honestly, i didnt cut and i passed the 300sl at the same place, just on the brakes into the corner, i nudged him out of the way of course. i think i tried this for like a month straight, every day, was incredibly frustrating and i have no idea how i did it. i think this mission is why i can visualise the entire track in my head...
There are games even on xbox 1 classic with better details (forza 1, and project gotham racing 2), but gran turismo 3 and 4 was using tricks in order to make you think it looks more realistic. For example car reflections are prebaked, lighting is prebaked, windows in cars were dark tinted in order to mask missing interiors and on top of that polyphony know how to use colors and texture work. So in the end game looked realistic, and it also run in 60fps. That's why I love polyphony games, they really know how to make use of available hardware resources in the best way possible
