I cannot say enough just how much respect I have for those such as yourself...you take what some consider a fast food throwaway, you make it top notch and profit from the leftovers on top of it all...mad props...keep on rockin!
U are the master of Toyota!!!! I fell in love with Toyota trucks when I was 5 or 6 years old. I appreciate ur skills and talent!!! So freakin awesome!!
You have got the best Toyota channel on TH-cam. Keep up the work with the great content. You have helped me so much with the work on my 1st gen Tacoma.
I think he works so well cuz he works alone. Sometimes times working alone is key to being able to accomplish so much. U knw without the distractions of people going in and out, or people talking to you. It's super therapeutic.
Here I am, coffee in one hand, phone in the other, with Austin getting at it casting on my big screen for the second weekend in a row, instead of me working on my jeep. This is starting to affect my weekend productivity.
In the beginning this video looks crazy, because of the fact that you just picked up the four door! However; once the video rolls it all makes perfect sense, and is actually the best solution for this particular build! Thank you again for taking us on this very driven journey with you. Your timing couldn't be any better! 👍
Hi Austin, my name is George, I'm mexican, you have a friend in Mexico whenever you come, I live in a border state with Texas and I enjoy all your videos, you always have me absorbed and entertained in what you do, maybe is because I have a Tacoma too and I want to do the same you are doing to yours. Mine is a 99 Tacoma, 4 cilinders, SR5, 4WD with automatic transmission and the locking hubs in very good shape with the original green color somewhat burnt, only the diferential blocker is missing (that´s because its not TRD) I bought the truck in $5000 dlls a year ago, it already came with new BF Goodrich All-terrain tires and I´ve just took it to the workshop to raised it 2 more inches and fixed few mechanichal details it had. Imagine everything I want to improve, a bumper and lights like your trucks, a LED light bar, I´m not sure if installing rolling bars or a cabin cover, that's because I need to use the truck to carry it too and I think if I install just a cabin cover will give more espace but I accept suggestions. My friends tell me to paint it in black so that it looks imposing, I will only leave the bumpers and bars in black but I want to paint the body in Jasper green metallic, I like more the idea of a more friendly and relaxed color, maybe with a tribal sea turtle tattoo in one side, to climb on my kayak or my camping equipment and escape to the lake or the beach, If I lived near you I would definitely take it to you to do the improvements. The truck Is a gem, every week someone enter my business to look for the owner asking if I sell it just like this without being fixed, but there´s something I want to ask you, since I bought it the only thing I noticed, I feel that the engine does not develop so smoothly, its slow, as it lacks power on pavements streets with very steep slopes, but in flat streets and rough terrain slopes works amazing, I never had a Tacoma, its my first truck, so I dont Know if that specific truck is like that, or if is because is 4 cilinder, or what could it be?? So, others questions I have if you could be so kind to answer me, are these: I know how the differential blocker works, but not the locking hubs, could you explain me the difference? Can a differential blocker could be installed even with the locking hubs without one affecting the other? Can the engine be changed by the V6 3400 without problems, so still works fine or even better??
Austin, I have noticed over numerous episodes you are relatively safety conscious. I implore you to keep it up, always! My best friend this past year was helping his brother work on a truck. The truck slipped off of the blocks and the training landed directly on his chest and abdomen! It is a miracle he survived, but, it broke and separated his sternum, as well as broke every single rib on both sides in two or more places each!!! Months in the hospital (alone - COVID), months in rehab, he is mostly recovered, but his lung capacity will never recover and remains at around sixty percent (60%) of what it was! PLEASE BE SAFE!!! No truck is worth your life or health. Peace!! Love the channel!
Austin a little tip regarding your concrete blocks stabilizing the parts truck, always stack the blocks as they would be used in building a foundation. The way you have them the webbing can collapse.
safety advice on those cinderblocks. The way you have them positioned is stressing their weakest dimension. Also wood between the blocks and surface on soft ground and wood between block and frame. Great build, always wanted to do this on a quad cab + tdi ;)
Great series. I would definitely re-build that manual transmission while it is fresh in your mind and see how fast you can do just for fun. I am the 2nd owner of an 89 SR5 double cab with now 29K original miles so I like watching your builds. Thanks for posting.
My son drives a 99 extended cab 4x4 , 3.4, 5 speed manual trans, manual locking hubs. I’ve always told him it’s a unicorn Tacoma. Can’t wait to see the process of changing the front wheel bearings since his might need them soon.
