  • For my Presets visit: johnnathancordy.gumroad.com/ I put together this board to try some new things, here's my first attempts to start integrating some MIDI switching into the board. The HX Stomp is running in Snapshot Mode - and I want it to change the presets and bypass state of the Strymon Timeline - so here's what I'm doing in Command center.
    The Bypass behaviour of the Timeline is on MIDI CC #102 - 0 for bypass, 127 for engaged, check the manual for other things if you're looking for less BASIC ideas than what I've started off with!
    I've decided to make it possible to grab both my Helix/HX Stomp bundles (the expression bundle with freeze presets has always been separate) together for £5 - www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr... - I will then email you a link to both bundles!
    You can get my EXPRESSION patches in this bundle using this link - I will then send out the patches! www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...
    Try my patches (60-70+) for Helix or HX Stomp in this bundle for £3 using this link - I will then send out the patches! www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...
    Try my patches for Pod GO for £3 using this link - I will then send out the patches! www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...

    This is the best video for setting up MIDI with the Helix stomp, thank you! Now I can switch my big sky with my presets on the helix. I wish good fortune on you and your family! Lol

    Dude that was one the most amazing solos I've heard you play ! Can tell you're feeling really inspired with this setup ! With BigSky you could use an Expression pedal next to the stomp to control decay, heel could be the normal decay time you want and toe could be max decay or mix or both ! Also I recommend the plate reverb for really moody verb, (large plate, mix at 11-12, low end at 12, decay 8-13 secs, predelay at 9-12, tone 12, mod at 4-5 !

    Thanks for the HX explanation - need to try it myself, as I've never actually tried anything Midi with my stomp.
    Couple of ideas on top of just parameter/preset altering- midi can be used to activate freeze/hold on the Big Sky; and to activate Looper mode on the Timeline. I've always liked that Timeline's Looper can change speed and reverse the sample so might be cool for using as a backing effect - not going to replace a bigger dedicated device, but nice all the same.

    Excellent as always. Only suggestion for this board is to use some form of preamp like a TC spark or RC1 first - Sounds better and keeps you from having to use a block for pre-eq and solves level/buffer problems that the stomp is not great with. Bought a stomp largely based on watching your channel, preset downloads are a steal for 5 quid as well and helpful learning how to use it. Thanks.

    Another thing worth trying, this time without the stomp, is the “full Strymon pedalboard” (iridium, big sky, and timeline) with something like the Line6 power cab or just the studio monitors. Just going full Strymon with it!! Less flexibility than with the HX Stomp of course, and no dual amps, but just to check the tones of a full Strymon rig!!

    • @CitizenOfEverywhere
      @CitizenOfEverywhere 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's the direction I am going (currently Compadre -> (overdrives) -> Iridium -> Volante). I don't think its "less flexible", because ultimately you can do nearly anything. I mean, dual amping is completely possible; use two Iridiums! I use an Iridium and Fender Deluxe Reverb Tone Master, and I use Ableton Live to automate anything I want via midi. Ableton, in turn, is controlled via Push and/or foot switches. Maybe its just a matter of perspective, but I look at HX Stomp and think "too limiting" (but, great value for money, lol).

  • @TheAvionet
    @TheAvionet 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I did as you said and I can now control my presets on Timeline and RV-500. However, if I'm slightly out of time and I need to hit just Timeline using its tap tempo, I'm not able to do it, because the HX Stomp corrects permanently. What settings am I missing?

  • @mitchellhaller7190

    I am considering purchasing a hardware modeler and I am wondering how this setup compares to a full Helix. The combined cost of a BigSky, Timeline, and HX Stomp is comparable to the full Helix. I would think the work flow is more straightforward just using the full Helix for amp modeling, delay and reverb (no messing with midi messaging for example). So I am wondering what is the advantage of this approach? Thanks for another interesting video.

    • @johnnathancordy
      @johnnathancordy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mitchell - I think at the end of this video (or the one preceding it - I did mention that to be honest - this is right up there cost wise with the Helix, and like you say the workflow is definitely more straightforward (don't have to worry about Midi etc). I guess the potential for splitting it up since it's modular and using this stuff with a real amp is one kind of approach, and potentially some people definitely prefer some of the strymon algorithms to the Helix stuff?

    Wondering how close are the reverbs and the echos on the line6 compared to the strymon pedals? Are they close and do you really need the extra pedals?

    • @picksalot1
      @picksalot1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen some good comparisons, particularly on Jason Sadites Channel. For basic use, the Line 6 reverbs and echoes are fine. For more complicated and unusual effects, the dedicated Strymon pedals probably provide a better solution. I'm trying to do everything with my HX Stomp, but having a few pedals/effects that can be easily applied to any Preset at any time is a very desirable option.

    • @johnnathancordy
      @johnnathancordy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The line 6 delays and reverbs are certainly very useable and on the full helix I use them in combination and can do some things that I'm really happy with. This board is more about being able to have a dual amp preset on the stomp, and then a few options for reverb and a delay with a looper. A bit more of a modular approach I guess?

    So John you should look into a mc-6 for expanding your pedal possibilities if you interested here was my midi work flow before I went fm3 imgur.com/gallery/9pq7nXz and my board before imgur.com/gallery/QMQoLit . When I changed presets using the mic-6 it would also change to the correct delay or reverb setting on the volante at the same time since the hxstomp couldn’t send messages out like that before
    There were a lot of other things I did around set lists as well always available to chat if interested haha
