Hello from Peoria AZ (USA)! Loving your channel. Told others to follow. Wanted to say we have a restaurant by us ran by a real Italian chef and every time I eat there I feel like I’m wrapped in warm hugs. It’s only 3 courses but certainly more than I would normally eat and I never feel overly full. It’s the food and the ambiance!

Ciaoooo! Thank you so much. ❤️ It’s so special that your Italian meal feels like a hug. And yes, though you eat several courses you shouldn’t feel too full when the portions are right.

Thank you for a wonderful video! I bought an Italian recipe book by Luca Papagallo, its has recipies sorted by the 5 courses like you are mentioning, but in has no salads. In which category do you consider an Insalata to be? Is it a contorno or an antipasto? For example, orange and fennel salad?
Another question - which of these 5 courses do Italians eat for lunch? In seems that these 5 courses is an Italian dinner. For breakfast I know - it is a coffee and biscutis or cornetto :D
    Thank you

I have super important questions here. I was in Rome and while the food was great, I left confused about this topic in terms of portion sizes. I recall ordering just a secondo at one place and leaving hungry (not having enough money for anything else). At another place, the primo was so big I couldn't imagine having a secondo. So, how do I know how much to order? Also, is it acceptable to order a full-course Italian meal and share it with another person? Or, what about eating solo? I came across a situation where the antipasto was bigger than the primo (I assume the antipasto is meant to be shared). So, do I assume it's too big for a single person or are there restaurants for individuals?

So many great questions. The size of the portions depend on the type of restaurant … the more rustic the restaurant, the bigger the portions; the fancier, the smaller they are. Antipasto is generally placed at the center of the table and is shared. If you want to share a meal, you can each order a course and then you swap your primo, secondo, and contorno. Or for a primo you can ask for a mezza porzione (half a portion) but the price is usually more than the half of the full price so I don’t always recommend this. 😊