Learning alot watching your videos. I have a 99 4runner, found out what was wrong from watching your video. Good job on your builds. Had to get parts put to rural Alaska, but thank you so much for your great videos.
I have a 99 taco I bought from family with manual transmission and hubs and less than 150k on the odo. Realizing I am sitting in a damn unicorn. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this one!
I love seeing your channel grow! The videos you produce are top-notch and the quality of your work is phenomenal - I learn something new from every video you release, and love watching your work! Keep it up :)
Obviously you will keep the parts taco till you finish. nothing better than walking around the back of the shop and getting some little part or bolt to complete a job!! I think your duel cab is going to be awesome!!
When you're doing a swap like this, a donor vehicle is the way to go. Sometimes some necessary parts like brackets you can't even get from the dealer and most wreckers destroy small parts.
Look at CVJ axles. They use Toyota steel and reboot with high quality boots. I used them for my second gen. I got the red boots for lifted applications. It’s worth the price. I’ve never had any issues. If you plan on off-roading the truck I’d get higher quality axles than Napa. Love watching your vids! Keep up the good work!
My99 has napa axels and I bought empi brand boots because the boots were split, when we went to change them the new boots were smaller in every dimension. Could barely stretch them on the cv’s and tripod cups , had to really force the axles through them and since they were shorter overall they aren’t in the grooves on the axle but just on the axle about an inch closer to the joint, otherwise they would be stretched way out. I wish the guy before me rebuilt the originals. I’m pretty sure the empi boots I bought would fit the originals because the seller has sold a lot of them and I’m pretty sure if I bought boots at the auto parts store they would fit the originals ( how could they not) So where can I get boots to fit these stupid Napa half shafts?
FYI, converting to manual hubs on the 1st gen Tacoma is easy. You just need IFS hubs from an 1986-1995 truck or 4Runner (or Tacoma) and they simply install in place. 4WD Toyota Owner magazine did a write up on this a couple of yrs ago and I was surprised how simple it was.
wife looked at me weird when I told her I wanted to be Austin's apprentice/cameraman. I dont have the expertise, tools or garage that he does, but I'm working on it. these vids are good therapy and training until then.
Awesome builds brother. I’ve been watching for about a year now I come from devins Channel. I would love to see a Toyota hilux build lol that’ll be awesome 👏🏼
Nice! Wondering if you can somehow rig up the truck bed to use as extra cargo storage for a camping trip? Weld a hitch attachment and set if up w a matching paint job and wheels.
This s getting really good. And I already hav an idea for the next build (after the Tacoma s don) Idk if it’s something u wanna try but I would. In fact I’m starting next year. A muscle car body on a Toyota pickup, Hilux’s or Tacoma frame 😏
It's been my experience that mechanical is Always better and more reliable. As for the rest of the truck there's a lot of $$ in the small parts, good thinking you know what you're doing 👍👍 BTY I would save the lower control arm's incase there different than the prerunner and now would be a good time to put lockers in hint hint.
Meanwhile down here in crime ridden South Africa , where even auctions rig their prices, I paid the equivalent $5500 for a total wreck of a 2000 Tacoma/ hilux gen 3 2.7i rwd 5 speed with bent frame and a non runner. Literally everything had to be rebuilt. You guys are so fortunate to pick these things up for almost nothing. God have mercy on our land and its people lol.
Just curious, if you're going to all the trouble to do a swap, why not go with a solid front axle with locking hubs? Seems like it might be less work for a stronger setup in the long run. Nice work btw!
I'm sure you got it all figured out, but I assume your swapping all the electronics? I know those years aren't compatible, so it'll be great to see you tackle those issues. Good stuff🤘🤘
Best of luck with your truck.. We are huge fan of these trucks here in Pakistan.. But our the most popular and favorite one is Toyota Hilux double cabin and Land Cruiser n there are ton of these here on road.. Cars are a bit expensive here.. New Hilux is for 80k$, Forunner(Aka Surf here) 100k$ and Land Cruiser, 200 series, the most prestigious car in Pakistan is upto to 200k$.. I wish I culd buy ny1 of these evn if it's an old model 🙁.. I miss my hilux, miss it bcoz I lost my job to covid.. I feel sad..
