The S type is a bit louder than stock with a bit of rumble within the exhaust system. This setup would be good for an engine with a cam,and or supercharger. With that you'd have a powerful growl. The ATAK system seems good for an off roader with straight piipes, headers ,cat cut outs, etc. That's gonna be pretty godamned loud.

Hello and Thanks in advance for your answers... I have two questions.. But first here what I have in case you need to take it into account. I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 Z71 4WD LT DBL 5.3L V8 ECOTEC3 (I also have a K&N Filter replacement system) 1.) Is the only difference between the Touring, S-Type, & ATAK, is the sound? all three would have the same performance gains? 2.) I've heard the video several times now. The emphases for noise is on acceleration (which would be logical). But is there a difference on (for example) when you are on a road trip - cruise control (not going up hills)? I do want that very awesome sound when I put my foot down... but dont want to speak louder so people can hear me when I'm cruisin' down the road. Have not heard what it sounds like from within the cabin (or seen any db meter readings). Once again - Thank you.....and I'm sure the saying have his cake and eat it to is coming to mind...lol
Hello. Thank you for your interest in our products! 1) The difference between all 3 systems will only be sound (Touring, S-Type, and ATAK in order of sound level. ATAK being the loudest). Performance will be the same. 2) Our exhaust systems are drone free and won't be overly loud inside the cabin while cruising. Please let me know if you have anymore questions.
Quick question. I'm sorry if this sound stupid but I just got to ask. I've been looking far and wide for the Borla ATAK on the 5.3L that has the dual exits going the same way (rear passenger side of the box). I've only been able to find such exhaust for the 6.2L, not the 5.3L. My question is, do you guys have that exhaust option for both engines or could I possibly run the 6.2L set up on my 5.3L?
Hi. Thank you for reaching out! Unfortunately, we do not offer the ATAK with the dual side exit for the 5.3L. Sorry about that. The system for the 6.2L is 3.5 inch pipe diameter into the muffler and the 5.3L is 2.75 inch into the muffler. The 6.2L system is NOT the appropriate pipe diameter for the 5.3L.
How much quieter is the Stype single exaust compared to the dual. my 19 crew cab short bed only allows for one tip. my options dont even let me get an attak
@@borla hi thank you for your response. Its a newer gen 2019 rst 5.3 crewcab shortbed. I ordered my s type today single exit. But my question still remains. Is the single exit quieter than the dual exit?
@@techwithdave5326 The single passenger side exit is slightly quieter, however, it's not a significant difference. It wouldn't be noticeable unless you were comparing the two systems in person side-by-side.
Thanks for reaching out. The Touring is going to be quieter on cold start, but is only slightly more aggressive than stock overall. If you are looking for something noticeably more aggressive than stock, you will most likely want the S-Type sound level.

In our testing, on a vehicle with no other modifications, part number 140546 averaged 98.8 dBs using test standard SAE J1492. Please note these tests were performed on a vehicle that was completely stock with the exception of Borla part number 140546.
Just bought the s type for my 2016 Silverado z71 double cab. Overall it sounds really good but... Why does it sound like a helicopter at around 65mph? I also have a K&N cold air intake.
Also could be because you drop into your overdrive gear and the engine is only working slightly harder than idle. My 97 ram sounded like that around that speed.
In our testing, on a vehicle with no other modifications, part numbers 140535 averaged 91.9 dBs, 140536 averaged 95.9 dBs, and 140537 averaged 98.8 dBs. Test standard SAE J1492 was used to obtain these measurements. Please note these tests were performed on a vehicle that was completely stock with the exception of Borla Cat-Back systems.
Just purchase a 2018, 5.3 Z71. I'd like to do the exhaust next year. How do these systems affect my warranty? I notices other exhaust components beyond my CAT converter that would be removed.
Hello. Thanks for reaching out! If you are located in the U.S., a cat-back exhaust system will not void your factory warranty under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. This system is also emissions legal as it leaves your factory catalytic converter in place. Thank you!

Hello. Thank you for your interest! Unfortunately, we do not currently have systems for the Silverado 2500. The systems featured in this video are only for the 1500.
Yes, we do plan on offering a system for the 6.0L Sierra 2500HD. We do not have a release time frame at the moment. It will most likely be a while as we have not brought the vehicle in for R&D.
