I'm only getting into Classical music now in my 30s, but Tchaikovsky stands out to me above the rest in terms of how cinematic, emotional and powerful his music feels. You can see the influence he must have had on composers like John Williams, the feeling of menace and power conveyed in the Swan Lake theme feels the granddaddy of the Imperial March
Well... it seems that John Williams was not only "inspired", but also "borrowed" his music from great classical composers. Listen also to the Symphonic suite "The Planets" by Gustav Holst, written in 1914-1916. Perhaps after that you will be able to doubt the fact of the authorship of the music for "Star Wars". Hollywood has obviously, to put it mildly, borrowed a lot from these composers.
When someone writes a book, they paint what they feel when they see others. When you compose you compose events, I think. I always dreamt of composing what I see, but it was the same as being a writer or a painter.
