- Weezer surprised us tonight by covering this tune from Foster the People...probably for the first time :)
Recorded @ OC Fair Pacific Amphitheatre on 8/4/11.
(And for those who have inquired about putting your link here, no thank you...I just want people to enjoy the video.) - บันเทิง
The fact that he's reading the lyrics off a piece of paper makes it that much better 😂
Ella Wakeman Facts
Ella Wakeman Why does that make it better? DO tell
James Kennedy just because
+James Kennedy Cause it's Rivers, duh.
+Ella Wakeman I don't why, but he "reads" lyrics quite often at his concerts. I think its just a gimmick. I believe he is well aware of the "image" he is projecting by appearing to read the lyrics. In other words, he thinks its cute ;)
It's hard to imagine a bigger compliment to a band than to have other major bands performing your song.
EGarrett01 i know, but it would be better if rivers actually memorized the lyrics
hes 40, and he does this all the time
It's actually really hard to remember lyrics. Most of the time you know lyrics by heart it's because you've listened to a song many, many times and sung along to it many many times. If you WROTE the song, you never sing along to it. You ARE it. So it's harder. Especially since a lot of the quirks to a recording that signal to you where you are in the song can change when being performed live.
Also, when you sing along to a track, you're singing along to someone else who is leading the track. When it's you yourself performing, you'd on't have that.
True sign of respect
Pumped up kicks one of the biggest song in the past 8 years
This could definitely pass for a weezer song
Kelly Nguyen yes I am not the only one thank you
Kelly Nguyen I was thinking the same thing.
weezer sings about mass school shootings a lot then i assume? this song is about the columbine shooting if you didnt know...
+MrClockwork
Listen to "Lullaby for Wayne".
The lyrics are talking about a school shooter.
+MrClockWork It actually isnt, go look at the foster the people song story video they explain what the song really was about. The gun was a metaphor.
Rivers as he's reading the lyrics paper: *hold up*
Lol
This is actually what I'm thinking lmao
Should’ve recorded this for the Teal Album.
Would've been better than the majority of what that album was.
Yes!
I was hoping they would since they announced the album, just a bit disappointed.
Avery Johnson teal album is fire
@@averyjohnson138 the entirety of the real album are great. I Mean they aren't that much different from the originals, but that also makes it great. Because the originals are all amazing.
Weezer covers pumped up kicks? Say it ain't so.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
T hats it...I'm headed to Africa after reading that comment.
LMMFDO 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I see what you did there..... sneaky sneaky
xD
Probably just me but he looked a lot like Johnny Knoxville on that stage
haha i can see it too
haha i can see it too
haha i see it too
i dont understan how you have 110 subs and no videos? is there like a secret button where your profile picture turns into a video?
diego carmona I'm just as confused. I have no idea why I have that many subscribers.
This is actually a great cover tbh
I love it so much
thx for being honest douche
Are u calling me a douche bc I said I love the fucking cover
This is a shitty song about the Columbine High School massacre and all the following shoot ups. Written from thr mind of the murderer. Sad that they made any money off this. How long till this inspires the next one ? Songs about kids killing kids. Sad. See its not the gun doing the deed. Its the kids who are being indoctrinated by ths kind of poisonous catchy music.
Why are kids shootng up schools? Because they are already troubled, This crap just lights the fuse. Its a very catchy, yet shitty tune.
Heywood Gillette Mi You don't understand the song do you? He specifically wrote this song to spark conversation and controversy about gun violence. This song doesn't encourage school shootings. That is an absurd claim to make.
It's because they switched songs. Weezer sang Pumped Up Kicks and FTP sang Say It Ain't So.
Earlier this year they did a similar thing with Toto, fyi (but you probably already knew that)
Fuck the pope?
@@BlainBoy39 no, foster the people smh
@@brittonkitten fuck the pope
But Mark Foster didn't read any lyrics text
What proves the fact that Rivers is an adorable dork is the fact that he has the lyrics right in his hands.
Totalled
What I absolutely love about this is the fact that it's obviously a cover, but it still has that authentic Weezer sound.
Rivers is so dorky it's adorable
he looks like a stepdad trying to be good to his wife's kids lmao
its the glasses bro.. his that one "nerdy lookin guy" that's really a mean fucker...
"nerd rock" ;)
No he isn't. The dude is a straight up anxiety filled nerd. You can tell even in interviews
but he fucks. *HARD*
So I was watching this interview of Foster, where he mentioned that.. 10 years before this live cover, he actually met the Weezer frontman at a party and played him an instrumental piece that he was working on (not this song).. they had a great chat and Rivers shared some of his song writing knowledge with foster. Then Foster acknowledged this live cover and said that it was a big moment in his life to have his song performed by Weezer.
I wish they would have actually recorded this

It will convert to mp3 you can download
Would've fit nicely on The Teal Album :/
this song is so good to begin with but the rock sound that weezer brings to it makes it sound great especially with the guitar solo at the end.