The Touring is our mildest sound level and will only be slightly more aggressive than stock, but it will still be a noticeable improvement in sound compared to stock. However, most people do opt for the S-Type or ATAK.
Hi. Thank you for your interest in our products! The ProXS is generally a mild but deep sound. But since it is a universal muffler it is hard to tell how it is going to sound or how loud it is going to be. It all depends on the vehicle application.
Hello. Thanks for reaching out to us! Unfortunately, we do not sell the ATAK muffler separately. They only come in the cat-back system or for some vehicles we offer just the axle-back.
I just put the ATAK muffler only on my 2017 Silverado. I already had the stock exhaust replaced from the muffler back with 3" pipe, single in, single out of muffler, and it splits at the tailpipe into dual tips. Resonator removed. It sounds pretty good. Just got it Monday. Trying to decide if I like it over the Carven R. But I got the ATAK muffler only.

Aww okay then. Wanted to save a bit of weight but I guess the dual straight back will make due then. Thank you very much for the reply and knowledge!
I wanted the exact same set up but look Like imma have to stick with the S type .
How much quieter is the Stype single exaust compared to the dual. my 19 crew cab short bed only allows for one tip. my options dont even let me get an attak
Thanks for reaching out. Is your Silverado 1500 5.3L the 2019 LD from the previous generation or do you have the new generation 2019 model year?
@@borla hi thank you for your response. Its a newer gen 2019 rst 5.3 crewcab shortbed. I ordered my s type today single exit. But my question still remains. Is the single exit quieter than the dual exit?
@@techwithdave5326 The single passenger side exit is slightly quieter, however, it's not a significant difference. It wouldn't be noticeable unless you were comparing the two systems in person side-by-side.
I want an exhaust that does not wake up my neighbors at 5:00 a.m. every morning but gets loud when I get on it S type or Touring?
Thanks for reaching out. The Touring is going to be quieter on cold start, but is only slightly more aggressive than stock overall. If you are looking for something noticeably more aggressive than stock, you will most likely want the S-Type sound level.
Do they make the atak model for regular cab long beds?
Unfortunately, we don't have any Cat-Back systems for the 2014-2019 Silverado LD with a regular cab long bed. Sorry about that.
Will this fit my 2014 chevy Silverado extended cab LT 5.3 model ?
These systems will fit the Extended Cab with Standard Bed trucks. Please let us know if you need assistance with part numbers.
How much is a bolt on touring kit for a 16 year mo del 5.3
Hello. Thank you for your interest! The MSRP is $1,119.99, but you will get the better deal if you order from one of our distributors. Our distributors are about 10% off of MSRP with free shipping. I can help get you a part number if you can give me a little more information about your vehicle.
1) What is the cab and bed configuration of your truck?
2) What exhaust exit are you looking for? (split side or split rear exit?)

Very nice video
I bought this and installed it. I can hear it on this video, is that slight whistle normal I'm guessing?
Hi there, I'm sorry to hear that! We don't get complaints about whistling with these Cat-Back systems, please reach out to our Customer Service Manager at ChrisB@Borla.com and we'll be happy to take care of you. Thank you.
Would you happen to know the DB level on part #140546
In our testing, on a vehicle with no other modifications, part number 140546 averaged 98.8 dBs using test standard SAE J1492. Please note these tests were performed on a vehicle that was completely stock with the exception of Borla part number 140546.
Just bought the s type for my 2016 Silverado z71 double cab. Overall it sounds really good but... Why does it sound like a helicopter at around 65mph? I also have a K&N cold air intake.
its an Ecotech3 Engine. Around that speed the engine will drop to using 4 cylinders for better gas mileage. It will switch back to 8 when you need it.
Also could be because you drop into your overdrive gear and the engine is only working slightly harder than idle. My 97 ram sounded like that around that speed.
I would like to know how loud each exhaust is.
So a measurement
In our testing, on a vehicle with no other modifications, part numbers 140535 averaged 91.9 dBs, 140536 averaged 95.9 dBs, and 140537 averaged 98.8 dBs. Test standard SAE J1492 was used to obtain these measurements. Please note these tests were performed on a vehicle that was completely stock with the exception of Borla Cat-Back systems.
Did you guys take any db readings. With the new CA laws I want it but I don't want $1k fine also.
Thank you for reaching out. Yes, we do have dB readings for our systems. Which specific part number are you asking about?
