Sydney Band, The Kites Live at the Woollahra Hotel 30.3.14 Mark Kennedy - Keys. Peter O'Regan - Lead Vocal. Jack Evans - Guitar. Guy Saminaden - Bass. Paul Kneipp - Drums
The people in that bar are just drinking, chatting and seem almost unaware of how truly excellent this is. The band is so good, they make it seem effortless. Very very few people can cover Steely Dan songs as convincingly as this.
Nice work as always, Kites! Wonderful arrangement and tight, tight rendition -- pro players. It's just odd (to me) that during the tune we don't hear conversation, glasses clinking, the normal din of a bar serving this number of people -- and per the above, people are clearly chatting, drinking, moving around, etc. So, how did you manage that we don't hear the hub-bub in the background? Not complaining, just interested. Thanks.
I started to see this video and I was like : "Hey, where are the backup singers??? Where is the brass section?? Ah this is not gonna be a good cover". Man I could not be more wrong, that was a really excellent execution. And I liked it so much!!
Great work guys. One of my SD favourites. Love to hear you do 'Doctor Wu'. Remember your band from the Grand National in Paddo, back in the late 70s/80s. Still a great show.
Hi Jonathon, our bass player Guy recorded that using a Yamaha HD recorder. He mastered it in ProTools. The microphones are the average SM58's, Audio Technica drum mics; DI from the bass; Sennheiser e609 on guitar. Guy is old school so not a lot of plugins just clean capture. Thanks!

Clean indeed! thanks!
Guy can you tell us a bit about your bass ? It look like it has a Telecaster neck and a kinda Jazz / Precision body. Intrigued>
Thanks for your comment Paul. It is indeed a Telecaster neck (1954) with EMG pickups on a Precision body.
