It’s surprising to see Punk, Mena and Zhen out so soon… Then again, I think we have to keep an eye out for Dual Kevin. As I covered in one of my videos, he was able to take out Daigo!! Definitely a force to be reckoned with!

@@Pepitossj4 It's definitely a volatile game! Punk is still the most skilled player in the world, but this is the worst possible version of punk that we could have gotten for a tournament. Literally looked like he was sleep deprived, melatonin gate, and didn't even put up a fight. It's not about skill it's about who has the biggest momentum that day with sf6.
Xioahai looked damn string with Lord bibson… i’d watch out for him but there’s still a couple more groups to go.
For anyone questioning prize pools just remember this is basically a tournament that basically got a government grant. evo is essentially a fan run convention. They can only go as far as sponsors payout, ticket sale profits, and they have more lesser played titles with guaranteed pools all stage titles had at least 30k split for pool even the one with the least entrants. This isn't even mentioning the convention center cost and production costs where as EWC probably gets the building for "free".
You can't really say it's a "fan" run convention when it was bought by Sony. Any other tournaments, sure, but EVO has evolved beyond grassroots efforts and is viewed by almost 4 million people worldwide. Nobody's really asking for a million dollars, but $20k for the largest open bracket tournament? That's embarrassing.

Thanks for taking some time at the start of the video to at least somewhat address things with the tournament. Outside of a few people like ChrisCCH and Sajam who have explicitly spoken out against EWC, it's more than what most people with platforms in the fgc have done.
If you belong to any of the groups the govt running EWC criminalizes, EWC coverage has kinda been like watching the govt of a place flaunt how little it would take to get your entire community to sell you out and give them a free pass to keep doing things I can't even type out without getting flagged, and would readily do to you if it weren't for geography. Then watching the people you've played against, respected, and been friends with going "yeah, they're right, it really was that little, sorry".
It is what it is. It just sucks and ngl anyone who choose to be involved or uncritically covered it kinda loses the right to talk about things like "community" in the fgc again after this.
it's really sad thinking about how many people tolerate this for money :(

Thank you for actually mentioning the sportswashing happening here! I think it's a real shame that the FGC has been co-opted by a brutal and soulless monarchy to distract from the disgusting human rights violations happening there. I've lost so much respect for the people involved in this, but it is nice to be able to see what's happening in the tournament without supporting the EWC.

Ngl angrybird looking scary and i think he's the only one who won 6-1 in both his games with xiohhai!! The level of matches were absolutely ridiculous! I never saw a more exciting day 1 of tournament in so many years! Most matches are final game final round! 2-3 All gone to the wire! The production value too is S tier! Loved the format! This is all killers no fillers.. the face off between mena and zhen, the medal crushing.. absolutely amazing stuff

This is actually the shake up that is great for the meta. We normally would of seen top tier players only pic certain characters to win in this situation (end of sfv) but in this game and meta no character really is guaranteed to outshine another and “top5” really is irrelevant in this state of the game.
Mena and Punk being out killed the Tourney for me lol. Good luck to whoever wins though.

Dual Kevin lost Frosty Faustings this year to Punk as well. He's been knocking on the door for the past couple of years now. I think he is the best player in the US Midwest and he is a top 5 player in the US right now. I'm rooting for him.

I’m liking this “…Let me explain” opening.
Punk said in some fairly recent video that Xiao Hai isn't very good at Street Fighter 6. Said something along the lines of this ain't King of Fighters. People were hyping up Punk because he won SF6 at EVO and don't get me wrong, he played amazing and earned it. Meanwhile Xiao Hai placed in the top 32 at EVO in SF6, but he also placed that high while winning an entire other tournament in King of Fighters XV (which is a much harder game than SF6 because you have to know 3 different characters and the game has stricter inputs). Also he's won at EVO 4 different times. Now he's solely focused on SF6 for this tournament and is killing it while Punk got eliminated early. There is no denying how good he is anymore. Put some respect on his name.

Difficulty isn't about how many characters you have to learn, it's about the competition. I think most people who are only playing one game have simply decided not to play Kof and instead are playing something else, like SF6. SF6 is just the smarter choice of game, more competition, more prestige, better content for content creators, bigger prize pools and more of them to be had. There's just no real reason to be playing Kof unless you're just a fan.
Kof had 375 entrants, the lowest of all the games at Evo, because all the killers are in SF6.
That's not to say Xiaohai isn't clearly a decent SF6 player, but your assessment is just wrong. The one and only thing that matters when talking about SF6 is their performance in SF6, not these random ass excuses. Hes showing up at EWC, that's what actually matters.

You view 375 players as not a lot and weak competition, I view it as only the killers for that game from around the world are entering. You're gonna find very few scrubs playing it competitively at EVO. Just because top level SF6 players you've heard of aren't playing KoF or any other game, doesn't mean that game doesn't have killers of their own.

Yeah and the players treat EWC/CC more seriously than EVO now. EVO now is just a qualifier for the big tournament at the end.

Really starting to get tired of how Rashid Lvl2 is rapidly becoming the equivalent of 3S Chun SAII- it shuts down an opponent's gameplan so completely, gets used multiple times a match, and is totally oppressive. Not fun, both to watch and play against.