Borla Performance Industries #140546
Just purchase a 2018, 5.3 Z71. I'd like to do the exhaust next year. How do these systems affect my warranty? I notices other exhaust components beyond my CAT converter that would be removed.
Hello. Thanks for reaching out! If you are located in the U.S., a cat-back exhaust system will not void your factory warranty under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. This system is also emissions legal as it leaves your factory catalytic converter in place. Thank you!
@@borla is a tune needed after the swap?
Looking into getting this S-Type. I have a 2016 5.3 Gmc But I'm a little concern how loud is it in the morning when I leave for work. very early in the morning don't want to piss off the neighbors. can you please advise I live in the north east and it gets cold in the winter months.
Does it have a drone in a 2015 GMC Sierra 2500hd with the 6.0? I just bought one and looking at a none droning one for the highway. I have an AFe exhaust on my xterra and it has a drone and don’t want that to happen on my truck.
Hello. Thank you for your interest! Unfortunately, we do not currently have systems for the Silverado 2500. The systems featured in this video are only for the 1500.
Borla Performance Industries Are you planning on making them for the 6.0? I would really like to have one on my truck.
Yes, we do plan on offering a system for the 6.0L Sierra 2500HD. We do not have a release time frame at the moment. It will most likely be a while as we have not brought the vehicle in for R&D.
Borla Performance Industries Well if you need a vehicle to work on, I’d be happy to bring mine down
Does anyone know the part number for the muffler???
Hi! I'm afraid we don't sell components separately from our Cat-Back systems.
@@borla so what if I have a true dual, I’d have to buy 2 kits?
l have a 2015 and l want to get an exhaust. l still want it to sound like a truck not a muscle car... suggestions?
The atak is the best bang for your buck
Y’all want it to sound like a truck? Get yourself a 30 pack of Busch Light and a sawzall. Hack away until hammered or pleased.
Buy flow master...better sound on any gm vehicle.
Curious as to whether or not the Touring would be enough just to get a more throatier sound out of my 2018 High Country
The Touring is our mildest sound level and will only be slightly more aggressive than stock, but it will still be a noticeable improvement in sound compared to stock. However, most people do opt for the S-Type or ATAK.
RIP i had my headphones on loud🤯
Juan Martinez same looool
do you have 4.3 v6 one available, would to hear what that sounds like
Hi, thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately, we do not have a Cat-Back system for the 4.3L V6 Silverado. Sorry about that.
The exhaust is the same for the 5.3 and 4.3 so I’m sure it would work. Would like to hear how it sounds too
Where does the pro xs fit in with sound?
Hi. Thank you for your interest in our products! The ProXS is generally a mild but deep sound. But since it is a universal muffler it is hard to tell how it is going to sound or how loud it is going to be. It all depends on the vehicle application.
Can you only get the atak muffler and not the entire cat back system?
Hello. Thanks for reaching out to us! Unfortunately, we do not sell the ATAK muffler separately. They only come in the cat-back system or for some vehicles we offer just the axle-back.
Hi. I apologize. We actually have confirmed that the current systems will carry over and fit the 2018 F-150s. Sorry about that and thank you.
Hi! Just out of curiosity. Which ATAK muffler do you have? Just want to make sure you don't have the cratemuffler.
Blake Mahon hey bud, i have a 2017 as well and only want to buy the atak muffler by itself and have a single out that splits. any chance you can upload a video? thanks buddy
Does it need a tune
Hello! You will not need a tune for a Cat-Back system.
Atak all day
Same
S type sounded the best. Nice and smooth
Do these systems come with the electronically actuated flap valve which actuates when V-4 mode turns on and off to reduce drone?
SuzukiKid400 I have the Touring (I think, long story on how I got it, but it was free, but it's not very loud at cruising speeds but sounds awesome during load) and no drone at all. In 4 cylinder mode or 8. At any speed. It's literally stock sound in cab unless you step on it. I'm actually extremely impressed. I came from a Blowmaster and I'll never go back.
Eric Kuhl ....i have a gmc with the 5.3. Im looking for a exhaust that sounds stock while crusing or stuck in l.a. traffic. But when i floor it...i want it a bit louder . Would you recommend this borla exhaust ? or jusr stay with the stock exhaust ?
