On rare occasion you may here Siskel or Ebert explaining how they could improve a movie if they were helming it. (I'm referring to 7:40, where they discuss FOR KEEPS). One of the major questions on my mind is what kind of movie would either critic make if they were granted a budget and proficient-enough assistance. Ebert answers this by saying he'd rather make a documentary instead. Don't know how Siskel would go about answering that.
I remember watching Jack Clayton's "The Lonely Passion..." in high school. Dame Maggie Smith is superb as the angry Catholic woman who is intent on living a life that is different from what she was indoctrinated - with tragic results. 👍

For Keeps was directed by the late John Avildsen (Rocky, Karate Kid, Lean on me) and written by Tim Kazurinsky and Denise McClure (About Last Night). Sadly, it was one of 1988's worst films along with Fresh Horses another bad Molly Ringwald movie from the director of Hoosiers & Rudy.

I loved Rent a Cop. Classic screwball comedy!
I remember wondering “how could a comedy with Dan Aykroyd, Charles Grodin, & Walter Matthau be so disappointingly bad?”
Liza Minnelli as a call girl? Who would pay for that,?!!😜
