    Danny Kirwan's opener.. Coming Your Way" is killer, and sets the tone for the whole album, and set the stage for Danny to run the show ( songwriting ) for the next 3 LP's through Bare Trees. ✌️

    I might add Laura Nyro’s New York Tendaberry, The Sir Douglas Quintet Mendocino classic Tex Mex garage rock, and The Sons of Champlin Loosen Up Naturally, psych,jazz,rock. Anyway those reflect my taste.

    "Then Play On" by Fleetwood Mac; there are two versions of this LP. It was first released with 3 Danny Kirwan songs that were deleted and then the LP was reissued (within a matter of months) in order to add the song: "Oh Well". Check out the British Pressing. How about "Spooky Two" by Spooky Tooth? The Nice (self-titled)? "Happy Trails" Quicksilver Messenger Service? "Your Saving Grace" Steve Miller Band? The debut LP by Johnny Winter on Columbia?

    Once again Craig you've reviewed some of my favourite albums. Kudos on the Fleetwood Mac album which I've tried repeatedly to buy but unsuccessfully.
    I do however have the Lightfoot'Sunday Concert',Temptations Cloud Nine', Flack's First Take' and Hot Buttered Soul by Isacc Hayes.Sunday Concert and Hot Buttered Soul I believe being the best of the five.
    Be safe and keep up the good work.

      Hey! Glad to be of musical service, @hartleycwhite. You may want to hit Discogs.com for Then Play On. I don't actually have Cloud Nine, but I'll look out for it. Love the Temptations.
      There may be another Then Play On mention in an upcoming video, be warned! Love that record. 😁

    I used to pass on live performance albums. Its true some are duds but hearing groups play live can be a great way to recapture the past. I seldom pass one up now.

    • @vinylrecordplayer
      @vinylrecordplayer  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Right? I used to be the same, but I think some of the live jams they recorded in the '60s and '70s can be superior to the studio versions! Not so much with new records, but it seems like there was much more improvisation then. Cheers! 😁

      This is a gawd-awful LP, which is why they only made one. And "Presence of the Lord" is a turn-off, especially in view of Clapton's actual reputation.

    • @vinylrecordplayer
      @vinylrecordplayer  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it's some of Clapton's rockin'-est work, actually.🤘😁

      @@vinylrecordplayer I'm 75, and grew up with all that. It's a dud. And "Cream's" "Disraeli Gears" hasn't aged well, and "Wheels of Fire" is "amazingly" uneven.
      Want to hear good Clapton? -- find "Eric Clapton & The Powerhouse," with Winwood, intermediate for Clapton between "Yardbirds" and "Cream," and for Winwood on his way to "Traffic".
      Those few tracks were released on Elektra's "What's Shakin'" sampler in 1966, which also includes several "Paul Butterfield Blues Band" from the first -- unreleased -- LP, which was subsequently released on the early-200s (as I recall) on CD. If interested in the latter, I'll climb up on the step-stool to that higher shelf.
      Clapton was BS-described as "God," and white males my age latched onto his imitation Chicago blues, most of them ignoring "Paul Butterfield Blues Band," with Mike Bloomfield, all of whom were actually from Chicago, because there were Blacks in the band. Those Blacks were members of Howlin' Wolf's band.
      At about the same time Elektra released the exquisite first "Lovin' Spoonful" LP "Daydream".

      Always put me to sleep, which reminded me of Tom Rush's moooaaaannnning version of "Urge for Going" -- it went on and on and on and it seemed he never did go, though maybe he did in the very last line of the song. He just repeatedly complained or threatened to go, and I was nt persuaded to ask him to stay, but he never did leave while I was awake.

      @@vinylrecordplayer It's titled "The First Time" (author given as "MacColl") on their 1962 LP "New Frontier". Wikipedia should have a good discography on them.
      Though shunned by Leftist folkies, the "Trio" were excellent -- and as important politically, kept folk music in the public mind during the blacklisting.
