    • @mbrawthen
      @mbrawthen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Surly, Ali was NOT the most “mobile heavyweight” of all time! The man was a total mess, a Slobbering, Drooling, uncontrollable shaking physical mess!! Clearly, during Ali’s boxing career, his mobile skills were not good enough to allow him to escape the brutal punishment he absorbed in his FIVE LOSSES as well as other fights to prevent him from his horrible existence at the end of his life! Rocky Marciano on the other hand was a Master of Defense and of body and foot movement which allowed him to escape overwhelming punishment from his opponents! Rocky pummeled his opponents while for the most part escaping his opponents abilities to do the same to him!!!

You know who was GREAT their whole career? The real G.O.A.T. HEAVYWEIGHT, Rocky Marciano, he suffered NO DAMAGE.!!! Staying TOO LONG, that was Ali’s choice to make and he made the wrong one, he stayed WAY too long! @@babulah8447 He didn't beat Joe Frazier easily in the second fight. If you look closely, he was constantly on the move, having experienced in the first fight how very dangerous a boxer Joe was. In their third fight, though he didn't spend time in the hospital, he described the fight as the nearest thing to death for him. The damaging effect that The Thrilla ln Manila had on Ali health was such that he ought not to have continued fighting afterwards. That fight " left both men permanently injured." was the summary of DSTV in 2013 after showing the fight to viewers again and again. Great legends of boxing they both were with contrasting styles, both RIP!

One of those months was spent in the hospital. After Manila Ali next fought 4 1/2 months later. Then two months after that. Then one month. Then Norton four months after that. Ali needed 9 months after Norton which was a close fight. Look at the score cards. Then be beat Evangelista. Then Shavers. Shavers was the boxer that rocked Ali with power shots to the head earning Ernie the label by Ali as the hardest hitter. Oh, Frazier got bounced around the ring by Foreman after Manila. Then he had a draw against some no name. Then he retired.

      Stop the nonsense puh-leeze! Ali was indeed a great, great fighter, and I stand amazed at his ability to take punishment as well as his speed and ring savvy. However, Joe Frazier beat the snot out of him in both their first and third fights (have to review their 2nd), Ken Norton broke his jaw and without a shadow of a doubt got the better of Ali in their 3 bouts, ridiculous decision in Ali's favor at Yankee Stadium notwithstanding. His 1974 defeat of George Foreman is a bit suspect because George was at a low state in his career mentally, he was not at his best. Who's the GOAT of the heavyweights? There ain't one! They are all great fighters, they all beat each other and they all lost to each other pretty much: Ali, Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, George Foreman, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, etc, etc. They are roughly equal, all great fighters, Ali just out talked everyone else. It's the same with NFL running backs: Jim Brown, OJ Simpson, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, etc. Who was the greatest? The case could be made for all 4 - they were all amazing. Similarly in batting: Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Stan Musial, Ted Williams, Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Albert Pujols, etc, etc. - a lot of great hitters, perhaps no clear GOAT other than Williams. The only exception would be Michael Jordan, though, as he was definitely a cut or two above the other greats (yes, including LBJ). There's no way Ali could be the GOAT when he was so badly beaten by 2 of his contemporaries and there are other luminaries like Iron Mike he has to favorably compare to.

    • @JackHenoff
      @JackHenoff ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jamespenny9482 he fought Frazier without boxing for 3 years his first fight and still was winning the first couple rounds. After he came back he was never the same dancing Ali. He lost his endurance and had to resort to relying on his chin power. Ali also beat the crap out of Frazier in their 3rd fight and Joe admitted Ali getting the best of their 3 fights (but he takes 100% credit winning the most important fight being their first). Ken Norton is the only boxer that can claim to have gotten the best of Ali. Even then, Ali was past his prime fighting Norton and managed a solid win (their 2nd). Ali went on to beat Foreman and Shavers, two heavyweights that destroyed Ken Norton in less than 4 rounds. Ali was the best of his time easily and his most important fights (Foreman, Frazier, Norton) we’re all after his 3 year hiatus from boxing. We can never truly compare cross generation fighters, but Ali was undoubtedly the best of his time

    Imagine 80's Tyson trying to hit this version of Ali, he'd be hitting mostly air, Ali's speed and reflexes amazing at this time. When he was young like this his first line of defense was his legs, when he came back in the 70's he lost some of his legs, speed and reflexes and he tired more quickly, but he was still the best boxer I ever saw at coming up with what was necessary to win

Ali was laying on the ropes taking a beating. The referee said " If you don't fight Ali, I'm gonna stop it". He didn't stop it. He should have. He wasn't able to fight for many peak years, but he never went to prison and was notorious for not sparring as much as other fighters.
      I think that it robbed us of many, many inspirational fights. But I don't think it prevented him from reaching his peak. I just don't think we saw much of it.

      @Gigantor60 Cry me a river 😭😭😭! Marciano wasn’t a COWARD! Rocky joined the Military, served in a War Zone for three years during WWII. When Marciano returned from his Service, he became Heavyweight Champion and NEVER LOST A FIGHT! Marciano with just two years as a Fighter, beat the greatest fighter of his time, Joe Lewis. Marciano also beat Joe Walcott, Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore and other great fighters of that time.!!! Nobody needs to make excuses for Rocky Marciano, The True G.O.A.T.!!! GTFOH

      @@mbrawthen All the great fighters u just mentioned Marciano beat were ancient by the time he fought them. He never beat a single great fighter who was in their prime. Marciano was 49-0 against mostly bums, and old great fighters. He retired young at 32 because he knew he'd lose eventually. Meanwhile Ali had a much better record 56-5, while losing nearly 4 of his prime years and showing signs of parkinsons in his last few years of his career. He beat much better opposition and fought till he was nearly 40. He beat liston, Patterson, chuvalo, terell, mildenburger, bonavena, Quarry, Frazier, Norton, Foreman, Lyle, shavers, and the list goes on. Marciano isn't even a top 10 heavyweight of all time

      Liston was at least 32 at the time. Liston of about 1958 would have stood a good chance against prime Ali. He was a murderous puncher with a long reach who might have cut off the ring on Ali. Able to box as well as punch. Very underrated. Maybe the second best heavyweight ever behind Ali.
