Imagine if they made "Late Night with Squidward Tentacles" on Nick at Nite, aimed at adults who grew up watching Spongebob. Something like a mix between Tentacle Vision and Space Ghost. I'd definitely watch that spin-off!
Mr. Krabs or Sandy would have been better candidates for a spin off series. Only due to them having more interesting backgrounds and better developed personalities, at least compared to Patrick. I really want to know who Dirty Dan is.
I feel like Squidward would still have made a better spin-off, since Patrick to me is just a secondary SpongeBob, while Squidward could potentially offer a new perspective on the universe(sounds more grander than I intended, but you know what I mean lol I like for my spin-offs to feel different from the main series in general personally xD)

I'm getting Planet Sheen vibes here. Taking the dumbest character on the show give them their own show and it fails harder than the characters 1st grade math test.
Personally, the only reason I get so stuck on "Hillenburg didn't want spin-offs" is because the timing really makes it feel like they just waited for him to die to greenlight these new shows. And if I'm honest, It wouldn't surprise me anymore.
@@SteamingHillenturds I’d much rather make lame insults that don’t hurt your feelings instead of wasting my time being disrespectful and mocking a dead person.
The problem I have with this show, is that the tone, humor, writing, setting, characters, etc.; it's just regular spongebob, but the jokes are more random and patrick is the focus of the show. There's no reason for this show to exist. Half of the jokes are funny, but they'd be better used in an actual spongebob episode, like the Chumbucket commercial gag. It's funny, and it works, but it would've been better used in an actual episode of Spongebob.
Better idea in my opinion: We get a Squidward mini series instead and it focuses around Squidward meeting his father on a road trip and we get a deeper understanding as to why he’s so grumpy all the time
I would actually watch that. I don't think patrick is a good character to sustain an entire show as the main character, but I do think Squidward could fit into the role for maybe five or six 22 minute episodes
I can already pitch a better version of this show, more specifically its pilot. Start with Patrick living in the rock, when suddenly he finds himself foreclosed upon because he hasn't made a payment on his mortgage for the last 22 years (he has zero income). He considers asking Spongebob if he could live with him, but imagines Spongebob mocking him for being homeless and can't do it. So he decides to go live with his parents until he can trudge up enough money to pay to get his rock back. While there, his sister suggests the idea that he could start his own television show to make some money, and although he tries to do it on his own, he fails horribly, and he realizes the best way to do it is to make it a whole family arrangement. Now we have both a reason for Patrick moving in with his parents, and a driving force for future episode plots: Patrick coming up with and executing various episodes for his show, and other various money making schemes a la Ed Edd and Eddy.
About the Stephen Hillenburg stuff, I think the reason a lot more didn’t like it, was that originally seemed like Nickelodeon waited for him to die before doing that. Not just that he disliked it. Albeit, we do know now that Hillenburg knew about the spin offs.
I assume they kind of had to convince Stephen to let them make Kamp Koral, assuming what people are saying is true that he knew about it, but I don’t think he ever wanted the Patrick Star Show.
He never said he disliked it in the first place, just that he didn't see spin offs happening. Stephen himself let Kamp Koral happened so why think this would be any different? Its horrible the way people twist the words of an interview 12 years ago to satisfy their "industry bad" complex. I do agree that Nick can be scummy, but the Patrick Show should never have been used as an example of that and Stephen's words should've never been misconstrued.
@@realreptillianjesus It wasn’t just that interview, it was also what Tibbit said that made it believable. I don’t really see your point here, I said Stephen knew about the spin offs. Not that I thought he would’ve hated the Patrick Show. I was talking about why some people were so against these before.
@@luigiplayer14 My only guess is that Kamp Koral had something in it that Stephen wouldn't have liked that had nothing to do with the fact that it was a spinoff, but we have no way to confirm, so I'll give Nickelodeon the innocent until proven guilty rule.