I would go with the Toruing. Thats what i have and thats exactly how it is.
going to purchase the S-type or the ATAK today. was wondering how loud inside the cab the ATAK would be, any videos of the both of them from inside the cab? and I see several different part numbers on borla's website . I got a 2015 GMC Sierra 4 door short bed. which part number is the S-type and the AKAT for my truck
Thank you for your interest. Unfortunately, we do not have video or sound clips of what it sounds like inside the cabin. Our systems do not drone will sound very similar to stock during cruise. You will only hear our systems during acceleration.
We can help get you the appropriate part numbers, but we will need to know which exit style you prefer. We offer split rear, split side, and dual side exit. Also, we would like to make sure that you have the 5.3L engine and not the 6.2L. Once you confirm your engine and the exit style, we can provide you with the part numbers.
@@borla thanks for the reply! I just went ahead and ordered the ATAK system for my 15 gmc . really looking forward to getting it put on! but after spending all this money , do I get a Borla t-shirt or hat?
Yes, we include a hat with our systems! Thank you for your support!
Will this fit a 2014 silverado 1500 ltz double cab?
Hi. Thank you for reaching out. Yes, these will fit crew cab short bed/double cab standard bed. We also offer different exit styles such as dual side exit and split side exit.
@@borla recommend 3rd cat delete?
@@viixiconik We do not recommend deleting catalytic converters as you will not pass emissions testing.
Would these fit the 2 doors?
Hi. Thanks for reaching out! These part numbers would not fit 2 door regular cabs, but we do offer systems for the regular cab with standard bed. I can give you a specific part number if you give me more information.
1) What sound level are you looking for? (For regular cabs we only offer the S-Type and the ATAK)
2) How do want the exhaust system to exit? (Split rear exit or split side exit)
Did this truck still have cats?
Yes, our systems are Cat-Back systems and they retain the factory cats.
FLOWMASTER!!!
S type sounded good, attack not bad
I have the exact same truck , which one would y'all recommend ?
Hello. Thank you for your interest in Borla! What kind of sound are you looking for? We have 3 sound levels for this truck: Touring, S-Type, & ATAK. The Touring is a little louder & deeper than stock. The S-Type is deeper & more noticeably louder than stock. The ATAK is our loudest, most aggressive sound level. This video compares these 3 sound levels to the stock system so that you can hear the differences. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 1-877-462-6752 (Monday-Friday 7:30am-4pm PST).
Borla Performance Industries thank you , I have decided to buy the borla atak (:
Awesome! Thank you for supporting the Borla brand! Enjoy your new exhaust!
I have a new Z71 cant wait to add my Borla ATAK to my truck!! Plan on ordering very soon!
Video doesn’t do it justice. I had the Atak and it sounds way better in person.
Nice 😊
Man these things rev-hang really bad.. do sound good tho
What kind of performance benefits do these setups achieve?
neworder18 I think more air flow, so more horsepower of course. The straighter the exhaust system is the more air flow, but the bends give it that "crackle" sound.
HispanicCausinPanic around how much more horsepower would it add
FeaR Rage 3 HP if your lucky lol
Anthony Perez dude for freal i have 2016 v8
Lil Finnesse he’s not playing lol you’ll literally get nothing from this
I myself could care less about sound. In fact the quieter the wealthier for me. Which one provides the most horsepower/torque in a stock truck?
Does this add more horsepower
Hello. Thanks for reaching out! You can expect a gain of about 6-8 horsepower with this system on the vehicle.
Do these require a tune?
Hello! The systems do not require a tune.
I bought the atak. its worth it.
Chevelle Wilson how does it sounds from inside? While driving it
Stock exhaust is embarrassing
Try driving a 6 inch lifted 2020 trail boss on 35s. Mean looking truck and I have stock exhaust lol
Cut it off
These nuts
Sounds like a stick shift!
Jeff Davis: I noticed that too.
Jeff Davis
He is driving in manual mode shifting from + -
Hell yea!!
Long shifting GM automatic transmissions.
Roger Leon nope that’s shifting on its own. That’s how the new gm trans shift. They don’t lag and hang between gears like the old ones did. They shift fast. Silverados don’t even have a manual mode lol.
Meh.... i got the ATAK and was hoping it would sound as bad azz as the video. I was thinking I’d be waking up the neighbors and have petitions lodged against me for the loud noise. You barely notice it at all. Why are people saying this is off the charts and giving it red in the sound level? The bicycle I had with baseball cards on the spokes was louder than this.
