Will never forget the feeling of going on an 18 footer as a wild teen and seeing the spinnaker pop after hoisting. Intimidating at that age but definitely gave a never ending love for 18 footers. Best sailing I believe to watch tho is 16ft skiff series in aus
Very envious. When I started sailing in 1971 I was in awe of the eighteens on Sydney Harbour but I have never been lucky enough to sail on one. Obviously different safety requirements in Europe as not a PFD in sight.
None of the sailors wear buoyancy aid's due to the chance of entrapment under the wings and sails etc. If you are unlucky enough to get caught underneath something you can then swim down and out to escape, rather than being forced up into the netting/ sails!
Great first person video. Love it!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Put me in the game coach! That looks awesome, thanks for sharing.
That looks way more fun than a Flying Scot.

That looked so fast! I remember one 18 footer (Nokia?) having just 2 up. Would have been a hairy ride.
Can't beat the old awesome aussie skiffs video of Nokia sending it downwind!
Prime computer was the two up 18. Julian Bethwaite was skipper.
Theyre super easy to steer. If you have raced dinghy's they're like buses to drive.
can i try next?
sure, why not!
👍💪