You don't think Toyota axles are stronger than Napa? I was going to go with aftermarket axles when my boots tore but I wanted to keep my OEM ones as I read a lot that the Napas didn't last long. I ended up rebuilding and booting mine. I wheel a lot tho.
Yes you can swap 1st gen taco manual hubs to 3rd gen 4runners. I'm running them on my 4runner. I actually did the same conversion Austin is but on my 4runner.
You are one very busy dude. I’m enjoying this build. Looking forward to the rest of your videos.
I cannot say enough just how much respect I have for those such as yourself...you take what some consider a fast food throwaway, you make it top notch and profit from the leftovers on top of it all...mad props...keep on rockin!
Thanks man!
It’s amazing to watch somebody who knows what they’re doing
U are the master of Toyota!!!! I fell in love with Toyota trucks when I was 5 or 6 years old. I appreciate ur skills and talent!!! So freakin awesome!!
Well that spanner trick for to get the flywheel bolts out was just mind blowing! Awsome stuff man!
Another one!🤯 Damn man you just keep rolling with the yotas! Love it man!
You have got the best Toyota channel on TH-cam. Keep up the work with the great content. You have helped me so much with the work on my 1st gen Tacoma.
I agree, ever since i got mine i wanted to watch videos about them and this dude is the best
Ive got so much respect for your skills man. Its really impressive that you learned how to do all this by yourself
I think he works so well cuz he works alone. Sometimes times working alone is key to being able to accomplish so much. U knw without the distractions of people going in and out, or people talking to you. It's super therapeutic.
I work alone often. I get more done...😉
Here I am, coffee in one hand, phone in the other, with Austin getting at it casting on my big screen for the second weekend in a row, instead of me working on my jeep. This is starting to affect my weekend productivity.
Nobody can find cheap Tacomas anymore bc Austin got em all
Just going to put this out there... This is the best Yota builder on youtube!!

Darryl is correct. I was worried about the young fella there seeing him stack the blocks that way !
Better yet. Don’t use cement blocks. We’ve all done stupid things and survived but there are plenty that did it one time too many.
safety advice on those cinderblocks. The way you have them positioned is stressing their weakest dimension. Also wood between the blocks and surface on soft ground and wood between block and frame. Great build, always wanted to do this on a quad cab + tdi ;)

"beater." That's an understatement 😊
Hell Craigslist add would be...
Gently rolled and never abused... garage kept, OG tacoma. $10k OBO... no lowballers I know what I got! Ha ha
Learning alot watching your videos. I have a 99 4runner, found out what was wrong from watching your video. Good job on your builds.
Had to get parts put to rural Alaska, but thank you so much for your great videos.
Toyota is life🙏🏾🔥
You have me looking for a nice Tacoma around my local junk yard... would not mind driving one you inspire me to build.
I have a 99 taco I bought from family with manual transmission and hubs and less than 150k on the odo. Realizing I am sitting in a damn unicorn. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this one!
Ambitious project, can’t wait to see it happen! Great video, 🤞🏼
U r d best car rebuilder..ur genius Austin
Great work. Really enjoyed watching
Awesome informative video man! Thank you. My kids n I love them. I wish I coulda got your motor from you for my rust free 92 swap!
Definitely Great idea to have all the Extra Parts for the Build Bro... Can't wait to See what the truck is Gonna look like... 🤘💯👍
I keep getting more excited about watching this build. And yay! The world’s cutest tractor made an appearance.

GO AVR
GREAT WORK AUSTIN... Can't wait to see where you go with this build... RESPECT all the way from South Africa...👍🏻👌🏻
I love seeing your channel grow! The videos you produce are top-notch and the quality of your work is phenomenal - I learn something new from every video you release, and love watching your work! Keep it up :)
Wow, thank you!
1996 was a great year for the Tacoma. First year of the 5VZ-FE and it retained some of the body characteristics of the earlier model
Obviously you will keep the parts taco till you finish. nothing better than walking around the back of the shop and getting some little part or bolt to complete a job!!
I think your duel cab is going to be awesome!!
Keep up the good work
Big fan from Afghanistan 🇦🇫👍
Poet and didn't know it.
Great project👍
Sweet!! I’ve bolted up 4x4 on the prerunner love tacos 🌮
Love your videos...so much better without music!

