    Nice walk in the village of Clapham on a sunny day. I enjoyed it very much. It's very beautiful and historical. I like the history lessons you gave. Your walks are always wonderful and interesting. I like all the towns, villages, and cities. You've been too. Hope to see more soon. Have a great day greetings from Canada 😀

    Good evening! I'd like to say a big thank you to everybody for over 2,500 subscribers! It's been a record-breaking week for the channel, and I'm very very grateful for all your support - it really helps me make more exciting video walks for you to enjoy :)
    Just to correct one piece of information in the video at around 17:54, the Estate in Clapham was actually only established in the 19th century, a few decades after the Farrers first settled in the village in the 18th century - apologies for the small error :)

    Who would have thought Clapham station is up in Yorkshire?
    Try telling that to Londoners 😁
    So nice and poster picture like, thanks for sharing 👍

      Absolutely! It's quite the anomaly - though Yorkshire's Clapham certainly is quite a few worlds away from London's, in more ways than one :)
      Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!

      It really is a great building - and right at the heart of the village too. Plus, with all that history behind it and still a favourite with locals and visitors, The New Inn should stand in gorgeous Clapham for many years to come :)
      Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!

    Thank you once again for a splendid film. It’s many years since I visited Yorkshire, and I did not know this very attractive village. It seems so unspoilt and quiet. The sights and sounds were a joy - the birds, the rushing water and the crunch of footsteps on gravel. As a person who is now housebound, I do find that watching your films is like an outing for me. I look forward to seeing more, and save them up as treats.

      Thank you so much! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed the video - I too didn't know of Clapham before the day I visited it, but it's a gorgeous hidden gem and a beautifully serene place like few others in the modern world :)

      Thank you so much! I'm really looking forward to visiting Clitheroe - and Kendal I haven't made plans to go to yet, but I'll certainly put it on my list of destinations this summer :) If they're anywhere near as striking as Clapham then that will certainly make my day!
      Thank you so much for watching and for the suggestion - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!

    There is another Clapham village, about 4 miles up the road from me in Bedford where I relocated to from M/Boro in 1983. Up until the (inevitable) developments rising up around the rural locations around Bedford Clapham, I'd say was smaller even than the Clapham in your delightful video. It has a manor house hotel and a few hostelries and a number of small-ish stores, but the locals are now literally only minutes away by car to the larger supermarkets dotted around.The one advantage of living in Bedford is that it's just 40 to 50 minutes by train into London which is 52 miles south of us.And of course house prices here are significently cheaper than in the capital. Going back to the Clapham in your film, you mention the Garth Hall estate. I have a vague memory of a waterfall named Garth Hall Falls. Unless I've somehow invented this in my fertile mind, though I don't think it's a fake memory.

    • @LetsWalkUK
      @LetsWalkUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know of any Garth Hall Falls, but it's certainly possible that it's out there in the country somewhere :) I must visit the Bedford Clapham some day too - make a whole series about the different Claphams in the country :)
      Thank you so much for watching as always - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!

    • @popazz1
      @popazz1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LetsWalkUK ... I'm thinking maybe it was Hallgarth Falls which probably bear no relation to Garth Hall, lol. Though, as I say, it may well be a created memory. Ho-hum. I am 60 now, these things happen!

    The day chosen for this video had a special light. At times, as views of and from the brokken bridge at 6.18 , 6.50, 7.00, look inspired by Constable or Gainsbourgh.

      Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! Indeed the light shining through the trees over Clapham Beck onto the Brokken Bridge really looked beautiful on this evening - it seems I was very lucky to visit Clapham on this day :)

    I thought it was Clapham, London!! When it said village, I was wondering that! 😂😂

    • @LetsWalkUK
      @LetsWalkUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'll be honest I stumbled across the village on a larger trip in the Dales, originally only knowing London's Clapham too. But I was so pleasantly surprised on visiting here out of curiosity - it's the complete opposite of the London district but so, so pretty :)
      Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video!

    Lovely video but you don't make any mention of the village's most famous resident, Alan Bennett. Perhaps you were just being discreet.

    • @LetsWalkUK
      @LetsWalkUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd like to say that I was being discreet but I must say that I didn't actually know that :) Much of my research was based on material provided by Clapham village - so perhaps they are the ones being discreet...
      Thank you for pointing that out though - and thank you very much for watching, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!

    Nice video but you make two mistakes when you show us where Clapham is on the map.
    First you say it is on the eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales - it’s on the western edge.
    Secondly you say it is 20 miles west of Lancaster - it is east of Lancaster.
