  • Lyg is perhaps the most mysterious continent within Elder Scrolls Lore. Is Lyg even a continent, or is it a 'realm'? In this video, I explore the history of Lyg and it's impact on Tamriel. Elder Scrolls Lore Lyg. Elder Scrolls Continents

    If Tamriel left an imprint of itself when nirn folded up, doesn't that mean that there may be some kind of parallel Akavir? Maybe even parallel versions of all the other islands in Nirn? And this might sound crazy, but maybe, if Aldmeris truly exists, it may be a parallel version of Atmora. I may not have understood exactly what is meant with parallel in this context, but I can definitely see some parallelisms between Atmora and Aldmeris now that I have started to think about It:
    -while Atmora is known to be just up north from Tamriel, Aldmeris is usually depicted in maps directly south of Tamriel (yes, i have heard the non-cardinal directions thing, but come on, wtf does that mean. And even if it is that way, I have two more ways to relating Aldmeris and Atmora :) )
    -This one may not be such a strong point, but while Aldmeris is an idyllic place, Atmora is known to be quite the opposite, a harsh, cold and inhosptitable island
    -Finally, the relation I find to be the most important is that men originated on Atmora while mer are supposed to be native to Aldmeris.
    Let me know what you think of my theory and of any ways it could be improved if you are so kind :)

    • @RustedBuddy5192
      @RustedBuddy5192 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      They are also equally racist. High elves being closer to Aldmeris and Nords being closer to Atmora are both typically racist as far as we seen in the games. with every other race in between being more or less indifferent to other races. Also we already have Flat Earthers now we got Flat Nirners lol.

      There's nothing stopping them from making a spin off in Akavir or anywhere else. Heck ESO is prime territory for an Akavir expansion in particular. Most fans don't care either way, a good amount would like to explore outside Tamriel, and then there are puratists that will kill the series before they accept anything different.

    Here's the literal, real world origin of Lyg (albeit written allegorically in the same drug addled affectation as some of the lore): teslore.wikia.com/wiki/On_The_Origin_of_the_Name_Lyg
    In summary, according to Michael Kirkbride, "Lyg is a backwards coffee stain of Tamriel"- literally- created during a developer meeting. The "newest king" is Michael Kirkbride, his "elder brother king" is probably Kurt Kuhlmann, and "Uncle" is almost certainly Ken Rolston.

    It sounds like if we ever get an Elder Scrolls that includes all of Tamriel, it could be comparatively easy to make a DLC (Or just part of the game) where they reuse Tamriel but then make adjustments from there, maybe even moving assets around in a way that makes it so it looks the same or similar on a surface level but is "wrong", plus different weather systems, color filters, altered textures- Could go as far or as little as you'd like.

  • @vecrodriguez4860
    @vecrodriguez4860 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    +Avarti "Noncardinal directions" implies that Lyg exists parallel to Tamriel. If you could travel along the proper axis (like going 'left' or 'right' in time), you could reach it, but you can't get to it by travelling through space. Mundus, as represented in the lore, isn't a planet so much as it is a plane that's been folded in on itself. It's composed of more strange layers and dimensions than the 3+time we're used to. I'd argue that Lyg is real in the same sense that Tamriel is real, not allegorical, but rather explained in allegory because there isn't really a way to communicate it's nature to folks who can't even begin to understand the context it exists within.

    Well looking at the word cardinal it has quite a few meanings but the most applicable seems to be the the adjective which means means "of the greatest importance; fundamental" and has synonyms for words like basic, root, rudimentary and main.
    So based on that I would surmise moving in a non cardinal direction would be moving in a more complicated direction something more, so a movement in the non physical sense. Given that Lyg is often referred to by terms like a coffee stain leeching through from the other side of the paper the person reaching Lyg would essentially be leeching through the paper to the other side in the opposite direction while never actually moving.
    A coffee stain is on the exact same place on both sides of a piece of paper, it doesn't move the page does.

      I think Towers could be some sort of Aetherial energy antennae, or more abstractly have some connection between Mundus and the Aetherius, that help manipulate the physical world. My basis for saying that is a). Towers can be built by mortals to ascend to power in the world and b). every single event involving Towers revolves around using some sort of energy beyond the scope of mere mortals. It definitely has connection to the tonal architecture of Mundus, i.e. the "programm code", so perhaps they are "interfaces " where those "codes" are easier to access.

    The Cardinal Directions are the three dimensions of space: Up and Down, Left and Right, Front and Back.
    The Non-Cardinal Direction could either be time itself (So you need to timetravel to reach Lyg) or Extra spacial dimensions that are not visible and traversible by mortals and other 3d beings (So to reach Lyg, you need to"Slide" through the 4th dimension of space and reach the parallel world where Lyg is Tamriel's counterpart)
    Or maybe it's both, considering that The Elder Scrolls universe exists within a Kalpic Cycle, maybe if you travel back/forth in time far enough, you'll reach another Kalpa, that is by all intents and purposes, a parallel universe

    What's a Kalpa?
    6:19 Again, how's it 'perverted' in any way???

    • @apacheko6992
      @apacheko6992 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you still haven't found your answers, by perverted he doesn't mean sexually but instead that Lyg is an odd corrupted version of Tamriel. And a kalpa is a period of time. The elder scrolls exists in a kalpa and all of it's events. At the end of the kalpa (or the end of time) the kalpa will simply reset meaning all events that have ever occured on mundus are erased and begin with different outcomes and events.

    I feel this video would benefit greatly from subtitles, no offense. The way you pronounce a lot of things, mostly words exclusive to TES, are incomprehensible. I shouldn't have to have such a hard time watching this.

    Lyg sounds a hell of a lot like the Bermuda Triangle of the TES universe. What if our Bermuda Triangle is actually a portal to Lyg? Making the Elder Scrolls Universe real?? That would mean some nasty copyright issues for Betheseda.

    Sounds like it is a plane of reality from the last cycle just out of step with Nirn in the current cycle. It is not part of the time line or any other oblivion plane. It is the 6th dimension.

    Aldmeris is the past, Tamriel is the present and Lyg is the future. They are all there at the same time but they dont exist to each other at the same time. You cant go to Lyg by any cardinal direction because to Tamriel it doesn't exist on the map, you have to go forward in time to reach Lyg.

    The Ruddy Man is the son of Molag Bal and Vivec, although he is the son of the two he is said to resemble a Dreugh and is said to be an aspect of Molag Bal. Molag Bal was not the one made on Lyg, that was Dagon, as in Mehrunes Dagon. There's a few other mistakes but those are the main ones I had a problem with!

    • @TerrariaGolem
      @TerrariaGolem 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      GhostShadow1030 true. Also many magnagee helped make Dagon to topple the Ruddy Man. Meridia was punished for communing with Daedra thus becoming a Daedric Prince

    • @GhostShadow1030
      @GhostShadow1030 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MossyGolem The Magna-Gi indeed helped him, as they made him. However it was said that Lord Vivec was the one to eliminate the Ruddyman as stated in various in-games book and sources but that is one of many things that BGS and ZOS have made that goes into conflict with previous and existing lore.