15:55 Diesel Passat AWD maybe!?! I would enjoy the heck out of watching that too
👌👌
Good job bro
Good video bro, looking forward to seeing what you do with the new project. Just a side note man you got a huge property 🤙🏽
Before you sell the rear axle/diff. you might want to check the front diff is the same ratio as the diff on the project truck
Smart choice buying that beat-up Tacoma.
Austin over here making toyota bad ass, while whistling deasiel over there is straight destroying them.
I blocked his channel
Then my mate sends me a text
(Whistling diesel New video out)
I turned off my phone,
I can’t watch it,
Can’t wait to see that double cab 5 speed swap
Great video, learning a lot.
Parting this beauty could make back that $1500 you spent, meaning you got a free swap to 4x4. Best builds out there love it
Awesome builds brother. I’ve been watching for about a year now I come from devins Channel. I would love to see a Toyota hilux build lol that’ll be awesome 👏🏼
you sir are a smart man! I would have done it that way as well.
Hola saludos desde Ecuador estare pendiente de tu próximo video para ver los avances de la Tacoma
Every 96 Tacoma in Kentucky has already been recycled into a 2008 Tacoma, and a 2019 Tacoma....
Can’t get over how little rust is on that truck.
I was thinking the same thing! Up here in upstate NY these poor trucks disappeared long ago.
Nice! Wondering if you can somehow rig up the truck bed to use as extra cargo storage for a camping trip? Weld a hitch attachment and set if up w a matching paint job and wheels.
I might be wrong but I think he likes Tacomas
Nice job man 👌👌
Thanks 🔥
Making quick work of it
Awesome projects. I’d like to see you reimagine an old FJ Land Cruiser, 90’s Land Cruiser, or FJ Cruiser.
Stoked for this
Does it idle good ? I need the throttle position sensor
Sounds like you are doing it right!!!! And it is hard to find the truck also!!!
You will sale alot other things too!!!
Good thinking Woody
keep it up our dear brother, we wait the next video with excitement, we like you so much from Beautiful and blessed Country Ethiopia.
Disassembley Ninja !
This s getting really good. And I already hav an idea for the next build (after the Tacoma s don)
Idk if it’s something u wanna try but I would. In fact I’m starting next year. A muscle car body on a Toyota pickup, Hilux’s or Tacoma frame 😏
Well done ....YOTAMAN

Yer not going to good in SA,
Hope you and your family are ok,
I like the B-roll man
Great video. I don't see a helper. If you are doing this all yourself, I am very impressed 👏 👌 👍👊💥😎
Just curious, if you're going to all the trouble to do a swap, why not go with a solid front axle with locking hubs? Seems like it might be less work for a stronger setup in the long run. Nice work btw!
are the wheel cover things for the manual hubs going to be for sale?
Floor jack cam made a return 😏
If that truck has factory cruise on it I need everything from firewall to wheel. My truck is lacking that but has everything in the engine bay
I'm sure you got it all figured out, but I assume your swapping all the electronics? I know those years aren't compatible, so it'll be great to see you tackle those issues. Good stuff🤘🤘
Was wondering if you still have the wheels and how much would you sell them for without the tires
The long bed was going in the 4 doors ?? Saludos desde argentina
while you have the front diff out do the ECGS clamshell bushing, trust me it's well worth it even with a diff drop
What upper ball joint seperator tool are you using?
Thats just a adjustable pitman puller
Did the crashed one have any lift parts on it?
Looking forward to it!!
Omg, your the best!
Jason.. You still got the front seats for this? I've been looking for some in reasonable shape..
Does the radio still work in the beater? Because I bought a Tacoma and the radio in it is busted :/
Best of luck with your truck.. We are huge fan of these trucks here in Pakistan.. can you swap the tacoma locking hubs to the 4runner?
Yes you can swap 1st gen taco manual hubs to 3rd gen 4runners. I'm running them on my 4runner. I actually did the same conversion Austin is but on my 4runner.
I wish I could pick up that motor from you and swap it into my 91 pickup!
Great video, but those cinder blocks could explode at any time. Theyre designed to have the holes vertically. Otherwise, keep up the great work.
Good yota content
I wish I lived in the same village as you. I would drive to your garage on my 1986 Toyota Hilux 4wd.
a "rebooted" OEM toyota axle is still 1000X better than a "new" Napa one. Don't buy aftermarket
How's the frame? Still straight? Rust?
Frame is good! Has normal surface rust
Yesssirrr love your videos men!
More good content man this project will be sweet
