2 people talking in a diner is my favorite euphoria episode. and i am suprised that this was written by the same person responsible for euphoria s2 and the idol... blows my mind 😂😂
I'm glad you guys are doing the special episodes. I think both of these specials have the best writing in Euphoria compared to the two seasons of the show.
The daughter witnessed him beating her mother. I think I forgive the child for resenting a father she feels she should look up to. It's totally up to her when/if she decides to forgive him.
Oh my god, I’m so glad u guys are reacting to Euphoria. Zendaya and Hunter also had a hand in writing / directing (not so sure) these two special episodes. Also, after the credits, the cast does some commentary.
This episode will always be incredibly special to me. While the root cause was different (C-PTSD caused by witnessed and experienced violence throughout my childhood) what Rue says here about not planning to be around that long... that was me at her age. I've never, ever seen that mindset described so accurately anywhere else - just the abject sorrow and complete numbness interspersed, and the absolute certainty of knowing you have no intention to stay alive for much longer... it's just brutal. And on the flip side, even after the suicidal intent goes away, there's contending with the fucked up horrible shit you did when you were at rock bottom or not caring about the consequences. I'm 24 now and still cleaning up the messes my teenage self created, still trying to figure out how to backtrack through all the "life steps" I skipped back then because I spent all of my adolescence not planning to make it here. It's so strange looking back on that version of me now as an adult who's still a mess, but has been in treatment and finally WANTS to live?! It's just so wild. I was very much still in Rue's shoes the first time I watched this special and Ali's words - that the thought of maybe being a good person, is what keeps him trying to be a good person - hit me so unbelievably hard. Euphoria isn't without flaws, but THESE moments alone make it a masterpiece.
Facts. I don't understand how people can refer to this show as problematic. People really just watch one or two scenes and conclude that the show glorifies vices, which is clearly so wrong. It's a masterpiece because there's really no other show that goes into such issues like this especially from a teenage perspective. Very well written and shot.
@georgebush67 Yep. It's definitely not flawless and no it's not always 100% realistic... but it never presented itself as such! It's cinematic storytelling, not a documentary. And it's very stylized, truly going right at the BIG differences of growing up completely with technology like Gen Z has. And the parts it gets REAL about are real as fuck and Zendaya + supporting cast portray the pain with brutal accuracy. I can't even fathom truly WATCHING this show in its entirety and walking away just writing it off as problematic, stupid, etc. If anything, if I was going to sum it up I'd say Euphoria is about pain. Pain, the lengths people will go to try and escape it, and how it will destroy you entirely if you can't find a way to face it without destructive coping mechanisms like drugs. I'm so sad trying to think of where season 3 will go after the news about Angus... ☹️
@@callielayneherring5888 I totally agree, each character seems to have some sort of trauma or pain from their childhood or their past they're trying to escape or evade. They do this in different ways, and eventually also suffer more pain with brief relief from the consequences of their actions. This also affects those around them. "Life can bring much pain, but there are so many ways to deal with this pain, choose wisely" that's a J Cole lyric that sums up the show, I think.
This is my favourite episode of the whole series. I'm really not a crier when watching shows/movies (I mean, ever), and this really hit me. The last 10 mins will live in my mind forever.
this episode makes me cry every time, and I just decided to get sober, I've made it the longest I have in years, this is perfect timing, amazing reaction ❤
@@georgebush67 why did you phrase it that way tho? him being a former/clean addict just means that he knows what he's talking about. The best writers in the world couldn't come up with something like this without the experience. Sam isn't a "good writer" because of his experiences, he's a "good writer" because he knows how to effectively use his experiences to create/tell a coherent story that people can relate and connect with.
@@georgebush67 Eh good writer is a stretch. Most episode have been him and another writer or someone else writing. His latest project "The Idol" was mostly written by him and The Weeknd and that shit flopped hard.
This is what I wish we could see more of in Euphoria. Real conversations about serious stuff that allows the actors to showcase their talent. Not saying it has to be like this all the time but I wish we got more of it esp. in S2. I personally thought Rue, Lexi and Maddy where the only ones with a good storyline in S2.
It’s not just the writing the actors write a lot of their script that’s why it’s so good and not to mention the level of acting these actors are acting at is insane already
Man this episode was like a free therapy session. Probably my favorite episode of Euphoria. Colman Domingo’s talent is out of this world I could watch/listen to him read a phone book.
I've watched this episode so many times and never ever fail to cry during it. I just appreciate Ali and Rue's relationship so much, this was just perfect. From Rue's perspective, she feels betrayed because she's not the type of person to just casually hook up. She's really ignorant of the fact that Jules hasn't committed to her. Her inexperience with dating was proof because she really thought she and Jules were together. After all, they made out all night. I'm glad Ali is explaining it all to her because she really doesn't know. Also, Jules is not totally innocent she was purposely pushing Rue away. She was hot and cold in so many moments confusing Rue. In the Halloween episode, Jules was going through a lot but she unfairly took it out on Rue. They both did things wrong in their relationship/friendship so I'm glad this and the next episode explains both sides.
This is way off topic but I’d like to see when you guys will get deeper into the more serious episodes of Buffy. Cuz I see you can have these in depth discussions.
It’s Soo crazy that I can connect a family member to this entire scene alone and just cry even tho I feel like they arnt family to me anymore it’s honestly so sad
Rue calling him out on his platitudes about purpose is one of my fave things. Faith-based programs don't help as much as the public perception of them would have you believe (just look at the rate of people who use again)
Jules talking to the therapist about emotional issues for an hour, then being sassy with the dad, i honestly could care less😂 But Rue and Ali- A middle aged man waxing philosophy with a 16 year old girl retained my attention 😂
after those special episodes, everything went downhill. euphoria s1 was decent, the specials were outstanding and s2 is just sam levinson letting it all get to his head
Love you guys and the reaction, but just to correct Ali's claim (and Navi's kinda judgmental statement about 'I wonder why') note that the new Muslims in the US are about about 70% to 30% men to women. Not 'very few' but in any case, this was a well written episode. You still cool peeps though Navi.
The more I watch this show, the more therapy i think nate needs www.patreon.com/thenormies

he let one good season go to his head and thought that he could write anything and people would absolutely love it. He was very wrong.
A thought goes out to all the people who skipped them or are unaware that these specials exist
Where can you find these episodes?
Damn rip Angus Cloud 😢 the show won't be the same without him
I still remember how excited Normies were about him visiting their hometown. He is a legend!
Yes it will his character was arrested at the end of S2
I'm glad you guys are doing the special episodes. I think both of these specials have the best writing in Euphoria compared to the two seasons of the show.
RIP Angus Cloud.. you will be missed
This is probably the best episode of Euphoria.

This hits home now RIP Angus Cloud

Coleman Domingo is really good in this episode, no wonder he got an Emmy nomination

Sam was an addict that is one of the reasons why the writting is so good.
Or he's just a really good writer, that scene wasn't just about addiction, give the man his flowers.
"He's a good writer because he's an addict" c'mon that's just wrong

This was such a performance of acting, writing and directing. Sam is the main writer for Euphoria and the character of Rue is based on his life story.

Ali was on the phone with his other daughter by the way not his ex wife. She put his grandson on the phone too.
