- Checking out a totally rad little vintage Akai reverb unit.
Sounded a bit better than I thought it was going to and scores lots of points for simplicity with all the controls being knob accessible on the front of the unit. Guitar I'm playing is an old Greco lawsuit Les Paul Jr, plugged into my modest little pedal board, then into a Two Rock 50/15 that's mic'd up with an Audix i5 and a Royer 122 MK-II.
Lovely. My wife is moving her foot to the music and wouldn't get I'm watching a reverb demo.
Ok CW, you found something I don’t recall seeing before, amazing.
Step one ( of many ) to become Bill Frisell.. Nice demo , Clifton.., as always..
Haha thanks, I love Bill’s playing. I’ll put together a more cohesive arrangement to showcase the next unit I’m still fixing up (an old midiverb 2 and a Boss rack delay from about 83/84) and, hopefully, that can be step 2 lol
damn cliff! you were groovin here.
Awesome master! I could listen you all day long. Beautiful clean tones ! ;-)
Cool little unit and amazing playing, as always!
Thanks man!
Amazing
Thank you for stopping by!
😯 never seen nothing like it!!😎🎸🎶 Thanks Cliff
Thanks for hangin out Richard!
@@cliftonwright7081 always a pleasure!!
Nice chops!
Thanks, man! I’m mostly just a meat and potatoes guy but I appreciate the kind words
Most AKAI gear is competent without being exciting, although I really liked their D4 and D5 drum rack modules from the early 90s. Their dinky little piano desktop module was cool too. However this reverb unit surprised me, as it has a nice depth to it and does not sound over clinical or bright.
Yeah, it kinda has that 12 bit magic with some well done algorithms. Surprised me too since most knob jobs sound kinda cheap compared to my Lexicons or higher end Yamahas
Do you ever see any record lathes when you’re looking around those wonderfully insane Japanese music stores?
Hmm, might have. It’s been a few years since I’ve been in Tokyo
@@cliftonwright7081 it’s a shot in the dark. If you ever happen to see one let me know. Love your channel.
12 hospital bits sound good
Haha yeah medical grade is usually better than military grade.
@@cliftonwright7081 If you ever come into possession of an Air Force stash of NOS tubes please demo all their superior fragile harmonics thereby crushing the crystal lattice.
@@danielrose703 haha hell yes, I love Howard’s Trek techno babble. Dumble amplifiers emit Tachyon particles so your tone actually goes into the future and past simultaneously.
Steve Morse kinda tone.. 🙌❤️
Have you tried the Digitech DSP 128 + Clifton?
Not yet! I do have an RP1 though
dude those licks at the end where sick! was that malmsteen for a bit?
Thanks man! Yeah, I used to spin those Malmsteen tapes like crazy when I was a kid, so much tone and feel despite the raging speed
HARD OFF (Famous Used Stop in Japan) strap lol
cute!!
YES! Almost every piece of gear I own is from Hard Off.
@@cliftonwright7081 Wow, liveing in my country!?
Enjoy Hardoff Tour & Yahoo Auction 🔍 😁😁😁
@@daijununo yeah! I’ve been in Japan For five years now but I’m moving to Germany in a couple months. Going to miss it a lot.
@@cliftonwright7081 too bad to find vintage gear...😭
definitely you'll wanna be back to japan!
can we discuss the elephant in the room? that gorgeous Jr. you're playing. What it is?
It’s an old 80s Greco copy from Japan that I refretted. It’s a really awesome guitar!
@@cliftonwright7081 outstanding. i gotta look for one of those. do you know the model? hows the neck? fat?
@@geezberry8889 it’s a little more tame than a baseball bat or boat neck, definitely comfortable. I don’t remember the model but if you google “Greco les Paul jr” it’ll pop right up. They made some killer copies in the late 70s through the 80s.
Where did you study or are you self taught..?
Self taught!