There's really no point in making a prequel to Spongebob considering that it's basically no more different than what we're seeing in season 12 of Spongebob consisting mostly of random jokes and references. It's also not a good idea that they're making a spin-off based off of the comedic relief character again, considering that Planet Sheen did that same thing and it failed miserably because Sheen on his own wasn't as good of a character since he didn't have Jimmy or Carl to work off of. I will give Planet Sheen at least one point in that at the very least the randomness makes a little more sense considering that it takes place on a different planet and whereas here it seems to still take place in Bikini Bottom, but it's just pointless randomness and doesn't even really seem to have that same underwater aesthetic that Spongebob is known for.
Actually Patrick does have the spongebob cast to work off in this spin-off where as planet sheen didn’t and this show does take place in bikini bottom but It’s almost like it doesn’t it’s so off the wall it wouldn’t be surprised if it was just how Patrick saw bikini bottom it the world
I've seen that they upped the number of references to classic spongebob, or all of spongebob in general, and while that might've worked in some games like BFBB it doesn't quite work out in the show unless they're easter eggs, otherwise it's just pandering to the older fans to make em think the episode's good.
Funnily enough- had this been a one off episode in the main show it could have been really good. Like Patrick takes control of the show for one episode and this is what he thinks spongebob does.
To be fair, the writers are just absolutely winging it with this one. The show isn't supposed to have continuity or understanding, and that's what some people love about it. I can understand why some people don't, though. My mom said she doesn't like the "show within a show" vibe.
In camp coral the twist is sandy send his younger self to the camp coral to stop SpongeBob from finding the Krabby patty formula before Mr Krabs did and this plot twist save the contiounity of timeline
Yeah this type of explanation is also just about the same reason for why Star Wars has become so horrible as well. If you start to accept bad storytelling then nothing become worth holding onto😣
This show does feel like a kid's show, it feels like a toddler show. Like do you understand what I mean? It feels like a show that's for children who haven't developed their language enough. Like a show for children "too young" to understand Spongebob. But while also making random references for parents who know the older Spongebob???
Spongebob isn't a "toddler show" imo shows aimed for preschoolers examples would be Blue Clues Paw Patrol, Bubble Guppies Disney Jr Shows PJ Masks Wordgirl Super Why, Daniel Tiger Arthur Clifford Seasme Street, True And the Rainbow Kingdom Peppa Pig Dora Curious George and for idk probably aimed towards babies is Cocomelon and the Teletubbies.
My theory: The “Patrick Star Show” takes place in an alternate universe where Patrick has a show rather than Spongebob. More importantly, in this universe Patrick is self-aware while Spongebob isn’t. You see how Patrick greets his audiences but Spongebob doesn’t? The Patrick Show takes place in a more fantasy-like manner however, Spongebob Squarepants takes place in a logical manner. I think Patrick was able to create his own world while Spongebob was born in a predetermined one much like DDLC logic. Patrick would obviously create a world that only he can understand. This is why strange things that happened in Patrick’s show will never happen in Spongebob’s show. I actually think that Patrick was self-aware this entire time. He would obviously recognize the popularity that Spongebob Squarepants gained (fictional and irl) so he wanted that same kind of popularity. He created the universe that the Patrick Show takes place in. An alternate universe in which Spongebob is the nobody instead of him.
@@LucyWest370 yeah I feel the same way, I feel like the show will be cancelled and some guy on the internet (if it is still around) will make a video called Does anybody remember that stupid Patrick star spin off show?
I'm more surprised that this show was even green-lit to begin with. Let alone giving Patrick himself a spin-off something that nobody asked for at all.
Another ill fated spin-off that seems destined to fail, because it 100% doesn't understand the appeal of the main show. How many times do we need to teach you this lesson, old man!?
@Joshua W56 now hold on, the episode "Something Smells" is a season 2 episode. Big Sister Sam was introduced during season 7. So actually Patrick does have a sister. Also he even said she was a long lost sister in the episode Big Sister Sam was introduced, so Patrick probably didn't know about her in "Something Smells" and found out about her in the future.
This makes sense. In the episode big sister sam which takes place after something smells Patrick says that they have been taken away when they were babies and Patrick this moment learnt it
Honestly this spin-off could've worked if done properly, could've had Patrick host a talk show in like an Eric Andre style-esqe kinda thing, and also have other SpongeBob characters appear and even wilder other Nicktoons both new and old appear as well, just to mix it up a bit.
I honestly thought that it was going to be exactly what you explained. Then the preview came out and I heard it was supposed to be almost like Patrick was starring in a sitcom (similar to a Seinfeld or Reba type show) but it seems like that isn’t the case
@@petergriffinsbrother2499 Yeah, but I think it would've worked better as a full 15 minute show, could have skits in between Patrick's interviews kinda like a Eric Andre structure
Clearly Nick did not learn their lesson with Planet Sheen When they greenlit this spin-off: comic relief characters being the focus of an entire show is never going to end well.
@@PlahaKumar TLDR, Patrick. Explanation below: Not either of them, but Sheen felt lobotomized. Even at the final season, he was smarter than what he was in Planet Sheen. Patrick was merely overused to where his traits were exaggerated and now he's Special Needs™. Back in the day, he was cool, and sometimes stupid. Remember Panty Raid? Remember Pinky Out? Nobody calls me tubby? "I DEMAND THAT YOU LOOK AT IT!"? "Whoever drives the white sedan, you left your lights on."? Both are obnoxious shows, but one's just a result of entropy, while the other is just Fanboy and Chum Chum ratings chaser. Technically Patrick is worse because it has nothing going on story-wise. At least Sheen was goal-oriented and he had a universe to play in. I really want to say Sheen was worse, but in technicality, even with how stupid they forcefully made him, he had a reason to keep a show.
not really imo... because now the show is getting to animated, like over exaggerating the moves in every characters movements. Also there making spongebob more annoying then he needs to be. Also not saying there is anything wrong with spongebob but I feel like people are just kinda growing out spongebob now.
A spin off show about the background characters would have been more interesting. Like you would see what the fish and other characters get up to and sometimes have the main characters show up in the background from time to time. I'd love to see what Bubble Bass does in his every day life.
Nah bro yal would still complain doesn’t matter what Nick does you Nostalgic fanboys will never like it some people just get overwhelmed by nostalgia and it blinds them and it shows

