same . Hambantota port is deserted except now Chinese has it to spy on India . I love srilanka . But I think Sri Lanka has done the most damage to India , now Maldives on same path giving Chinese a port even though India saved Maldives from coup twice . I wish India was on another continent .

I feel there should be a free movement of tourists between India and Srilanka. We have regular ferry service. There is a proposal to construct a 23 km sea bridge between India and Srilanka. Let's make best use of these facilities.

Chinese debt trap? I feel sad for those Sri Lankans who believe India is their friend, when almost all the Indians hate Sri Lankans (90% at least), even more than they hate Pakistan. If a Sri Lankan tourist was found in India, the chances that he returns without being hurt is very low. There was one Indian politician I remember and he said he'll erase SL off the map. As a Singaporean, looking from the outside, it's well clear India is not trying to help by building a bridge, but to take over that country and colonize it.
If that happens it would be fun to drive your own car to Sri Lanka

I am in SL now and I have seen it myself how beautiful the country is . But the country is more aligned to the western tourists and so you don't find much Indian cuisine . Also the treatment of local vendors is different for Indians. The local vendors triple the price of items when they see us..this happened in the Dambulla , Anuradhapura area when we tried food from some small stalls. Also the Yala safari for which we were charged 175USD was a waste as the driver was in a hurry to get out. But the other westerner and asian tourists were still inside . So while Indians are expected to come to the country the locals have to be equally fair and not treat us differently as we too spend our hard earned money and expect the best that we paid for
Precisely why I don't go touring other countries. Why go there, spend our money and get insulted in return? Touring India itself will take a life long, so let's explore India.
P.S. I have been to countries in EU and UK on official trips and haven't faced any adverse feelings. But have read enough to not spend my own money to get insulted.

There is luxury tourism in the Maldives but nothing else. The luxury resorts are insulated against ordinary Maldivians and their way of life. If you want that, enjoy! An even more expensive option is Bora Bora in French Polynesia although the travel time is longer.
Sri Lanka has Buddhist sites and the Ramayana trail. And Dutch and British colonial buildings such as Galle fort. I suppose it has middle end as well as high end tourism. Sri Lankan cuisine is similar to Malayali cuisine but the flavor profile is different.

India is the greatest nation to ever exist. Many countries in the West and a few others outside of it like Israel allocate billions for the development of intelligence/ scientific research. First we should have agreements with Sri Lankan coast guards ,indian coast guards and Tamil Nadu fisher men.
The regular arrests and confiscation of their boats should completely stop and have a mutual understanding .
