These machines are just a marvel of engineering and are stunning to observe below decks ! WOW !

I agree, I was amazed by the experience. It was impressive to see how immaculately clean the HAL engineering crew maintain everything. Videos of some other cruise lines' engine rooms show oil stains, dirty rags, maintenance supplies, etc. littered all over the place.

I’m writing this halfway through the video. There must be a fair amount of redundancy built in. Plus a huge array of spare parts to service all this equipment. Love looking at this operation. My father was a mechanical engineer so as a child I got to see all this mechanical at work. I think I spotted a milling machine in the workshop prior to going into the control room. As a child I would sit and watch my father working on a milling machine making parts for a car he was restoring on the weekends.

I think they have at least 2 of everything. This ship has 4 engines and the engineer told me they only run enough of them to meet the electrical demands, which increases proportional to the ship's speed. It's common to run just one of the electric propulsion units and one stabilizer fin for increased efficiency. The machine shop was really interesting to learn about. I noticed a band saw, drill press, lathe, and the mill which I think was CNC capable. They also have carpenters on board so I'm guessing there was a wood shop somewhere. Much of the maintenance is performed while the ship is underway, even replacing engine parts. Thank you for taking time to watch and comment.

I'm pretty sure they have a complete machine shop in these ships since it's like a necessity for sure. It's fascinating for sure !

Looks like a huge factory without any workers ! Sounds are just the same as a machine shop sounds. Thx it is amazing. Can you imagine working there all day long and every day ? Respect to the mechanics of the Niew Statendam.

Surprised you were able to film any of that. We did a behind the scenes tour on a Royal Caribbean ship recently including engine room and main control room but filming of any type was strictly prohibited. Thanks for sharing.

Well , so long as no one finds out should be ok. Them two hobos aren't really allowed to touch anything in case they screw it up . But i did notice the wiper thing he was allowed to touch ( a manual clear view ) sadly it looked like they were monitoring poop flow . Well you do know pooh is a big problem on cruise ships especially if it gets clogged up . That was what the check looked like to me. poop patrol .

Usually in new model of cruise ship for today specially the big one like Oises class, have four giant deisel engines served as generators, for this class is using pods propulsion ststem using a giant electeic motor inside the pods housing which is complete of ventilation, so commonly seen inside the engine roon for individual engine was the giant switchboard piping accessories for cooling and lubrication systems and a crowded purifier room for l.o. and f.o. akso other impirtant things to run and control the engines, actually no main engines for all was a generator driver but a bigger size than any normal cargo ships in size, its nice to tour arround engine if ventilation is cool but failure of ventilation you cannot stay longer inside on this area if you are vusitors but if you work here nice to stay always in control room.

I'm not a marine engineer so I don't know for sure. From what I understand, they can use a variety of petroleum fractions, from HFO up through Diesel. Fuel pre-heating equipment is shown in the video at 5:01 so I assume high viscosity fuels can be used.

The speech in the recording was overwhelmed by the machinery noise and nearly impossible to understand. I thought about adding a narration during editing, but decided to go with a candid approach in the style of my other cruise ship walkthrough videos. I'll consider publishing another cut of the footage with me talking about the various systems if there is enough interest in the comments.
