      My female Shih Tzus are 5.5 lbs, 4.6 lbs, 3.4 lbs, and my super tiny girl named Mira Cole is 2.2 lbs and will be 2 yrs old on Feb 14, and was born at 2:14 am...lol. She's my miracle puppy, hence her name, but she's no longer a puppy. My one male, Boston Bartholomew (aka B.B.) is 3.8 lbs at his fatest. Small Shih Tzus are the BEST DOGS IN THE WORLD TO HAVE! You get all the joys that a fun-loving Shih Tzu has but in the size of a Teacup Yorkie or Chihwawa. Actually, 3 of my 4 are smaller than my girlfriend's Teacup Yorkies, and they're smaller than my neighbor's Teacup Chihwawas. Mine are the smallest Shih Tzus I've ever seen until this little girl on here. I'd say she's right around 4 lbs. I'd love to know where she got her from because mine are all black, black & white, and I get burgundy every now and then, but never all white!

    I rescued a pup out of Texas that went to an adoption agency in Massachusetts. She is allergic to chicken and I had to stop my family from giving her people food. She’s had skin infections galore. The 1 thing the vet didn’t ask was what laundry detergent we used. Found that children can have reactions to tide laundry detergent so I washed all her blankets and bed with a hypoallergenic detergent and that made a huge difference. Chicken also a problem for bully breeds and most treats including her pill pockets have chicken in them so she eats only dog food and hypoallergenic treats. She’s a different dog now!!

    My shitzu suffered from food allergies and was constantly scratching and licking her feet. I changed her diet and shampoo and I spray her with apple cider vinegar mixed with water. The ACV really made a big difference to my dog. I had spent a fortune at the vets and nothing they suggested worked. You have to make sure the dog has no breaks in the skin before spraying but I spray mine every few days to keep her comfortable.

    • @Listrynne
      @Listrynne 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I might try the ACV on my Shih Tzu. He licks his paws a lot, but I think it might just be anxiety. Do you spray it all over? What ratio do you use? I already got the best brand of food I can afford and a good fragrance free shampoo.

    I would have used Zymox Advanced Enzymatic leave on conditioner. My vet recommended it to me and the inflammation went away within a week! The vet said the enzymes used were anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-yeast. The shampoo and conditioner also have oat extract to stop the itching and the enzymes must have cleared it up! I would definitely recommend this to a dog experiencing this issue!

    • @GemmiRise
      @GemmiRise 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Zymox is amazing! I use the leave-in on my 15yo shih tzu/rat terrier & it works really well.
      FYI- Zymox ear solution is the ONLY thing that works for ear related issues, like yeast, infections, mites, etc...and I mean, literally THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS. I've always used the .5% hydrocortisone variety. 😉

    • @movememovement

      @@GemmiRise It truly is amazing. I wanted to figure out why it worked so I looked into the enzymes. The LP3 enzyme system they use have been around for a long time but never used together. Together they break down bacterial cell walls, starve the bacteria of iron so it can't hold oxygen, and then disinfect the wound. The product truly is amazing and it always works for me!

    It would have been nice if they said what the dog was eating before, and mentioned the results of the tests. My dog is allergic to chicken, that's all, but most dog food contains chicken, so I have to be careful and read the ingredient list. I don't think a single protein food for every single meal is necessary if you find out what your dog is actually sensitive to. I got lucky very early on, I gave my dog a piece of chicken and within half an hour he was going crazy scratching himself. Two days later I did the same thing, and got the same reaction. As long as he doesn't eat chicken, he's fine. It might not even be the chicken, but all the hormones and chemicals which are put into the birds.

    I took my rescue dog to be allergy tested (blood test). I also was told most dogs have environmental allergies rather than food related. We gave her medication to calm her skin down and I gave her allergy shot of a serum meant just for her. I was told to bathe her often to get the pollen or other plant material often. We eventually was able to wean her of the meds and shots and as and as long as I kept her clean she was fine. Now if she has a flare she gets a long lasting shot (usually in the fall).

    My little Tzu has the same problem. She itches and has breaking out. Scratches almost all the time and she smells! Her fur is falling out In places except her back because she can't reach it. I've taken her to the vet so many times but nothing seems to help! She is 12 and I'm afraid this itching and scratching will shorten her life. The vet has had her on predisone, a tablet just for allergies and now a shampoo that to be used every three days. I hope it works as its painful to watch her scratch and dig at her self.its bad enough that she has a cataract in one eye!

      Lots of dogs seem to have problems with chicken, mine does. Problems is, it seems to be in almost every dog food and treat you look at. I buy food without chicken, or chicken products in the ingredient list, and we are fine. Lamb, pork, beef, fish, all good sources of protein without using chicken. I mostly use raw, freeze dry. But Taste of the Wild have lots of interesting varieties of dry food without chicken or grain. You don't have to only buy what your vet tries to sell you.

      @@Jen.KJust started making my 15yo shih tzu/rat terrier's food. My girl is super picky, but she loves it! Eats EVERY last morsel!
      My 'recipe' (I wing it, no actual measurements, sorry. Lol):
      • Quinoa
      • Sweet potatoes (sautee 1st in olive or avocado oil, cook for 8-10mins but don't brown, add cpl cups water to skillet, cook until soft then mash)
      • Ground Turkey (tumeric add when cooking)
      • Veggie blend (add to gr Turkey mid-cook: peas, green beans, carrots)
      • I also keep the cooked water 'juice' in pan from cooked meat & drizzle a bit over her food & stir
      Do a cpl spoonfuls in her bowl of each, mix & done!
      *every so often, as a 'special' treat, I'll add just a little turkey sausage (plain, no flavor added)
      😉
      Forgot to mention that I also add salmon periodically as well. I get frozen fillets, cook in a lil EVOO or avocado oil for 3-5mins, add water to skillet until done, then add to food.

    Food allergies and environmental influences play a major role in our overall health and the same for our pets. Both my cats have allergies to grain and believe it or not-fabric softeners. We would wash the bedding and add fragrance free fabric softener, but we learned it still effects our pets. We feed our cats high quality, minimum ingredient, grain-free food, and leave out the fabric softener when cleaning their bedding.

    My cat has flare ups where she scratches the heck out of her ears and around her face sometimes even drawing blood. So far from trips to the vet it seems like it could be something that can happen with older cats and can be treated with steroid shots. So far it hasn't lead to that yet but I keep an eye on her. Thankfully it doesn't happen too often, but at nearly 12 it could start up more eventually.

      One of our cats get the itchies sometimes. Out of nowhere, you see his back start twitching, then he starts rapidly licking himself, then followed by running around and licking. He bites the tip of his tail so hard he cries. When that happens, he runs over to us and we give him a thorough scratching all over his back. If it persists, my mom gives him CBD oil to help relax him. The vet has never come up with any suggestions, so I have no idea why it happens. Btw, he is also coming up on 12.

      You need to find out what your dog is allergic to, it could be a food, most likely chicken. It could be something in the environment, or the chemicals in the shampoo you use. If I were you, I would eliminate all chicken from the diet, look at the ingredients carefully. Try it for a month and if the problem improves, that's probably the issue. Same with the shampoo, stop using it, use only warm water if you need to wash your dog, try for a few months and see if the problem resolves. Eliminate the common culprits and see if the problem goes away. Then introduce things back one at a time and see if the reaction comes back. Then you will have your answer. Good luck, my dog is allergic to chicken.

    I have come across dogs suffering with skin conditions. Change of diet to feeding raw meat, wash with a dilute Neem Oil, water and a soap for sensitive skin eases the itching.

    I wonder what the dog eats. Hopefully not chicken based kibble.
