Hey Guys, I’m Alex Etches and I’m a golf professional and product reviewer. If you don’t know me, I started playing golf at 10 years old, turned professional at 22 in the UK, and have been creating entertaining and informative golf content on different platforms for the last 10 years. I have a set of the MB-101's and I love them soooo much, but that being said the 700's are sharp as hell.....I would get both sets, tell the wife its for "work related stuff" and then swap in and out randomly :)

101s hands down. The feel and tone of blades is what keeps me coming back. If you look at your aggregate shots I’d say the 101s are a tighter dispersion.
I had the 201s. Now I’ve got the 101s. What you can’t measure on a sim based on fake grass is how the sole will interact with turf. I think the km700 is for the sweeper who takes a very shallow to no divot. A great player, but one who mostly picks it clean. With your swing speed you’ll be taking a divot and I think the sole of the 101 is perfect.
I have been most fortunate to play Miura's for a few years. For me, the limited production Series 1957 irons are the most beautiful and their feel and ball strike are simple the reason to own them.
I’ve had km700 for about 6 weeks. Still getting used to them. KM700s are surprisingly longer than I had expected.

Would you say that the 101s had an advantage given you’ve played them longer? Were the 700s custom fit for you?
I play the MC 501s and just ordered the 700s without ever hitting them. Couldn’t pass up Miura-San’s last designed clubs.

Just got the 700s aaaand their real nice 😊 played baby blades and TC-201s. Gonna need to see an on course ch-AL-enge to validate.
How did you get your hands on a set of KM-700s this early? I can understand Al getting them for review. My club builder says he won’t have them until at least December and probably January. I told him to order a set of heads for me as I’m planning to swap out my PI-401s when they’re available. Can’t wait to compare them to my MC-501s.
Easy decision. Go with the Miura’s!
Stay with the 101's .. It looked like the front to back and the side to side dispersion was tighter.. consistency is king.. you can always adjust for distance.
The KM 700's look amazing but both are light years out of my price range. Give me a Wilson D9 all day.
Purely on looks, I'm a big fan of the km700. There's just something about chrome satin finishes on irons that really catches my eye. Having said that, if the MB101's were more of a glossy black (think black p790's), I think they'd be a winner. Guess that just makes me a magpie, fond of all things shiny.

How does the black QPQ finish hold up over time?
I would keep the 101's just purely on looks, the black blade just looks gorgeous, everything else seemed very close so would definitely keep the 101's

Tried 101s, 201s and finally bought the KM700, still very happy with this
Al...though on the Wilson Stave Blade and CB vs these two beauties. A toe-to-toe is needed.

As a Miura player, CB501’s, I have looked at KM’s. Not my favorite look at address. Too much offset, particularly in mid & scoring irons. Too thick top line as well. The MC502 may be more what you’re seeking. Nice thin top line, minimal offset in the mid & scoring irons. When you pure’em they are butter, so close to MB’s you won’t know difference. The condition spin & carry will be much closer to the MB. Just enough cavity off center to provide some forgiveness on mishits.
I would warn you, much of the yardage, ball speed and much of spin difference you’re experiencing is due to the much stronger lofts of KM. The MC too is quite strong by Miura standards.
If I were needing new irons, I’d demo the TC201 & MC502. I’d likely end up in the MC’s, would order them with traditional 36* 7-iron w/4* progression except the 25* 4-iron. Gives me perfect gapping and I’m not stuck carrying 4 wedges👍

What about the Wilson D9's?
If you change to the KM700s are you really going to be able to bring yourself to sell the MB-101s? Didn't think so. Test them both on the course, it's the only place that matters.
Have you tried De-caff?
I think its the MB's for sure. And I wanted the KM's to win so bad. Do the test 3 days in a row? Best 2 of 3? I agree though. 2 of the best looking and sounding irons maybe ever.
What is your view on how the black Miura wear? Love the black but have had bad experiences with other brands
Every black finish iron is iron oxide. The difference is how they get there. Some it’s either a salt or acid etch followed by an oil quenching. Requires minimal labor and it’s fast, much easier and cheaper than chrome plating fwiw.
Miura is only firm I’m aware using what we call QPQ; Quench, Polish, Quench. The key is the middle polishing step. The result is the smooth and semi-gloss finish. Technically it’s more fatigue resistant than chrome plating, will never flake or peel. It will however patina or fade a bit in impact areas, namely the face and sole. That will occur with all iron oxide finishes, regardless of methodology.
While some black irons and wedges will be dull and chalky either new or within minimal time, the Miura method, which has been used for decades in certain technical fields, should remain unchanged except in the impact zones.

Just got my cb 301 and by far the best set of irons I’ve hit and I’ve game some of the top irons like Titleist and Mizuno….. I don’t think I could go back to gaming anything else.

How on earth do you not have any chatter marks on the 101's? You've had those for nearly a season / cart only and they look like they like they just came out of the wrappers. The greedy part of my brain says to combo set since I couldn't pick between them but that's probably sin its own right.

I so want a set of km700 irons in my bag but not a perfect striker . One day maybe just to be able to take out on the odd occasions
If I could get my hands on km700s yes I’d love them. But my patience isn’t over a year for them haha. I’ll stick to my Mc-501s which I love more than any club I’ve ever hit by far.
You have the same issue as I do... I really like crazy, hot girls. They look good and I think that it will work out, but when they key your name into the side of your car, you need to reconsider. 25% of PGA tours use blades and they play everyday, the rest of us need help.

By far the KM700. For me anyway it would be an easy choice. You are used to hitting the MB the KM would be better with a little use.
I generally change them out every ten years or so. Now it may be that the new one may not necessarily be any better than the previous one, because they all have their little foibles and idiosyncrasies, but either way, we men are shallow creatures and will fall for the stunning good looks of the new model, and so it is with golf clubs too. Either one will cost dearly if you keep changing them out.
MB’s all day. I’d rather give up 3 strokes and have that one perfect shot than have above average without feel/sound - you know?

The numbers say don't change, but you have been playing the 101's so long that maybe it's not a fair challenge, especially if you didn't have your "A" swing. It seems natural that if you're a bit flippy, like you said you were for this challenge, you're going to compensate better with a club that you have playing longer

Difficult to say which one looks better. I prefer the MB-101 because it has less offset, not because of the look.

MB-101 7i loft is 34, KM-700 7i loft is 33. That may account for the extra distance.

Hi Al, You need to take the worst 3 shots of each club. Because golf is about how good your bad shots are. Average out the worst 3 shots and then see which of them gave you the best worst shots.... make sense? It did in my head before i typed it out. Then ask yourself, is that "betterness" worth the extra $3k AUD.
I know what you're saying on a generalisation but the bad shots were not consistent and hard to compare - would never compare in a fitting.
