Good evening! I'd like to say a very special thank you this Sunday evening to everybody for helping the channel reach 4,000 subscribers! It's an amazing milestone that I'm so happy to have seen your support to reaching, and rest assured that over the next week we'll have a couple of very special videos to celebrate :) Now, as for Kirkby Lonsdale, here's a bit of bonus info on the history of the town's name. We mentioned how the 'Kirkby' part relates to Viking settlement in the region, but the 'Lonsdale' actually refers to the Lune Valley, which runs from Kirkby Lonsdale all the way towards Lancaster, where the river becomes tidal before entering the Irish Sea. Also known as the River 'Loyne', the 'Lons' part of Lonsdale comes from the river, and the 'dale' part is the northern English word for a valley!
I'm from Southern Illinois, USA and I love watching your videos, I think towns, buildings etc in the UK are very interesting compared to ours in the states 🙂
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos - there are so many fascinating towns right across the UK, all with an amazing amount of history and heritage packed in that many might not know about! I've never been to the US myself, though there are certainly some places that absolutely fascinate me - I'd love to make some walking videos across the pond one day too :) Thank you so much for watching and for your very kind words!

What a lovely place to start out the morning! I'm sure the coffee is as delicious as the town is gorgeous, Kirkby Lonsdale really is an absolute delight :) Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video!
Thank you so much! Kirkby Lonsdale is indeed a beautiful place, from Ruskin's View to the Devil's Bridge and those gorgeous old lanes in the town centre too :) Thank you very much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - Kirkby Lonsdale is a delightful town, and the atmosphere is absolutely wonderful too :) Thank you very much for watching and for your kind comments!
I regularly drive along the A65 to the Lake District. The road runs along the edge of the town I didn't realise the town was so interesting. I think I will have to park there and go for a walk around.
It certainly is a fascinating town! There's a lot to see in and around Kirkby Lonsdale, and if you're a regular A65 commuter - I'd also recommend a visit to the delightful village of Clapham a little further south, it's a small but wonderful hidden gem! Thank you so much for watching! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video :)
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - Kirkby Lonsdale is an absolutely gorgeous place with so much riveting history, and those views are just spectacular too :) Thank you for watching and your very kind words as always - I hope you have a great day too!
It is indeed! Given its relatively isolated position and small population, it's amazing just how much history there is in Kirkby Lonsdale :) Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video!
That takes me back. When I was in Yorkshire in 2013, a friend who lives in Lancashire picked me up on his motorcycle and took me to a bunch of beautiful places. This is one of them, and there was a bike meet there at the time. The Ribblehead Viaduct was another place he introduced me to. Thanks for the memories!
Wow! That's so cool to hear - I've never seen Devil's Bridge when all the bikers are there - though a journey around this region on the back of a motorcycle must have been really spectacular, the scenery alone is jaw-dropping in places as I'm sure you'll know - especially as you head all the way up towards the Ribblehead Viaduct :) Thank you so much for watching as always - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and that it brought back some nice memories of that great trip!
@@LetsWalkUK What you just added was the history. So much I didn't know about this place. I just heard from you that it was called Devil's Bridge, and the story behind it. I thank you for that.
Thanks for uploading this video and congratulations on reaching 4000 subscribers. I stopped off in Kirby Lonsdale, last summer (by accident) on the way from the Yorkshire Dales to the Lake District. Absolutely loved the place.
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video - Kirkby Lonsdale is an absolutely lovely place, really quite serene yet with spectacular scenery all around it, and in easy reaching distance of both the Dales and the Lakes! What's not to like? Thank you very much for watching and for your kind words - keep up your own videos, I do enjoy watching them when I get a chance :)
we used to ride from knottingley up to devils bridge on the bikes,a great ride and as you say the numbers on a weekend were staggering, a very nice and informative vid.
That's quite a ride all the way from Knottingley! I guess it just goes to show just how popular Devil's Bridge is with bikers - and no wonder why, it's a gorgeous spot, and I'm sure there's always a great atmosphere at the meet :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
Marvellous, went there in 2017 on the way to the Lakes, you've shown me a lot more, thank you. When I was there, the market square was being used as a film set for a period drama set in Cornwall, made me laugh. The Swinemarket makes me think of many a village in Trás-os-Montes (beyond the mountains) the northeastern province of Portugal.
Ha ha that's interesting to hear - Kirkby Lonsdale certainly has the quaint edge that can double for a Cornish village, it must have been cool to see the filming! I don't know of Trás-os-Montes as you mention, though it's certainly a unique comparison with Kirkby Lonsdale :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video and that you got the chance to see some more of the town you once visited!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and that it might have encourage you to visit Kirkby Lonsdale, something I would thoroughly recommend if you're in the area. Of course, there are so many places to visit in the North - so you've got a lot to look forward to! Thank you very much for watching - best of luck with the move :)