I bet 30 people at this event thought it was foster the people.
I'm sure of it.
lol
true Mark in a costume hahaha I'd be laughing
Right? There's always people like that in concerts, it reminds me of the time when I went to a Placebo show, and when they finished, some girl said to her boyfriend: That girl was so charismatic, I loved the show! And he said: Girl...? That was Brian Molko... :D
Reminds me of a time I went to a bob seger concert and he did a cover of Metallica’s turn the page
As a fan of both foster the people and weezer, I don't think I've ever seen anything more beautiful
and night in the woods I see :)
This was beautiful! 💙
I bet many people were thinking "Holy shit, i didnt know weezer sang that song"
I love upbeat songs with dark lyrics. Also dark music with upbeat lyrics. When it is pulled off it can make a really great combo.
Likewise. Also intense, heavy, music with lyrics that are down to earth, everyday types of issues.
There's also music that has intensely different styles in the same song, or performances that don't match what you'd expect of the performers too. Hanabie are great for that, was so much fun when I clicked a suggested video to watch 'We love sweets'.
It's also amazing how long some songs can be around with people(intentionally or not) oblivious to the lyrics. 'Born in the USA' is still used as a rah-rah song
@@DoubleMonoLR I legitimately enjoyed that song by Hanabie. I had no idea who they were until now.
Agree ❤️🐩
personally, I think Rivers reading the lyrics here makes the performance better! it makes them feel like you don't have to be perfect to be in a band!
Love the crossover.... Foster the People covers Say it Ain't So. =)
thats the way! dont be ashamed to take the lyrics on stage XD i love how quirky and unprofessional they kinda look but theyre having a ton of fun and thats what is really important and theyre still doing their thing sooo friggin awesome
+Laura Appel love that tattoo sleeve btw
+Laura Appel true
Thats
Weezer Karaoke
Agreed
I like the guy in the beginning going: " Really?! Haha!"
Julius K. IKR ? Lol
then he yells “OHH- KAYYY”
So bad ass. His voice is very unique. Always loved it.
I was smiling like an idiot the whole time I was watching the video.
N DelaPaz me too! 😆
Same😅
Don't gotta look badass to be a rock star. Love these guys.
I like this version not bad at all.
gosh love this song, No other bands have the balls to sing this besides weezer and Foster the people
+STAR FAWKES69 *Cough* Panic! at the Disco *Cough*
P!ATD would make it sound fucking horrible though, like they did to Bohemian Rhapsody. Brendon uses way too much vibrato
Evan B LMAO
Somewhere along the line weezer has become iconic and legendary.
go weezer..coolest geek....thumbs up
Whenever I’m sad weezers silliness makes me happy
Gotta' love Weezer!
Great to see him reading the lyrics as they're pulling it off.
I wish I was in Weezer.
Tfw the half Japanese girl in your class rejects you
You just made me lol
Talented, he's actually reading the lyrics as he's singing it 🤟
I want a studio version of this so bad
Love this song, but these guys made me love it more, been playing it over and over. Just pure fun.
My god It's Johnny Knoxville doing pumped up kicks reading from a lyrics sheet like he was dared to. Hahahahaha! Oh wow.. Weezer are just all the awesome.. all of it.
Weezer will always be legendary.
Why is this making me so happy!
Rivers is crazy, and cute and so happy!! Makes me happy so much to see him! My idol!! My dream!!! 😍😍😍😍
My favorite band covering my favorite song... wow
I actually kinda love how he's reading from the lyric sheet. Its amazing how much it sounds like a song weezer would have put out way back during their height.
man I love this version!! great energy
Mind is officially blown. Fantastic.
I CANT BELIEVE IT! WEEZER, is one big band! and they're doing a cover! and this song by Foster The People is indeed one of my current favorites!
both versions sound great
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!!
nice. thanks for sharing this gem.
Rivers is my nerd god! I would buy this record. His hip shaking at 3:45 😂.
I watched that part at least 10 times 😭
weezer should have written this song
greeeenmachine Honestly the cover sounds better than the Original
So beautiful
Weezer
1:20 I didn't know Markiplier played the bass
Cool Cool Didn't know either lol
Cool Cool I was thinking the exact same thing.
Ha
Now we know what he does between vids and cons
+Cool Cool Markkiplier has blonde hair?
Weezer is perfect to cover this song! AWESOME! I totality buy a studio recording od weezer version
I owe these guys so much.
Totally awesome great post thanks
Finally, a Weezer song where Rivers DOESN’T play guitar.
"Oh really?! Ok!" pretty great crowd reaction when this started heh
LOVE this!!!
I can’t stop coming back and watching this
Wow
Weezer always do amazing covers :)
Also, if anyone's interested look up this song in bardcore.
