    My son's car only overheats in the morning. I had no idea the water pump was electric. I will have to check on that. Thank you for the video.

    prius vibrations and shudders repair and diagnosis now boiling down to feint gurgling noise with the water pump. hopefully it will be the water pump rotor as seen in this video since it is cheaper part to buy than a water pump. thanks for this great video. subbed in 😁

    "Go through these steps:"
    1. The coolant temperature system. Tell the fans to kick on.
    2. Thermostat. Keeps the hot air in and circulates it.
    3. The water pump. Can cause your car to shut off.
    Thats really your whole coolant system.

  • @pydepiperproductionsllcjon7585
    @pydepiperproductionsllcjon7585 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Here is the issue with the cooling system. You most often do not have all those issues in the beginning. What happens with overheating is that it will cause a lot of other things to fail. For example. It might have started with the hole in the radiator, now the fans stay on longer trying too hard to bring down the temperature, Then the overheating causes the thermostat to stop opening, and that in turn messes up the water pump. This is why we do general maintenance. To try to catch those small issues before they make bigger issues.

    • @Good-humans
      @Good-humans  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah that’s correct, but also when you by a used car 🚗 you never know how good of maintenance the other person kept

      @@Good-humans yeah that's true to. I took out my water pump and thermostat but I think my issue was that heater pump. Why I say that is the coolant that came out the water pump was pink. All from the radiator was replaced with regular antifreeze because of over heating I stopped buying the pink stuff. So that tells me it never left the engine. That means it didn't cycle through the heater coil and come back to Reserva. It stayed stuck in the engine. But I also know the head gaskets blown. I get the rattle of death when I start the car after driving it.

      @@Good-humans Update, I changed the water pump and thermostat and heat came up in less than 5 mins. So I think that was the issue. But also I know I have a head gasket leak cause I get the hard-knocking when first starting up. If I try to use the K Seal should I try to add in where the hose is on the Thermostat? It is worth a shot if it gets me another 100,000 miles by then I can buy another car lol.

    I’m new to owning a 2014 Prius. Its heater blows air, but it’s not hot or even warm. My AC works. I notice the car is a little rougher running lately. The heater not heating up went out in early spring, and it was getting warmer so I didn’t do anything about it. is there a way to check see if the engine is overheating? I don’t see gauges or digital readout for it. It looks like a bear to get at the thermostat and water pump in this engine. Thanks for sharing.

    please help. prius 2012. random sporadic irreproducible engine overheating. typically, just a short flash of red T warning, accompanied with a splash of coolant out of the overflow tank. splash may be so big that coolant ends up on pass side doors. changed pump, thermostat, temperature sensor. appeared at the time to solve problem, then problem comes again. it was always sporadic. all this happened with NO check engine light and code. some ppl blame on clogged egr valve. took apart the intake manifold, yes, there was some dirt, but not terrible. finally, i got an innova 3130lat and autel mk808bt pro and checked the codes. now i have codes. one of them is P261C "pump B" thing. set autel to watch the temperature and the pump revolutions. short test drive. T reached 100 degC ....--------..=====..... correction: 2024-01-27, i was wrong on this one. i got scared and overreacted. normal working t for ice is 90-104 degrees. now, that i changed HG and drove 1800 miles, my T stays at 88 degrees. firm. pump is at 25-2600 rpm, rarely 3000 peaks. Seems like HD replacement works. Toyota, are you listening? We want reimbursement or free repair.

    HELP PLEASE. 2012 prius, 150,000 miles. random sporadic unpredictable overheating since june, finally Toyota determined it is a HG. got a set from rockauto, viktor reinz. The original HG appeared OK, nothing massive. Talked to a specialist, who convinced me that the leak is minor, and invisible, but enough to send exhaust gases into the coolant sometimes. Test for exhaust gases in coolant was negative. Also, coolant was clear pink, no sediment, no mud, no discoloration. Anyway, I just finished the job, and the overheating is now full time. test driving with autel mk808bt watching temperature and pump revolution. temperature was 80+ and then went all the way to 101. I stopped several times to let temperature go down to 90 to come back home. Even at 101 the radiator fans were OFF. They are supposed to turn on at 92 or 95. If I turn the AC on, then they begin to spin, meaning they are not busted, and the relays are OK. I was very careful to reconnect all electrical wires. Did I miss any? I made detailed description in my car logbook of every simple step I took. I worked slowly and meticulously. Today took apart and flushed the radiators with garden hose . Coolant and water came out clean. No sediments, no deposits. Should I prepare a publication for the SAE International Journal of Engines? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

      I have the similar problem with my 2010 Prius, 200K miles. What is HG? I am using a OBDII scanner to monitor the coolant temperature. It seems that the temperature goes up very quick after it reach 90 C. I am not sure whether the issue is about the thermostat or the ETC sensor. It seems that the ETC sensor is working, although the report number jumps quick up and down above 100C. I would like to change the thermostat to give it a try.

      @@junma3483 HG means headgasket which is very common problem with 3rd generation Priuses ... For whatever reason... a few theories why... clogged EGR correlation , so get it cleaned ASAP, and do it every 50K miles along with PCV Valve and intake Manifold.... Get your Coolant flushed every 5 years in case depending on what coolant you use. Replaced the Water pump which is must.... since Toyota uses plastic fins and that goes bad and doesn't have the signs of a normal belt driven pump like bad bearing noise... I just got Gifted a 2010 Prius with 99K miles with bad read wheel bearings and needed new tires... Got most of the car serviced myself Just have left the do the inverter coolant changed today and next week brake fluid change... then will start working on detailing the exterior since a few small areas are started to do dull. and replace both Driver side mirror and passenger side mirrrow with an aftermarket black one since the drive side mirror was damaged from a hit. Yeah I plan on replacing the water pump and thermostat this summer... don't want it to fail since overheating in most cases kills your headgasket.. might consider replacing radiator and coolant hoses.....

      Anyway if you overheat, the thermostat and temperature sensor becomes inaccurate and you have to replace it again each time you overheat... You need to find the root cause of your overheating issue. Here's a good video on headgasket issues from Faye Hadley. th-cam.com/video/brLmBRYSb_E/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dYd0HF0jLuTTXQsJ

    Could using the techstream tool tell you if the water pump is working or not? P261B appeared one time only for me and using the techstream tool I could see that my water pump and everything else was working. Plus engine coolant temperature didn't go above 185°. At this point I'm waiting to see if the code will appear again...

      The battery is air cooled by a fan under the back seat.
      It has a filter which must be cleaned or it won't work properly.
      If you have dogs or cats in the back, watch that filter.
