I had the Astro A50s and loved them. After about three years-ish the headband started sliding down the on the metal rod (the old ones had a plastic rod rather than metal). They were still useable, just annoying to have to adjust it back to where I wanted it every time before putting the head set on. I decided to get the Arctis 7s as a replacement and instantly regretted it. About a month later I bought Astro A40s and fell even more in love than I was with the A50s. The Astro A40s you reviewed are NOT the newest A40s as you said in the video. The newest ones come "Tournament Ready" with noise cancelling and VERY soft poly ear cushions (I can not hear my wife talking four feet from me, she hates it), noise cancelling mic to where I can vape with the mic right next to my mouth and it won't pick up the loud vape noise, cool-looking ear side replacements and a more comfortable (and also more cool-looking) piece on the top of the headband that rests on your head. If you already have the A40s that you reviewed in the video you can buy these upgrades in a kit that Astro sells online or at Best Buy. You can hear the sound quality in the mics in the video, the Arctis portion of the video sounded horrible compared to the Astro portion. I have the PS4 version of the A40s that I use on both PC and PS4. I do not need to change any cables to hear both PS4 and PC at the same time. I have the USB cable going into my PS4 and the optical cable going into my PC, however I can not use my mic on the PC since the mic only works through USB. I could switch the cables if I wanted to talk through PC and still hear PS4 though. The in-line mute switch on the A40s you had was strange, as mine has an in-line button (rather than switch) that is very easy to push. It takes about 0.2 seconds to go from hands on the controller or m&kb to pushing the in-line button to mute the mic. I HIGHLY recommend getting Astro A40s for whoever reads this and is trying to decide what headset to get. You will not regret it.

I think you got an older gen A40 TR. The mix amp with mute and off button is the older. I just got the new TR PRO + Mix Amp and they are exactly the same as Gramps has in this video. This A40’s TR + Mix Amp Pro have V2 Tech and dolby tech on them. Besides these, the only ones that have that on the Astro line are the A50’s Gen 4, the new ones and the TR’s that they released on the website last month, the colorful ones that cost 200 bucks. Check on their website and you will see that they even sell these from the review without the mix amp. The previous gen isn’t even in the website anymore.
      Have a good day! :)

Well... I had Arctis Pro + dac for 3 years. They "pre-broke" so I sold them cheap. I realised my headset had tiny crack near hinge. I used google and found so many dissapointed people have the same problem as I did. I took care of my headset and didn't throw them or used any violence. This is clearly manufacture error. Soon without proper fix they will break and headcups will tear apart. Use google and you'll see what I mean. If you have steelseries or will buy them, you could have same problem, I warn you.
Now for a month I have used Astro A40 TR, mixamp and hdmi adapter... Astro is the best! I use these with PS5. Sound is awesome! Quality build and... well basically everything is great. Nothing bad to say. These are premium headsets! Mixamp really gives boost. I don't miss those Arctis Pro headset.

  • @nwatson13
    @nwatson13 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

I've owned both sets. Along with the wireless versions of both.
The Arctis Pro line is OK at best right out of the box. You really have to find that perfect custom EQ setting for the DAC or else you're really limiting the potential on these guys.
The SteelSeries chat mix is probably the worst I've ever experienced on console though..You either hear the game or you hear your party chat. This is my biggest complaint about these -- I need to be able to hear my team as well as the footsteps of the guy sneaking up on me. I've had this issue on both Wired + GameDac and the Wireless Pro versions. The mic quality gets a lot of complaints but i thought it was great. I would say that these are the more comfortable of the two.
I wanted to love the SteelSeries because I purchased them for such a great price during the March sale but was very underwhelmed and have since mailed them back for a refund.
When I tried the A40's for the first time, they literally made me want to upload a product review cause they were so good and how pleased I was with this purchase. Coming from the Hyper X Cloud II, the Astros were a huge step up. Straight out of the box, the A40's were (and still are) amazing. I found that with the SteelSeries, I'd spend a lot of time searching reddit posts about decent FPS EQ settings (and could never really find one) -- The stock MixAmp settings are perfect. I do have custom presets for different games but generally, the stock Astro setting will do. The only issue I've ever had with the A40 is the in line audio cable going out on me. Quick fix.
I honestly cannot think of anything that Astro is doing wrong or anything thats really bothered me.. Even though i've had my fair share of "high end" headsets, I always find myself coming back to the A40's.
Both sets are great for different reasons. For a competitive advantage, mainly FPS, I definitely would recommend the Astros. For mixed usage (games, music, movies) go for the SteelSeries.

Not kidding, you look and sound just like Doctor Otto Octavius in Spider-Man PS4 which I think is awesome. Thank you for clearing this up. When I was getting my first legit gaming headset, I was stuck between the arctis 3 (I think) and the Astro A40 headset, which of course, I got the Astros because I think at the time they were $50 cheaper, but now looking back, I realize that the Arctis Pro are just a little bit better than the Astros and at a near price. My Astros are in still pretty good shape (albeit I cracked the top band when setting them down too hard and now have it wrapped up in duct tape to keep it secure), but I've always had the idea of getting or at least trying out the Arctis Pro to compare, and from what I've seen in this video, the Arctis are a very worthy replacement if not upgrade. Thank you.

    I've tried BlackShark V2 Pro's (Razer)
    I've tried MMX300s (BeyerDynamics)
Both just don't even come close to the 650s
Do you think the Arctis Pro sounds somewhat familiar?
What I miss in bouth the Blackshards and the MMX300s is the punchy but crisp base.
When I give both of them more base, they overshadow the rest.
On the 650s, the Bass can be thumping from me shooting, but I can still pinpoint footsteps, too.
In general, the 650s just seem more alive!

The only thing I really like is the mic on this and the chat balance between chat and game. I also like that it doesn’t drop out much and that you can turn on the Xbox with the headset. This is all just my opinion, let me know what you think is a better gaming headset as I think I’m still going to have a look about, I want something that has a good mic and chat, plus good sound quality(gaming)

Do not get either of the Hyperx ones on console, as they are not made for it. The Sennheiser Gsp 300 are also very good sounding. Either of those will work :) (gsp 300 good for pc, but not console. Hyperx cloud alpha good for pc, but not console. Arctis 5 good for every system. I would not recommend the cloud 2 over any of the other ones)

    I’m so undecided! Help!
    A40? 9x? Stealth 700?

Can I use the steel series Arctis pro with the Astro mix amp? Because I have astros right now but all I need is a new headset and I wouldn’t need the DAC if I can use my Astro mix amp with the Arctis