@@TheAlphaJayShow Honestly original him was not bright, not dumb, there was some stupidness but he had some self awareness, but as the years progress, Nick saw him as just dumb, which had some comedic moments but then it started getting annoying, what about spongebob, he was more childish at the start, but mature at points, then soon they just made him just childish as the episode progressed, he had some form of intelligence but he just mostly cry, act oblivious, more like a child, characters like Mr. Krab or Sandy had some interesting start, but in my opinion they just kept it simple, so they couldn’t really downgrade them as a one personality, making a show about Patrick and his family could work, but the pee wee wackiness was not the way to do it, wouldn’t it be more interesting to see more of his old parents, or his relationship with his old sister, or what he done with spongebob before he worked at the Krusty Krab, maybe have a justification of dumb Patrick, or childish spongebob, but they went with the “Hah Hah dumb funny” Humor, which was kinda just boring and obnoxious, this is my analysis of the Patrick.
Tbh I rather have a “Sandy show” bc it would be interesting, You never make the main side character that’s for comedic relief to a main character like Pixar did in “Cars 2” for Mater
Nickelodeon: “Am I really about to defile Stephen Hillenburg’s grave for money?” Also Nickelodeon: “Of course I am!” *digs up Patrick Star Show, then Camp Coral*
Maybe this show takes place in Patrick's head? He eventually, after years and years, considered what Spongebob said about doing anything in his dreams, and this is the result. Maybe in Patrick's head, he thinks he's been wearing a shirt this whole time. I really wouldn't put it past him.
Exactly like the Joey Show, the spinoff of friends. They took the jokey character that everyone liked, because he always came in with the punchlines, and then got him to agree to make a separate show. Then people realized that without other characters, and with the main focus on him, the show was terrible. I'm disappointed in the network execs.
The reason they made the Patrick star show is 1. People were complaining that SpongeBob was the only thing on Nickelodeon. 2. They want more money obviously.
Simple as *M O N E Y,* also anybody else remembers Patrick's true parents showed in the episode titled Idiot Boy where SpongeBob acts dumb to make Patrick seem smart to his "parents" and in fact they weren't his parents the whole time just some random strangers while his real parents were shown in the last minutes of the episode.
what i don't understand is that why they use patrick real parents in this show i know spongebob never really cared for continuity but they shouldn't make it this obvious.
@@allenwright123 Same. I refuse to believe that this is his family, since his parents don't even look alike, and he never once mentioned having a squid for a sister. The only reason I think it won't happen is because the squid treats him like her actual brother, and isn't just stupid like the others in the family. Same with the Grandpa, who seems actually intelligent.
I really don't understand the point of these spin-offs having the same style of the new seasons, it makes having spin-offs pointless since they are not that different from the current show. Also, no offense to Kaz, but his writing on SpongeBob can feel bare bones at times.
Camp coral went CGI so they at least tried to be different there. Even if the execution hasnt been great. Props to the effort tho. Patrick show is exactly what I feared a post Hilenburg cash grab would be, in the worst way possible. I don't get how a multi billion dollar franchise can't hire a decent writer to make some good jokes. I wouldn't even mind the continuity discrepancy if it was at least funny. Slapstick is a dying genre and at this point SpongeBob is just throwing dirt on the grave.
I will genuinely give this show HALF a season. Also, Jesus, all the "new" animation styles they are literally throwing at the wall, they are utterly horrific.
To tell ya the truth I actually was excited for the show because of the title I thought it would something similarities to a late night tv news or comedy show something like in the 1900s showing the daily days of bikini bottom with Patrick (an adult) as the host or commentator while SpongeBob and the crew helping him out behind the scenes that would be so cool in my opinion.

