Wow living in the UAE and this region has taught me the importance of never underappreciating what you have, as one day you'll realize its value when it's no longer present. I miss Sri Lanka, its lush green landscapes and profound spirituality in this video represents just a fraction of the true beauty of my home ❤️🇱🇰
I miss the misty, cool, holy and silent mountain. It permeates a great peace, and sanity to the human Soul. I migrated overseas 44 years ago and miss the beloved and beautiful country of my birth. Jayarajah M.
@@fkn8xSri Lanka is called the land of the Buddha because the teachings of the Buddha have not undergone any change and have sunk deep into the history and culture of the people and the country. It is true that the Buddha was born. But the majority of people in Nepal are Hindus, aren't they? India is also a minority, no other South Asian country has a Buddhist majority. Sri Lanka is the only country that speaks an Indo-Aryan language, has the largest number of relics of the Buddha, and is the only country where the majority of Buddhist people live, with the South Asian ethnic group and culture that the Buddha belonged to.
Best support you can give Sri Lanka is asking your “brothers” not to build thousands of Mosques and stop screaming over loudspeakers every half an hour. It really destroys the peace and also nobody really visits Sri Lanka to see that. Thanks
I'm crying watching this video. As a SL citizen who lived there for 26 years, I have those cherishing memories which Kandalama used to be one of our favorite vacation point. Two years ago I migrated to Canada since the crisis prevailed made everyone the life challenging, even to have a basic meal. But one day I will go back to my mother country and like every other person who's out of country, I wish it would be free of corruption and every person will have a smile on their face❤
I was born in Sri Lanka and grew up until the age of 21, then migrated to another country. Now in my 60s and appreciating the real Sri Lanka. My beautiful memories taking up country train to visit our grandmother every end of the year school holidays. The journey you will never forget. I have travelled all around the world but never experienced that kind beauty. Hope people in Sri Lanka protect this natural beauty forever. Don't make it a concrete city like Western countries.
The same with me, there is not a single day i haven't thought about Sri Lanka, what a beautiful nation and people knows the value when you leave the country specially travel around the world but settled in one place born near city from Kandalama left the country when I was 19 and today I am 67 and to this day my best friends live in Sri Lanka they were classmate from grade 4
Sri Lanka has everything, more than 2500 years of continuing written history, rich culture, thousands of years old buddhist temples, ruins of ancient buildings, forests, wildlife with elephants, leopards, bears, blue whales, crocodiles, etc. and friendly people ❤
The nation was built from migrants who first arrived when it was connected by a land route with the Southern Indian Subcontinent where Dravida speaking peoples live. No human fell from the sky to Sri Lanka to call Sri Lanka belongs to one group people. Modern humans evolved in Africa and moved out of Africa to spread through out the planet (that is the shortest to explain human evolution and spread)
Yes, a lot of people would like to obliterate the fact that Lanka has a Buddhist tradition that runs 26 centuries. And have taken the munificence of Buddhists to their advantage. I guess it helps to play the victim.
Yes now we can see that since the independence in 1948. Yes it is full of Dhamma people are leaving the island en-masses. Just look at the size of the monks and any poor person, that is the greatest dhamma in action, wonderful! Blame the politicians as a scapegoat
A big thank you, Dominique. Excellent Documentary. Being a Sri Lnkan, I became more Proud of my Country. I really appreciate your tireless effort. Please keep it up.
Beautiful... im from sri lanka of course! This video captured the beauty of the temple 100%.. anybody who likes to visit a temple in sri lanka be happy and glad that this video captured everything that you might experience on a real trip to a temple. The vibe the colors everything
One of the last untouched paradises of Asia. I really hope the younger generation realizes how important these traditions are, especially preserving the scriptures with the palm leaves. They cannot be forgotten
I am originally from Sri Lanka, but I have been living in the UK for the past two years with good privileges and perks. While I have come to appreciate the benefits of living in a developed country, I still believe that the goodness I experienced in Sri Lanka is not present in the UK. Sri Lanka has a unique combination of social capital, biodiversity, and kind-hearted people that is hard to find in any other country. This, however, does not mean that Sri Lanka is the best country, nor does it imply that every person there is good. As with any country, there are good and bad people everywhere, and it is not fair to classify countries as good or bad based solely on their development status.
As a Sri Lankan, I've lived here for almost two and a half decades. It's a beautiful country with very hospitable people. Many citizens don't worry too much about many things; they just try to live a simple life. The environment is beautiful, and anyone can live a peaceful life here. However, as we all know, every place has its challenges. Sri Lanka faces corruption in politics, which has greatly harmed the economy and the lifestyle of locals. Many of the younger generation, including myself, want to leave the country because it's challenging to maintain our lives here. But if we can overcome these corrupt politicians and revive our economy, Sri Lanka could once again become the most peaceful and livable island in the Indian Ocean.
Thanks for this nice video. It is the first time I have seen the process of making the ola leaf manuscripts. About the visitors to the Adam’s Peak: never read anywhere that Alexander the Great visited this place. But legend has it that the colonization of the island by Sinhalese started when king Porus’s children from his Greek wife (the daughter of his general who was put in charge of the area he conquered) came with their aides and settled. However there had been a settlement of Ionians dating back to 900 BC inside the ancient capital of Anuradhapura. The remnants have been found 6 meters deep only recently.
Nevertheless, they all are migrants from different eras who settled in the island especially when the Island is connected with the Southern part of the Indian Subcontinent, which was the land route for the migration. There were early migrant settlers in the Island long before the arrival of Vijaya (the so called father of the Sinhala tribe according to Mahawamsa legend) yet again from the Indian Subcontinent.
@@justaperson1769 yes some from India (like my self and wife) and mostly from Mangalore etc.. But Sri Lanka had indigenous people dating back to 48k years ago discovered in the Fahien cave. The material discovered gave evidence to the last magnetic pole flip, too!.