"all ye other bully-rooks with ye buskin boots, better run better run outrun mine arrow"
Thanks for posting this! I was at the show :)
This is awesome!
"I don't care what they say about me, any way, I don't care about that"
TH-cam recommendations in 2019. Who else?
Aircorn nobody cares
Granted I have been down a fairly arcane music rabbit hole. This song is finding Diamond Ore at the bottom of a cave.
Love Love this cover! Weezer will always and forever be one awesome band!
Weezer are proof that even Nerds, Geeks, Dorks, Social Misfits, Punks, Rejects, Losers and Outcasts can rock hard and still look cool and have credibility on stage or in real life 😍😎😇🌈🌅 Everyone deserves a chance to express themselves without judgement. Thats what being a real musician, entertainer or artists is all about.
Love this song
"Pumped Up Kicks"
Robert's got a quick hand
He'll look around the room
He won't tell you his plan
He's got a rolled cigarette
Hanging out his mouth
He's a cowboy kid
Yeah he found a six-shooter gun
In his dad's closet, boy, in a box of fun things
I don't even know what
But he's coming for you, yeah he's coming for you
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run, outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run, faster than my bullet
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run, outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run, faster than my bullet
Daddy works a long day
He be coming home late, he's coming home late
And he's bringing me a surprise
'Cause dinner's in the kitchen and it's packed in ice
I've waited for a long time
Yeah the sleight of my hand is now a quick-pull trigger
I reason with my cigarette
Then say, "Your hair's on fire, you must've lost your wits, yeah?"
Run, run, run, run, ru-ru-ru-run, run, run
Ru-ru-ru-run, run, run, run
Ru-ru-ru-run, run, run, run, run, run
[Whistling]
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run, outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run, faster than my bullet
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run, outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run, faster than my bullet
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run, outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run, faster than my bullet
Pretty cool
This song always reminded me of the Drew Carey show theme. “All the little chicks with the crimson lips say Cleveland rocks”
That was AWESOME!
One of my favorite bands covering one of my favorite songs
at first i was like "is that johnny knoxville???"
Weezer is the best band tbh
Outstanding.
I love me some Weezer. It's so great how they covered this awesome song, and with the words on some Peice of paper. CLASSIC! It's pretty great how Foster the People thanked them by covering a Weezer song the next week I think it was,I can't remember the name of that song, but I call it the step father song and they did it SO well,I mean,if I didn't know better I would have thought it WAS Weezer. AWESOME! 😊❤️
0:09 Oh, really?
Okayy
Connor Buchanan Lol.
What is this a crossover episode?
SO AWESOME
I love this!!! I wouldn't think this would ever happen
*I really thought it was gonna be the Hannah Montana theme song at first...*
To be honest I think it KINDA sounds better than the original
Nah it def does lol
No
Godamn this cover is awesome!! 👏🙌
My favorite band
They put zero effort into this performance, and it still sounds just as good or better than the original. Love it.
=w= rules
Just pointing out the obvious, I guess.
I know, right? At first I was like, what the hell is he doing reading the lyrics? But the entire performance was still awesome. I irony in this is that Foster the People always cover Weezer while on tour.
This was rehearsed
afhevh Still a good performance nonetheless
Pete W I don't think it's necessarily better than the original, it's just more pop-rock and less quirky than the original. It makes it go down smoother, but I still think the original is better.
JazGalaxy ^^^^
I feel like you are right
Both versions have there better parts but the FTP one just sounds so edgy that it has to win
weezer shouldnt be allowed to cover any song..... they make them sound better that the original :)
Especially pop songs about school shootings this is way better then the original
Hahaha. Nice comment.
ha ha agreed
Except Radiohead
I Love Weezer but I'm wondering why he didn't know the lyrics well if they really liked the song. There's not many words to remember. I knew em by heart the second or third time I listened to the song because I couldn't stop playing in my head. It's a song that just sticks with you if you really like it, you know? Love Radiohead exceptionally...
I freakin loved this concert. My favorite to date.
Uff... why did it take me so long to find this master piece
That one guy that was like "OH REALLY?!"
Why bother honestly why bother
Rivers Cuomo is the most adorable person all over the world.
This is amazing
GREAT COVER, SOOO NATURAL HAHAH .. feel the vibes here
This reminds me of Panic!'s cover of the same song!! Bren's reading the lyrics too while singing xD
Stahp
I'm so glad I'm not the only Panic! and Weezer fan
must be happy about the tour then?
+DohanJoe07 it was an amazing tour
The show in San Diego was swanky
O PAI DELA
Great cover!!
Thanks for putting this up. For sure I would never think of Weezer being a "cover band" but its pretty cool they did this.
If I saw Weezer cover this song I would become immediately concerned for my well-being
i like this better than the original.
Fabulous! 👍🙏🏻
Awesome! I like both versions.