This is a worse case for the patrick star show in which it began being worked on AND was advertised long after his death which is also terrible Edit: oh boy, my bad for pissing off every snowflake on youtube. Its an observation. Relax
I get that feeling, too. It’s been 20 plus years and his character has become so flanderized. If you see interviews and stuff with him irl, he looks dead inside.
This show would be great if it was some sort of psychological breakdown where every episode he falls deeper into madness but he just doesn't realize it.
At this point Nick should just make Sponge bob the official mascot. He basically like Bugs bunny and Mickey mouse. They just gonna cancel his main series and make another series called Sponge bob club house for Nick Jr.
In Spongebob, Patrick’s parents are stars. In The Patrick Show, his parents are a squid and a star. In Spongebob, Patrick’s sister is also a star. In Patrick’s show, it’s a squid! Steven Hillenburg was a Marine Biologist and would not let that slide. It’s just disgusting that Nickelodeon is trying to make Spongebob something completely different when it was better before adding disgusting graphics, stupid jokes, and the Patrick Star Show. Uhm…well I know about patricks sister. But just a few things to say. His star sister is obviously an adult so she can, even tho she‘s crazy, live alone. And idk if his parents got ever shown in the show. They showed 2 random stars in the episode where they THOUGHT it was patricks parents but ultimately this got thrown out when the 2 realize they never had kids. So idk when the parents got shown Edit: Ahhh wait his REAL parents came at the end of the episode right?
@@certifiedteriyaki9372 You're right, they did. And in another episode where there was a mix-up and Patrick was assumed to be a king, those same sea stars from the end of 'I'm With Stupid' were shown on a family tree that ended with Patrick, which is why he was assumed to be a king.
@Joshua W56 he did also not even realize who his parents was. If it was any other character then yeah but patrick forgetting critical information for comedy is fitting, especially if he hasn't had use for that information for a long time
Patrick’s sister in that episode looks way older than his sister in The Patrick Show, so there’s a good chance that she lives alone. Also, maybe I’m stupid but which one of Patrick’s parents is a squid? They both look like stars to me.
I also think that the main gripe of “Stephen didn’t want this” is also a genuine anger that they waited until after his death to release all of these spin-offs. But I definitely agree with your point there.
Spongebob: This is more embarrassing then the time Squidward thought HE was getting the spin off. Squidward: Later, barnacle heads! Have fun with your stupid Krabby Patties and your Jellyfish fields and your- Hey, why is there a moving truck outside of Patrick’s house?

