'The Song of Brigid's Cloak' - Traditional Song Workshop - sing along with Aileen and Nellie

- Traditional singer Aileen Lambert has a gorgeous song about St Brigid to share with you! It was composed recently by Catherine Ann Cullen as part of the ‘Songs for Our Children’ project and relates the story of Brigid’s cloak. When the King offered to only give her as much land as her little cloak would cover, the cloak magically increased in size to the amazement of the King! It extended to cover land which is now known as Kildare. The mean old King was so impressed he soon changed his tune and even offered to have his men build her church for her. “And that’s the story of Brigid's Cloak!” In the online video Aileen breaks the song down line by line and follows it with a sing-through complete with subtitles for ease of singing , so the whole family can sing along!
Aileen delivers traditional song workshops with the Heritage in Schools Scheme and Music Generation where she shares a bunch of songs suitable for Junior Infants to 6th class. Aileen recently produced her first album ‘The Wexford Lovers - Songs of Wexford & Newfoundland’ and spent a month collecting/researching songs in Newfoundland in May ‘19. With her partner Michael Fortune she produces national song projects with renowned traditional singers eg: 'The Bird Song Project', 'The 1916 Song Project', 'Songs for Our Children', with support from Arts Council, Local Authorities, Creative Ireland etc. She also also conducts local traditional song projects in communities in Co. Wexford, eg ‘By Land and Sea’, a songbook/double CD featuring over 30 local singers/songs from around Blackwater.
