Texturas75 There was another guitarist that played in the band before they got their record deal and left shortly after recording started on their first album. Rivers decided to scrap whatever guitar parts had been recorded and re recorded the lead and rhythm parts himself. Brian Bell was accepted into the band half way through recording and the band deemed it not enough time to learn to play the songs properly.
Thanks for the answers. Sorry, I made the 2nd question without reading your full reply, that's why I erased it afterwards. I understand now. But does Rivers still play all the lead live?
This song is really hard to pull off live. My band tried it and its insane to try and make it sound like the studio version. This is a great performance, very different from the studio version but really great as well
@@harrisontownsend910 I'm a nerd and I play guitar, and also a bunch of other shit that could be considered cool, i did taekwondo I did boyscouts, I did band :/ And i play guitar and piano in my off time and trombone in band

I'm gonna be this guy, I hate being this guy... but damn. They don't make 'em like this anymore. Maybe there's still good music (of course there is), but you won't ever replicate this kind of thing. I miss it.
You’re absolutely right but with any type of music there’s always one of a kind genres and sub genres. Weezer is just one of those bands that hit the 90s sweet spot
Holy shit sometimes when you're (I'm) listening to the albums you forget what these guys were - KIDS! And they fucking rocked the shit out this, both on the album and off.
this guy is a genius, the hair, the glasses, unique in a lifetime. well thanx to kurt for using the same hair cut and same glasses years before this guy. nobody do stuff like this anymore.
MAN...gotta apologize to MYSELF for missing this band at its height. Lyric tribute to Holly and other pop cult icons is subtle and the sonics make the legless dance. But I DON'T CARE ABOUT THAT.
@ColorsBright Correction: The "live" versions sound fierce and explosive. Also, I believe this is from 120 mins. This and the Sweater song were played that night. The Sweater Song made it on the 120 mins live cd (which freaking rules!). I wish they could have put both songs on it.
Im saying as an artistic standpoint, they did quit. They were this beacon for hope that the underdogs could one day get love. When they went on hiatus, it was put to a halt. Then they come back and release Green Album and sound totally different. And Rivers is saying stupid shit like, "its evil spirits time". Thats when they quit. When they threw away their image to try and look cool.
the bowl cut creates the magic of weezer
Nothanks WHY IS THIS TRUE!?!?!
Don't forget playing your guitar in a 45 degree angle counts too
JuaffreBlumpkins well to be fair no one was idolizing nazis shooting up a historic black church on the internet back then
foredamusic I mean they are. Like there’s proof of it. Unless you’re too much of a snowflake to handle facts that go against your views or something.
@foredamusic lol I've seen a bunch of people idolizing dylan roof and school shooters. Literally just google tcc or true crime community lmao
I cant believe they played it this badassly fast. Not even during Green Album did they play as energized as this.
That's not fast at all lol
I've noticed that sometimes live versions are tighter/faster than album versions 'cause the band has had way more time to practice together
@@waycnf7229 It is, at least faster than the studio version
Well, that's one way to put it
i love the drumming at 2:18

Even when there are two guitarists here, the singer plays lead guitar... he's the fucking genious of this band!
All the guitar parts you hear on the blue album were played by Rivers.
Why was that? Weezer was a trio then?

No, he wasn't bad. He's credited on the album for writing the accoustic intro to My Name Is Jonas.

They rarely play it so fast too
London Bones It was because of MTV's time constraints
+James McGill Seems easy when I'm singing it at home over and over, driving my wife crazy.
if you need a studio to make a song sound right, is that a good thing???
Look at all mainstream music today and answer that question for yourself bro
Oooo eeeee Oooooo i look just like Velma Dinkley Ohh ohh and your Scooby dooby doo....
This Weezer = best Weezer
It was the bowl haircut
You mean The line-up then yes
I prefer 2001 weezer
It's the classic lineup.
Blue album Weezer is definitely the best Weezer.

Needs to but nerds aren't made as cool anymore.

Who’s this Rivers guy we’re talking about? That’s clearly Velma from Scooby Doo
1:23 his voice is so good there
I was thinking the same thing
I didn't know Velma played guitar
They sound like a typical first band from some skilled teenagers, but they are great at getting that sound correctly.
wait.. is MTV playing music?
Those were the days man...
pat is a very underrated drummer IMO. he's like jimmy chamberlins nerd little brother.
Pretty simplistic drumming

Jimmy Chamberlin is god
He’s a much better guitarist than he is drummer.
Agreed. A lot of drummers “over-drum” songs.
Everyone commenting on how Rivers looks, if you've listened to Weezer since 94 you'd remember he looked this way in the Sweater Song Video.

They played it extra fast in an attempt to get to the song's climax before the credits were over at 1 minute 30 seconds. :)
Oo ee oo I look just like DEE DEE RAMONE!!! :P
they play it as fast as he would too
THEYre singing like the ramones too
definitive live performance of this song
sounds so good fast like this
Yeah, but it makes it into a quick little diddy, still better the original tempo imo. This was a needed rendition though.
i really like the added "woah" during the last chorus.
I didn't know a coconut could rock so hard
Rivers looks like Drake from Drake and Josh with that fucking haircut jesus christ
Maybe Drake looked like Rivers
DohanJoe07 maybe

Rivers Cuomo reminds me of Eric ( Topher Grace ) from " That '70s show " .
Lol

For some reason that really simple drum fill after the solo hits hard every time
Classic Weezer, love this performance, raw and original
They are playing like they don't care about playing the song right.
they don't care what they say about them anyway!
It's because MTV gives you a short ammount of time to play a song
It's called Blinking it
One of the few bands that sound the same on stage and on cd's.
The original hipsters. Lol
I remember finding the music video for this song on the windows 95 install disk as an Easter egg. That and the bad ass hover craft game lol.
duck9191 haha that's dope
RighteouslyWicked well rivers kinda looks like a young nerdy bill gates so...
Hover was awesome
That was a spectacular performance. Seriously, was very close the album. I never knew they used to be this good live.
i didn't know rick moranis can play guitar.