Glad I’m not the only one. Patrick doesn’t seem like the character who can hold his own show. Edited: I hardly get more then a few likes. Thank you guys.
I feel like this show will last until the end of it's first season. Then be cast to the wind in critical and commercial failure. At best, it might get a season 2 if the creators are THAT adament about keeping it going, but i don't realistically see it going any further than that.
"How long will the show last?" Considering that my country didn't get a dub, it's already dead for me xD I'll never see any episode of this on TV. Is that good or bad? I don't know, I like the modernized art style, but I think I'm just too old for the jokes xD
@Nick Mick no, it's like that my country knows that it's getting a dub most of the time before the show in question is even out. But this time the people responsible for it openly stated that they don't have any plans to work on a dub for it. So it's kinda clear xD
I didn't like it at all. The plot and overall aesthetic was off putting. The fact that they changed everything from the outfits even down to where Patrick lives just makes me feel as though their erasing everything spongebob had pretty much layed out. Atleast with other spinoff they try to stay somewhat true to the original themes. Honestly I would've accepted a spinoff about plankton, atleast he had more character development and wasn't just comedic relief. I was excited to see the show, but within 3 mins of watching the first episode I had a headache.
I agree. I just wish they would've created the Patrick who lives in the Spongebob show but it's his point of view, if you see what I'm saying. It was exciting though, the execution I did not like.
@@christophergrimes7533 true. I'm not exactly sure what they're going for with this new series tho. There doesn't seem to be a villain, and it's unclear what the overall objective is other than money. I wish there was more of an explanation tbh 😕.
It could be a show that evolves Patrick as a character. How I mean it is that the first episode is how Patrick sees the world and everything around him and as it goes on and on Patrick would start to see how the world is really like so he can grow from it while remaining the parts that make him enjoyable.

Every show is about making money. If Nick or Viacom doesn’t think something will be profitable for them and their shareholders, than they won’t run the show. That doesn’t make every series automatically bad or anything, but don’t delude yourself into thinking profit isn’t the primary motivation. This is the nature of capitalism. If you want creativity for creativity sake, you’re looking in the wrong platform
Right after Stephen Hillenburg died, Nickelodeon took everything that he didn’t want to happen and made it happen. Nickelodeon basically “said fuck it it’s real estate now!”

Probably. I don’t remember who said this (maybe LS Mark), but when ever a show is released, the network later announces a 2nd season to make it look like the show is doing good and then cancel it after season 2.
Stephen Helinburg was VERY clear when he said that he doesn't want Spongebob to have spinoffs. Whoever had the idea to even make The Patrick Show was disrespecting him, either because he was selfish or he was unprepared to even continue the franchise when Stephen passed away.
It's hard to tetermine what he said, without accidentally twisting up his words. Remember, he said "I don't see any spinoffs". You can't really bet all of your money on that one SINGLE statement.

Whilst I get the argument you were making about Hillenburg, I think what most people have a problem with is, all the stuff you listed happened BEFORE Hillenburg's passing. This happened AFTER, which is what made people cross and assume Nick "waited for Hillenburg to pass." Also, from all the shady producers working on the show and lying about production and meetings (pieguy has a really good video on it) makes it seem gross to do this like right after Hillenburg passed. EVEN IF this was discussed when Hillenburg was alive, a personal friend of Hillenburg said that we hasn't in the best condition and was sick with ALS for the period of time before passing. Like I said, it seems hypocritical to say we enjoy the things before because they were good, but the real problem is this all occurred after the passing, which I personally believe is the main root of the problem.

Hmm maybe rather than a series it's a maybe 3 part episode solely focused on squidward. I just want them to do my boi some justice
I would actually watch that. I don't think patrick is a good character to sustain an entire show as the main character, but I do think Squidward could fit into the role for maybe five or six 22 minute episodes

“I’ll give him eleven minutes.”
21 weeks
The only part of the show is those like 4 seconds
The best part is this actually applies to this situation
I’ll give him 5 episodes
Makes more sense than what we got.
Are you a writer? This pitch is brilliant.
Honestly, this is so much better...

I don’t really see your point here, I said Stephen knew about the spin offs. Not that I thought he would’ve hated the Patrick Show.

Exactly
The randomness is intentional.
The randomness happens in this show because it takes place in Patrick’s imagination
Funnily enough- had this been a one off episode in the main show it could have been really good. Like Patrick takes control of the show for one episode and this is what he thinks spongebob does.
Wait wasn’t there a day in the life of Patrick episode?

In the beginning Patrick say that Patrick show is taking place in his head.

Which show do you think is worse in your opinion though?
@@PlahaKumar
TLDR, Patrick.
Explanation below:
Not either of them, but Sheen felt lobotomized.

