    You might appreciate my recent $13 Garage Sale story. Luckily I was in the car, but last Saturday I walked up to the house, which is right around the corner from me. I picked up a MPJA benchtop power supply model 9333PS. I also got a Tektronx T935 oscilloscope. (There was another scope, but it looked even older.) I got these for $5 each. I asked the guy if he was a repair person, but he said no, he had just purchased a storage unit with this stuff in it. There were a few other cryptic kinds of test equipment, probably for phone, or ham radio related, lying around, too. Then, I spotted a serger type sewing machine on a table. It was covered in dust, but they said it worked. I got it for $3, and it turns out the Juki MO-104 goes for something in the $400 range in the ebay world. The original reciept from 1983 says it really hasn't gone down in value. Now I need to learn how to sew.

    Your vids have given the electronics itch. Really enjoy the problem solving.

    Hi I really enjoy your videos as I have always had an interest in electronics. TV's radio's and vcrs, I recently picked up a Panasonic / National NV-788 from 1983 and with the help of your videos got it working by cleaning and adjusting the mode switch. Im now considering getting a HIFi model NV-850 from 1985 new still in the box never opened. I know this model does have capacitor issues in the power supply. Being new but still almost 40 years old could they go bad when powering it up? Would love hear your thoughts on this

    Instead of "normal" LED's you could try "straw hat" LED's, which have a wider angle (90 to 100 degrees). I use them often replacing incandescent lights.

      Yes they work great. I also sand the surface to add a little diffusion to the light.

    4 & a half minutes in I was just smiling as I recalled how, as kids, we'd be chastised for ratcheting on controls like that... "STOP that, you'll break it!" was the cry... Oh if our parents only knew, we were actually doing them a favour & putting off the day "the man" had to come service the unit haha.

    Grab some led units out of old led lights, the 6 in series type with 18V forward voltage drop, complete with the little MPCB they are on, cut out from the rest, and with 2 wires on it place over the hole. They give off a lot of light, enough to replace the grain of wheat lamp, and the led units are generally free with you having a cheap LED lamp to replace. I also use 1W star units and put them there, running at 50mA, which makes them still very bright, but not run so hot.

    Are the bulbs removable from sockets? They look like automotive dash light bulbs, you might find them at an auto parts store

    What about TV Backlight LED's,Will those work?

  • @BloodAsp
    @BloodAsp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That's a shame those LED's wouldn't bit the job. I wonder if there might be other LED's with appropriate reflectors, or if you can just jam a ton of LED's in there to compensate.

      Or 3 12v incandescent bulbs and be done.

    lol. I buy those crazy glue tubes at Dollarama too...

    • @jp040759
      @jp040759 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I buy the cheap stuff too. I don't use is very often so when I open a tube it goes bad before next use and ends up in the trash wasted.

    Where can one buy a test meter like you have. What’s a good place to buy from.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ESR meter or volt meter? The esr meter I built.

    What was your alternative to krazy glue again please?

    • @SeanBZA
      @SeanBZA 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dollar store superglue, you generally get a strip of 5 or 6 in a pack, and tear off the one you need when you want to use it. While you can replace the cap, they tend to not seal well, so after a month or so of being open they turn to a block of clear resin. But with the tube costing under 20c, you just use the next one. Lasts longer if you put it in the fridge, I have some tubes that are around 10 years old in there, and they still work, though the glue is now very thick, and nearly like paste.

    I have the CR-66. Pretty much the same just missing a couple features. Great sounding unit, not much power. Too bad this one seems to have lost the love.

      They are speaker eaters. Power so low they eat the voice coils.

    • @kyoudaiken
      @kyoudaiken 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@12voltvids So they distort and the speaker coils are mostly on DC (clipping)?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kyoudaiken
      Yup. Fastest way to destroy expensive speakers is a gutless amplifier. Tube amps typically won't blow speakers as the output transformer removed the sharp edges of the clipped waveform. Tubes don't clip and produce square waves. They just get warm and fuzzy.

    • @marka1986

      Id say about 15 to 20 watt with the to220 outputs. Sort of wimpy. Good point about the tube amps.

    If you use leds, sand paper them to scatter the light better.
    Some people treat electronics like crap, sheds are the worse place to store anything :-(
    Hmm a real tuning condenser, don't see many of those now :-(

    • @kyoudaiken
      @kyoudaiken 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are those LEDs where they bored a conical hole in the middle and then polished it. It scatters the light sideways as well. Those are mostly seen on Christmas strings. The Chinese ones are dangerous, but a good cheap source for those LEDs.