Considering that my country didn't get a dub, it's already dead for me xD I'll never see any episode of this on TV. Is that good or bad? I don't know, I like the modernized art style, but I think I'm just too old for the jokes xD
It Depends: What Is Your Homeland?
You aren’t missing out on anything
@Nick Mick no, it's like that my country knows that it's getting a dub most of the time before the show in question is even out. But this time the people responsible for it openly stated that they don't have any plans to work on a dub for it. So it's kinda clear xD
@Osher Ratzabi yeah, same. That's what I meant. Normally we'd already know that we would get a dub, but no one cares xD
Plankton could easily have a Pinky and the Brain type of show.
@@maidenreligion12 your right. And since we always see from the "good guys pov" it would allow alot more storyline seeing as tho he's a villain.
@@ToroDelSushi Thank you.
Stephen even said a Patrick show would be a bad idea.
Thanks Nickelodeon.
No in a 2004 interview, I've always wanted to see Patrick in his very own show
It could be a show that evolves Patrick as a character. How I mean it is that the first episode is how Patrick sees the world and everything around him and as it goes on and on Patrick would start to see how the world is really like so he can grow from it while remaining the parts that make him enjoyable.
Random, but whatever:
Know 'Cliffside'?
Or 'Starship Goldfish'?
Both are epicly funny, so i randomly recommend
it to random People just 'because'...
Take the Fun-Time or leave it.
I think that you're misunderstanding the point of SpongeBob and its spin-offs:
It's about money.
I'm curious to know why they reject the original idea of his sister in the show and why the one with the glasses is his sister.
Well, Patrick’s other sister looks way older than his sister in The Patrick Show, so she most likely lives alone.
Ig his sister Sam doesn’t look appealing to kids so they came up with a cute looking squid
@@shyghost4695 i have no idea why they even made her a squid and not like a baby starfish or something
Right after Stephen Hillenburg died, Nickelodeon took everything that he didn’t want to happen and made it happen. Nickelodeon basically “said fuck it it’s real estate now!”

I think the show will last in a way like Camp Coral and will stay as long as Nick wants it to
people got tired of spongebobs bull shit but no one wants to take anything off the air so they give a spin off to there bronze place character
It’s simple, because the guys in charge of nickelodeon have no respect for the wishes of the OG mind behind SpongeBob
From reading the article, there’s a lot of things Hillenburg didn’t want + I don’t like using that argument because I don’t know for sure.
I used to be with people on this, but apparently he worked on camp corral… so this is just misinformation I think, no ones fault really

this show is the epitome of my constently repeated warning.
Companies will ALWAYS try to get away with giving you less than you demand. If you are not making demands at all and just accepting what you're given, then they will keep giving you progressively less and less until they're giving you NOTHING
"Stephen: No spinoffs"
"Nickelodeon: Oh sure"
Its spongebob, its likely gonna last at least 2 seasons
Lol probably...
At least
Probably. I don’t remember who said this (maybe LS Mark), but when ever a show is released, the network later announces a 2nd season to make it look like the show is doing good and then cancel it after season 2.
@@RudeRabit Or they split the first season in half.
I'm very curious, they could give it 4 seasons or more because it's SpongeBob. At this point, I feel like the ratings isn't of their highest concern.
@@Dezlite he said see.. not no specifically. Don't put words in a dead mans mouth. Nick isn't disrespecting anything
@@chloenieuwsma4846 When you're the creator of a show, and you say you don't see something happening, it usually means you don't want it to happen
Besides, didn't one of Hillenburg's close friends post on Twitter about how "Hillenburg would have despised this" when talking about Camp Koral? Even going as far as saying "Shame on them"? We aren't putting words in a dead man's mouth, there's enough evidence to prove he would have never agreed to Camp Koral or TPS. You can like these 2 products, but have to admit they are very scummy.
@@tragedyplustime8271 i feel that they're more or less not referring to the fact that they're spinoffs, but the fact that they're bad ones
Good video as always, just wanted to point it out.
spin off of spongebob: exist
spongebob cannon: ight ima head out
Going off of the success of the Casagrande's ( The Loud House spin-off ) I'm willing to be that the Patrick Star Show will last for about 2 seasons.
Lol I never even watched The Casagrandes not even once I might watch it one day it seems like a very witty spinoff of the Loud house.
I perfer the casagrande's over the loud house.
I like The Loud House it's a very funny and wholesome show to watch.
Casagrandes was renewed for a third season so three seasons?
The casagrande is still running and i actually like it a bit more than the loud house. But i love both shows.
